In the pantheon of Erotic Thrillers, Body of Evidence is an odd one. It falls into the even more niche sub-category of courtroom thrillers, which spend as much time on the naughty bits as they do with witnesses on the stand or in depositions (see also: Disclosure).
Enter Body of Evidence. In the film, femme fatale Rebecca Carlson (Madonna) is arrested and charged with murder when her older, wealthy boyfriend John Marsh (Michael Forest) is found dead. Turns out the pair had quite the risqué sex life (or at least as risqué as mainstream Hollywood fare was willing to address in 1993): they were having non-missionary sex that involved some light bondage (ie: restraints such as belts and handcuffs).
District Attorney Robert Garrett (Joe Mantegna) makes it clear to the jury in his opening remarks that Rebecca’s body is the murder weapon. She induced Marsh’s fatal heart attack...

The dividing line between a film being an homage and a rip-off is sorely tested with "Forsaken", a 2015 Canadian Western by director Jon Cassar, who is best known for his acclaimed, award-winning work in television. This is a rare venture into feature film making for him and the result left me with decidedly mixed emotions. The film marks another collaboration between Cassar and actor Kiefer Sutherland, who starred in Cassar's wildly successful TV series "24". That the two men are comfortable with each other's style is immediately apparent from the first frames of the film. We want to extend kudos to them for bravely venturing where few in the movie industry dare to tread any longer: the realm of the Western, a genre that has been routinely neglected for decades. Despite the success of Westerns such as "Unforgiven", "Dances With Wolves" and "Open Range", studio chiefs can't seem...

Going into Forsaken with the intent to enjoy yourself is quite easy: with likable real-life father/son pair Kiefer Sutherland and Donald Sutherland playing on-screen family, all set amidst the backdrop of a post-Civil War small western town, the potential for an emotionally-fueled slice of western escapism is palpable. And it should go without saying that the familial chemistry shared between the two leads is Forsaken‘s biggest draw.
They’re easy to watch, the setting is lush (while occasionally incongruous in a studio backlot kind-of-way), and Kiefer has the angsty gunslinger bit nailed down, but Forsaken‘s mind-numbing story derails the movie of all momentum. Its bad guys are bland (save one), its moralistic preachiness is off-putting, and its unadorned direction repeatedly robs potentially captivating scenes of any emotional relevance.
The Sutherlands occasionally manage to cut through that, but it’s far too rare. Here Sutherland the Senior plays William Clayton,...

The western movie streak continues! There have been a lot of good westerns recently that include The Hateful Eight, Bone Tomahawk, and Slow West, and Jane Got a Gun is coming up. We’ve got another one on the way called Forsaken, and it stars father and son duo Kiefer and Donald Sutherland. I’ve gotta say, it’s pretty cool to see the Sutherlands starring in a movie together like this. It looks like it will be a decent film worth checking out, especially if you’re into westerns.
In 1872, John Henry Clayton (Kiefer Sutherland) retires as a gunfighter and returns to his hometown of Fowler, Wyoming in hope of repairing his relationship with his estranged father, Reverend Clayton (Donald Sutherland). However, he soon learns that the town is in turmoil, as the railroad will be coming through the area and a criminal gang is terrorizing ranchers who refuse to sell their land.

Just when you thought you’d seen every possible variation of men seeking redemption while dealing with their parental issues, along comes Forsaken – starring Kiefer Sutherland, and his legendary father, Donald. Directed by Jon Cassar (24), and written by Brad Mirman (Highlander: The Final Dimension), the western is clearly aimed at those that would like the thrill of watching father and son engage in impassioned yelling over past misdeeds.

Kiefer Sutherland got wild and crazy at a bar in Calgary where he is shooting Brad Mirman's western "Forsaken," a film that has also gone by the title "Redemption."
Mirman and Kiefer's co-star Demi Moore were on hand as Sutherland did shots with fans, posed for pictures, and spontaneously went topless while getting down on the dance floor.
"He was stumbling, he took his shirt off, he was dancing," an eye witness, Carlos Bulk, tells the Calgary Sun. "It was a funny experience." Sutherland was still going strong when Bulk arrived at the Bear & Kilt Freehouse at 1:30 a.m.
"He was giving everyone the time of day, it was cool," another fan reports of Sutherland. "He was very open to talking to people."
After "Forsaken," Sutherland will return to his Jack Bauer roots, reuniting with Mary Lynn Rajskub for Fox's "24: Live Another Day."...

Jack Bauer would never.
According to Canadian news outlet the Calgary Sun, "Redemption" co-stars Kiefer Sutherland and Demi Moore were spotted enjoying a night on the town with the movie's screenwriter, Brad Mirman, and one other person in Calgary over the weekend.
As the evening progressed, Moore reportedly called it a night, and Sutherland let loose. "He was stumbling, he took his shirt off, he was dancing," an eyewitness told the Sun. "It was a funny experience."
Sutherland and Moore are north of the border filming their 2014 western "Redemption," in which Sutherland stars as a quick-draw killer who returns home to repair his relationship with his estranged father, played by none other than the actor's real-life pops, Donald Sutherland.
The younger Sutherland is also set to reprise his iconic "24" role in "24: Live Another Day," a 12-week limited series slated to premiere on Fox next May.

Foster — who’s produced titles that include Man on Fire, Law Abiding Citizen, and Mr. and Mrs. Smith — will produce the thriller, based on Brad Mirman‘s original script. I have no doubt that Mel Gibson will put his foot in his mouth again in the future and say something ridiculously inappropriate. But until that snafu comes, it appears starring in The Beaver is only the beginning of Gibson's second chance in Tinsel Town.

Mel Gibson’s career isn’t quite dead yet, Mel Gibson haters. The actor is in negotiations to join the comedy/heist flick “Sleight of Hand”, which would team him up with “24′s” Kiefer Sutherland, French guy Gerard Depardieu and former “Punisher” Thomas Jane. Brad Mirman is set to direct the film, about “a bunch of bungling burglars in Paris who inadvertently steal a rare gold coin belonging to a gangster.” Giancarlo Giannini, Jon Lovitz and Johnny Hallyday (last seen in Johnnie To’s “Vengeance”) are also in the cast. The Beaver may not have been quite the comeback that Mel Gibson wanted, but it was probably the comeback that he deserved. Still, signs point to the fact that the film's relative under-performance is due less to disdain for the actor and more towards a general sense of disinterest and lack of awareness about the film. For real comeback action Mel Gibson will probably have to work in a genre that has more potential for audience impact. How about some form of buddy comedy -- that being the format that defined one stage of his career thanks to the Lethal Weapon films? Indeed, he is now in talks to join the buddy heist comedy Sleight of Hand, which has Kiefer Sutherland, Gerard Depardieu and Thomas Jane set for smaller roles. The past few years haven't been kind to "Lethal Weapon" star and "Passion of the Christ" director Mel Gibson. Or, rather, he hasn't been so kind to them.
Either way, Gibson isn't letting personal problems or his public persona stand in the way of an acting career. He's garnered high praise for his latest film "The Beaver," which recently debuted in American theaters, and now he's riding the wave, already honing in on his next project: the heist comedy, "Sleight of Hand."
The crime flick will star Gibson alongside Kiefer Sutherland (who is racking up projects at Cannes like nobody's business), famed French actor Gerard Depardieu, Thomas Jane (HBO's "Hung") and "Saturday Night Live" alum Jon Lovitz. The movie revolves around a group of burglars in Paris who accidently steal a rare coin belonging to a local gangster. Hijinks inevitably ensue.

The former A-lister.s tabloid-fueling outbursts have turned him into persona non grata in the States -- his latest picture, Jodie Foster.s The Beaver, was aggressively ignored by American moviegoers, earning only $330,796 since opening in limited release on May 6. But Gibson and the film received a warm greeting...

After his early 2010 debacle, Mel Gibson is slowly getting back into the spotlight. His latest film, The Beaver, did poorly in limited release here in the Us, but received a standing ovation at Cannes. Jodie Foster blames its failure on American sensibilities. What I saw had the sensibilities of a Lifetime movie, but that is besides the point. Gibson seems to be back on his feet, at least in the sense of picking new films. He already has the action drama How I Spent My Summer Vacation in the can, but he has now found his first post-incident film to star in.
Variety reports he has joined the cast of Brad Mirman‘s heist comedy Sleight of Hand, which already has Kiefer Sutherland, Gerard Depardieu, Giancarlo Giannini, Jon Lovitz, Johnny Hallyday, and Thomas Jane signed to star. Can Mel Gibson turn his fortunes around? It’s a question that’s still mostly searching for an answer, especially since his latest film, The Beaver, got a decent reception at Cannes but has largely flopped in the Us. And after all the hullabaloo about his cancelled cameo in the Hangover sequel, now it seems he’s looking at another new role, entering talks to join the cast of heist comedy Sleight of Hand. The first batch of casting for the movie was just announced last week, with Keifer Sutherland, Gerard Depardieu, Til Schweiger, Thomas Jane, Eric Cantona, Johnny Hallyday and Jon Lovitz all reportedly aboard for a comedy about bungling Parisian burglars who inadvertently make off with a rare coin belonging to a gangster. While Gibson isn’t officially confirmed yet, Casino Royale/Quantum of Solace’s Giancarlo Giannini is locked in. Brad Mirman is calling the shots for the film,...

You know that Kiefer Sutherland web series? The one that debuted on Hulu where the former CTU agent plays a God-fearing, Roman Catholic, repentant hit man alongside John Hurt, Michael Badalucco, and Sebastian Becaon? The one that’s directed by Brad Mirman and distributed by Digital Broadcasting Group? The one that’s called The Confession? Yeah, that one! It’s being turned into a movie. Dave McNary at Variety reports Image Entertainment made a non-live streamed announcement at Cannes that the “integrated home entertainment company” is in final negotiations to obtain the rights to title. Image plans to reformat the online original into a feature-length film, for which it will own the “home entertainment and digital rights.” If and when the film gets made, The Confession will be one of a very select group of original web series to make the jump from the computer to silver screens. Fred, a...

She’s looking at taking up a role in The Bourne Legacy which already has Jeremy Renner set to star. In this film, she’d play “an operative from a covert government program that is even more dangerous than the Treadstone brainwashing program that hatched Bourne.” [Deadline]

Kiefer Sutherland, the legendary Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning actor, is set to star in upcoming heist comedy, Sleight of Hand, Variety reports.
The film will start production this summer, and is set to be sold at Cannes this month.
Director Brad Mirman is will be taking the helm, and Sutherland has recently been working with him on a ten-part web series, The Confession, in which Sutherland stars as a hitman opposite John Hurt’s priest in a confessional, each episode about five to ten minutes long. Whilst I’m yet to see the series, the premise certainly has me intrigued, and a mental note has been made to see what Mirman’s writing and directing skills are like.
Sleight of Hand has also pulled a number of other big names, with the ensemble internationally cast, including Gérard Depardieu (Mesrine), Thomas Jane (TV’s Hung), Til Schweiger (Inglourious Basterds), comedian...

[1] We reported a few months ago that James Franco had optioned Michael Gregg Michaud's biography of Rebel Without a Cause star Sal Mineo, with the intention of writing and directing (but not acting in) a biopic about the actor. Now it looks like he's found his star. Val Lauren has been cast as the lead in the film, which is currently going by the title Sal. Michaud's book Sal Mineo: A Biography deals with Mineo's rise to fame, his conflicted sexuality, and his tragic murder at the age of 37. Lauren expressed his excitement about the role to The Hollywood Reporter: Sal Mineo himself was an extraordinary and super complex guy... People know him for Rebel Without a Cause, but he was technically the first actor who came out of the closet. He was very brave. Lauren's past credits include Dallas 362, The Salton Sea, and the short film Help,...

The only project Kiefer Sutherland fans want to hear the actor attached to needs to have 24 in the title. Unfortunately for them, news out of Cannes could put super-agent Jack Bauer.s planned feature-length adventure on hold for a little while longer. Sutherland, instead, will join the cast of Brad Mirman.s heist picture Sleight of Hand, according to Deadline. Gerard Depardieu, Til Schweiger, Thomas Jane, Johnny Hallyday, Jon Lovitz and Eric Cantona already have been cast in the film, which plans to shoot this summer in Paris. Mirman and Sutherland collaborated on the Hulu-based television series The Confession, which also starred John Hurt, but it will be interesting to see what they can do with a larger budget in an international setting. As for the rumored 24 film, there hasn.t been much to report as of late. Scripts have been traded back and forth, and Sutherland stated a while...

France's Cannes Film Festival has officially begun, and that means glamour, big premieres, gorgeous women in bikinis on yachts, and producers negotiating deals for oddball movies on said yachts.
One such cult-y sounding flick trying to come to life at the festival is a just-announced action-comedy starring none other than TV's Jack Bauer, Kiefer Sutherland.
According to THR Sutherland will headline "Sleight of Hand," a caper film "which centers on a crew of small-time crooks in Paris who inadvertently end up possessing a rare gold coin belonging to a notorious French gangster."
If that doesn't sound wacky enough, wait 'til you meet the rest of the cast:
Gérard Depardieu ("Cyrano de Bergerac"), Til Schweiger (Sgt. Hugo Stiglitz in "Inglourious Basterds"), Thomas Jane ("The Punisher," "Hung"), Johnny Hallyday (the Elvis Presley of France!), Eric Cantona (Manchester United football star!), and Jon Lovitz (Jon Freakin' Lovitz! "Yeah! That's the ticket!").

The film is slated for a August 3, 2012 release under the direction of Tony Gilroy (Michael Clayton).
Weisz is also in talks to star in Oz: The Great And Powerful for Sam Raimi at Disney and there is no word yet on whether she can film both.
New casting for The Hunger Games squashes earlier rumors that John C. Reilly would play Haymitch, the only District 12 tribute to ever survive the Hunger Games, as The Hollywood Reporter announces Woody Harrelson has secured the role.

I am sure fans would rather hear news of a 24 film, but any film starring Sutherland is good news as far as I am concerned. I like seeing Sutherland on the big screen and the cast is definitely unique for this heist film.

Kiefer Sutherland's next series debuts in just a few days -- just not on traditional television.
Sutherland is the star and an executive producer of "The Confession," a web series that debuts Monday, March 28 on Hulu. He plays a hitman who's making a confession to a priest (John Hurt), which is interspersed with flashbacks to some of the bad deeds his character has done.
In the latest behind-the-scenes featurette from the show (which you can see only on Zap2it), Sutherland talks about the freedom and the challenges of trying to tell stories in five- to seven-minute episodes. ("The Confession" will run for 10 episodes.)
"What's exciting to me, and also frustrating, about doing something on the Internet, is you're truly limited [only] by your own imagination," he says. "And you don't have to pay for a thing. You just log on and watch it."
