On October 26, 1997, Tower of Terror aired as ABC’s The Wonderful World of Disney feature presentation, initiating a trend that would go on to shift the paradigm that had long existed between Disney’s immersive theme park attractions and their successful movie slate. The line between rides and movies was blurring and soon the path that carried the silver screen to the realm of reality would no longer be one-way.
Twenty six years later, the studio is on the cusp of their twelfth ride adaptation and their second big screen attempt at a blockbuster Haunted Mansion movie. Far removed from the made-for-tv Steve Guttenberg starring spook fest that served as a gateway horror flick to so many young and impressionable minds, these multimedia ticket drivers have left behind low budget simplicity in lieu of multi-million dollar CGI driven set pieces and A-list casts. Still, with its on-ride filming sites, colorful...

Some of my favorite episodes of TV in recent years have come from the previous two installments of Nickelodeon's Are You Afraid of the Dark? revival, Carnival of Doom and Curse of the Shadows, so I can't wait to see what spooky surprises are in store for Midnight Society members both old and new in the latest season, Ghost Island. Ahead of its July 30th premiere on Nickelodeon, we have a look at the new trailer featuring an eerie hotel with one room in particular that guests should avoid staying in:
From the Press Release: Produced by Ace Entertainment, the limited series will debut with a two-hour episode on Saturday, July 30, at 7 p.m. (Et/Pt) on Nickelodeon, with the remaining episodes airing Saturday, Aug. 6, and Aug. 13, at 7 p.m. (Et/Pt). In the last half decade, D.J. MacHale has noticed a significant uptick in interest in Are You Afraid of the Dark?, the Nickelodeon anthology series he co-created nearly 30 years ago. Though he spent much of his career as a television writer, director, and producer, he’s had a successful second act as an author of sci-fi, fantasy, and supernatural novels. When fans of his novels put it together that he also produced all 91 episodes of the original run of the Nickelodeon classic, he started receiving an outpour of appreciation.
“Suddenly this wave of social media came to me about Are You Afraid of the Dark?,” MacHale told Den of Geek. “There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t speak to someone in some way, shape or form about [the show].”
Are You Afraid of the Dark? premiered on Nickelodeon on Oct. 25, 1991. Each episode started with a member of “The Midnight Society,...

Paramount is in talks with “xXx: The Return of Xander Cage” director D.J. Caruso to take the reins of its movie adaptation of the Nickelodeon horror series “Are You Afraid of the Dark?”
The project was unveiled last year with “It” writer Gary Dauberman hired to write the script. Matt Kaplan is producing along with Dauberman, who’s a co-writer on both “It” movies, and “The Conjuring” and “Annabelle” franchises.
“Are You Afraid of the Dark?” was created by D.J. MacHale and Ned Kandel and ran as an anthology series on Nickelodeon between 1992 and 1996. It followed a group of teenagers who called themselves the Midnight Society and would meet weekly at a secret location in the woods to tell a scary story. The show was revived in 1999 for two more seasons.
Each episode was introduced with the storyteller saying “Submitted for the approval of the Midnight Society,” who then would...

The more things change, the more they stay the same. Disney's penchant for turning theme park rides into movies didn't start with "Pirates Of The Caribbean" (though, that is when they began spending insane piles of money on such fare). Back in 1997, they made their first real attempt with the made-for-tv "Tower Of Terror" starring Steve Guttenberg and Kristen Dunst. Someone named D.J. MacHale wrote and directed the movie and didn't do much after, and the movie itself hasn't really lived on either. But the Mouse House will start over. There's no word yet on what the actual plot might entail, except that it...

The show was a series produced in Canada by D.J. MacHale and Ned Kandel. Nickelodeon picked it up in the early '90s and brought it to the U.S. Now, because this was a series presented to a generation of horror fans before my time, I'll refer to the Wikipedia description of the show. But, before I do, I wanted to give you the heads-up that The Cinefamily in Los Angeles (if you happen to live in the area) is doing an Are You Afraid of the Dark? tribute on October 23rd.

Welcome to the Ya Movie Countdown, our resident expert’s continuing guide to young adult book-to-film adaptations. Comic-Con International has released the full schedule for Sunday July 24th for San Diego Comic-Con 2011. This is the final day of the convention. Sunday is known as Kids day and is usually the slowest of all the days, there are a few surprises though. In all my years of going to Comic-Con I've never been to a panel in Hal H. Usually nothing is happening in Hall H on Sunday, this year there are a few TV programs going on in Hall H such a as Glee, Supernatural, Doctor Who, The Cleveland Show, Sons of Anarchy, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and this year Buffy the Musical will be in the great Hall as well. I've never been to the Buffy Musical event, and I think I finally want to go this year. A couple of other things worth noting are a one on one panel with Nathan Fillion, and Max Brooks talks about zombies.
