Award-winning documentary Rondo and Bob, fixing on Texas Chain Saw Massacre art director Robert Burns and his obsession with cult actor Rondo Hatton, will be released on streaming platforms this June. Check out this trailer:
Robert A. “Bob” Burns is a significant name in horror film art direction for his work in the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre, The Hills Have Eyes, Re-Animator, The Howling. His props also appear in Poltergeist. From a young age he showed signs of being a genius and could create complex designs all in his head, draw detailed cartoons and create outrageous puns. In high school and college he studied drama, which he later utilized in films including Confessions of a Serial Killer.
While attending the University of Texas he edited the Texas Ranger humor magazine and discovered Rondo Hatton, a former Tampa, Florida, sports reporter, who contracted acromegaly, a condition that caused his face,...

It's been 20 years since the release of Legally Blonde, and we're still learning how the pretty much perfect cast came together. In a July 8 oral history of the film by The New York Times, casting director Joseph Middleton and screenwriter Karen McCullah discussed the different actors that were almost cast in the now-iconic roles; including WandaVision's Paul Bettany. "I loved Paul Bettany for the Luke [Wilson] role, but he was British, and they felt like it needed to be a real American," Middleton said of the Marvel star.
Even though Bettany was considered for the role, it seems that Luke Wilson was always destined to be Emmett. "We always called [the love interest Emmett] 'the Luke Wilson character' while we were writing it," McCullah added. "They saw some other actors, and finally Joseph was like, 'Maybe we should get Luke to play the Luke Wilson character.' I was like, 'You think?'" And the rest is history.

In the wake of the departure of Paramount Pictures and Paramount Television Evp of Casting Joseph Middleton back in January, the studio has split his job into two, just as Deadline heard, and hired Deborah Aquila and Tricia Wood as EVPs of Casting. Aquila will run point on TV reporting to Paramount President of Television Nicole Clemens, while Wood will oversee film, reporting into Wyck Godfrey, Paramount Motion Pictures Group President.
Aquila and Wood previously had their own firm, Aquila Wood Casting, on behalf of Lionsgate. Aquila recently cast Paramount/Skydance’s Chris Pratt sci-fi movie The Tomorrow War which is currently in post, and she also cast Lionsgate hits, the multi-Oscar winning Lala Land and Wonder. Wood came up under Aquila. The two count over 150 credits on film and TV pilots.
Here is the memo from Clemens and Godfrey about the announcement today:

Exclusive: Joseph Middleton, Evp Casting for Paramount Pictures & Paramount Television, has left the studio after nine years. I hear he departed last month when his contract was up. No replacement has been named yet.
Middleton was a well known feature casting director when he was brought in as head of casting for Paramount Pictures at the start of 2011. He later added Paramount’s TV division, Paramount Television, to his oversight when it was launched in 2013. With the TV operation’s output growing steadily over the past six years, I hear there is a possibility for Paramount to name separate heads of casting for film and TV following Middleton’s exit, though no final decision has been made yet.
As an independent casting director before joining Paramount, Middleton worked on such films as The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, The Twilight Saga: New Moon, Fair Game, Immortals,...

The Academy has announced the new class of invited members for 2014 and, as is typical, many of which are among last year's nominees, which includes Barkhad Abdi, Michael Fassbender, Sally Hawkins, Mads Mikkelsen, Lupita Nyong'o and June Squibb in the Actors branch not to mention curious additions such as Josh Hutcherson, Rob Riggle and Jason Statham, but, okay. The Directors branch adds Jay and Mark Duplass along with Jean-Marc Vallee, Denis Villeneuve and Thomas Vinterberg. I didn't do an immediate tally of male to female additions or other demographics, but at first glance it seems to be a wide spread batch of new additions on all fronts. The Academy is also clearly attempting to aggressively bump up the demographics as this is the second year in a row where they have added a large number of new members, well over the average of 133 new members from 2004 to 2012. As far as...

Michael Fassbender and Lupita Nyong’o of 12 Years a Slave were two of the 271 artists and industry leaders invited to become members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which determines nominations and winners at the annual Oscars. The entire list of Academy membership—which numbers about 6,000—isn’t public information so the annual invitation list is often the best indication of the artists involved in the prestigious awards process. It’s worth noting that invitations need to be accepted in order for artists to become members; some artists, like two-time Best Actor winner Sean Penn, have declined membership over the years.

Pop quiz: What do Chris Rock, Claire Denis, Eddie Vedder and Josh Hutcherson all have in common? Answer: They could all be Oscar voters very soon. The annual Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences invitation list always makes for interesting reading, shedding light on just how large and far-reaching the group's membership is -- or could be, depending on who accepts their invitations. This year, 271 individuals have been asked to join AMPAS, meaning every one of them could contribute to next year's Academy Awards balloting -- and it's as diverse a list as they've ever assembled. Think the Academy consists entirely of fusty retired white dudes? Not if recent Best Original Song nominee Pharrell Williams takes them up on their offer. Think it's all just a Hollywood insiders' game? Not if French arthouse titans Chantal Akerman and Olivier Assayas join the party. It's a list that subverts expectation at every turn.

Exclusive: Teri Taylor, who was installed as Paramount's head of casting when Adam Goodman took the top production job, will be leaving that post at the end of her contract. Joseph Middleton, a well established casting director who has worked with Goodman on projects from Old School to Little Fockers, will be taking over the top post as of next week, I'm told. Taylor will become an independent agent, but will not be going away empty handed. She will be assigned the job of casting Paranormal Activity 3, which is currently being put together for an October release. Casting is getting underway on that film even though the studio hasn't yet set a director. Taylor, who under her post cast Paranormal Activity 2, will likely be assigned other films, insiders said. Middleton has worked on such films as The Bourne Identity and The Bourne Supremacy franchise, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Twilight Saga: New Moon and Fair Game.

Crime dramas, conspiracy thrillers, and down-home narratives about youthful angst will be among the new shows entering our homes this fall TV season. In addition to solving murders, the characters are advocates for the victims, giving peace and closure to their survivors. The rumor has been made official. Michael Fassbender is on board to star as Erik Lensherr aka Magneto in "X-Men: First Class". The actor, who had been reported being offered the lead role in the film, entered talks with 20th Century Fox two weeks ago and now the deal is done, The Hollywood Reporter states.

Fango recently got a chance to speak with actresses Shana Collins and Shannon Woodward about their roles in the new teen fright flick The Haunting Of Molly Hartley, hitting screens today from Freestyle Releasing. Concerning itself with the titular cursed high-schooler, the film aims to pack some PG-13 chills, allowing young horror fans to get their celebratory scares in this Halloween. Collins and Woodward play friends of Molly’s with opposing spiritual viewpoints: The former is the devout Alexis (pictured with Haley Bennett as Molly) and the latter portrays the rebellious Leah.
Having arrived on the acting scene four years ago, Collins is already building a substantial fright résumé, with a bit part in Steven Spielberg’s War Of The Worlds and supporting roles in Raw Feed’s Sublime and the haunted-prison flick Death Row. She was poised for Haunting to be her jump to leading-lady status, but it didn’t work out that way.
