When the music documentary Scott Walker: 30 Century Man made its North American premiere in Austin in 2007, I interviewed its out filmmaker Stephen Kijak (Cinemania). As a full-fledged proselytizing Scott Walker freak, I would have liked the fact that Stephen has the gay to be enough to get our readers to give it a click, but let's get real. The audience for documentary films about obscure ex-pat musical geniuses is neither large nor disproportionately well-represented on our site.
I found a way to get around that little problem when the publicist for the film sent out a note that one of its associate producers was also available for press events in Austin: actor and AfterElton.com hot 100 listee Gale Harold (Queer as Folk, Desperate Housewives). I interviewed him; the article did well, so my editor was happy; I got to write about one of my musical obsessions, so I was,...

Sir Elton John and long-term love David Furnish married in a civil partnership ceremony in Windsor, England, yesterday morning. The legendary rocker, 58, and Canadian film-maker, 43, wed under a new British law, which came into effect today, giving official recognition of same sex relationships and the same employment, pension and inheritance rights as married couples. The couple, dressed in black suits, arrived together and waved to fans and well-wishers before entering Windsor's 17th century Guildhall for the 45-minute ceremony. The small service was attended by John's mother and stepfather Sheila and Fred Farebrother, Furnish's parents Gladys and Jack, and a small selection of friends, including the artist Sam Taylor-Wood, who organized the couple's pre-wedding bash on Monday night. The 'newlyweds' left Guildhall at 11:45am and were congratulated by the glare of paparazzi cameras and confetti, before returning to their saloon car for the short drive to their mansion. An ecstatic John said the ceremony was "great, thanks." John and Furnish started dating after meeting at one of the singer's dinner parties in October 1993. Before coming out as a homosexual, John was previously married to sound engineer Renate Blauel, but they divorced in 1987. Later today, Donatella Versace, George Michael, Elizabeth Hurley, Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne, Victoria Beckham, Lulu and Cilla Black will join the happy couple at a star-studded reception at their country home.

British comedy duo Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders were horrified when they accidentally injured '60s singer Lulu in their new TV series. The funnywomen pretended to 'shoot' the Scottish hitmaker in a spoof of Quentin Tarantino's classic film Pulp Fiction. Lulu explains, "It all went slightly wrong in rehearsal. I was bleeding and had to go to hospital and have stitches. I still have the scars." Embarrassed French and Saunders sent the ex-wife of Bee Gee Maurice Gibb a gift to apologize. Lulu says, "It was a piece of silver jewelry with the words, 'We shot Lulu' engraved on the front and 'sorry' on the back."...

Bee Gee Barry Gibb is so traumatized by the death of his bandmate brother Maurice Gibb, he stayed away from yesterday's funeral. The singer instead waited until all the guests had left the service in Florida, before slipping in a side entrance with pal Michael Jackson - so the pair could pay their respects in private. Maurice died of a heart attack in hospital in Miami on Sunday after undergoing surgery to correct an intestinal blockage. A friend of the family says, "Barry was too upset to face it. He's having trouble coping." Maurice's first wife, Scottish singer Lulu also missed the funeral, but a host of showbiz pals did show up to pay tribute to the 53-year-old star - including Eric Clapton, Henry Winkler and songwriter Randy Newman. During the service Maurice's brother Robin said of his sibling, "He was a guy who was really, really loved - unusually loved."...

Maurice Gibb, one of the three brothers who formed the Bee Gees in the 1960s, has died in hospital after collapsing at his Florida home on Thursday. The 53-year-old "Staying Alive" hitmaker, who was once married to '60s British pop singer Lulu, had been in a critical condition following an operation to remove an intestinal blockage. His wife Yvonne and two children were by his side at the Mount Sinai Medical Centre in Miami. His family has released a statement Sunday which says, "It is with great sadness and sorrow that we regretfully announce the passing of Maurice Gibb this morning. His love and enthusiasm and energy for life remain an inspiration to all of us. We will all deeply miss him." Yesterday Maurice's family and fans were hopeful that the singer was showing signs of recovery, but the family's statement reveals he died at 1am. As part of the Bee Gees with twin brother Robin and elder brother Barry, Maurice started his singing career in the 1950s when the trio was originally known as the Brothers Gibb. As the Bee Gees, the 1977 film Saturday Night Fever brought them their biggest hits including "How Deep Is Your Love" and "Night Fever."...
