The first live-action film adapted from the comic book “Teddy Boy” and written by Man Kai Ming, “Young and Dangerous” was a huge success and incredibly, within a few short months, its sequel hit the big screens. Again it became a massive hit which continued to generate more sequels and spin-offs.

By intercutting a series of flashbacks into the opening credits, director Lau is able to make his storyline flow smoothly and thus keeping his audiences up to date. Also by morphing the film's freeze frame image into the original comic, he ties in the storyline smoothly. What follows next also works as a prequel detailing Hung Hing society's “Chicken” Chiu's exile in Taiwan and how he becomes a branch triad leader of the local San Luen society.

Winner of the 1999 Golden Horse Award for Best Visual Effects, Andrew Lau's “A Man Called Hero” is a genuine wuxia film, which doubles intensely though, as a drama, in a rather appealing package that also benefits the most by the impressive cast. The movie would be a huge commercial success, amassing more than 23 million Hk dollars upon its release.

The script is loosely based on the manhua series Chinese Hero: Tales of the Blood Sword by Hong Kong artist Ma Wing-shing and begins in early Republican China. After passing a test, Hero Hua is accepted by Pride, a master swordsman, as his second apprentice. When he returns home, he is horrified to see that his parents have been murdered by foreigners for opposing the opium trade. That night, Hero breaks up the foreigners' party and kills them in revenge.

There is a thrilling selection of Chinese-language titles at Filmart this year. Liz Shackleton picks out some of the most promising.
With very few Hong Kong or mainland Chinese sellers making the journey to this year’s European Film Market in Berlin, Filmart offers a chance for buyers to catch up with the Chinese-language titles that will be rolled out in the region for the rest of the year.
After serving up the biggest film of the Chinese New Year holiday — Kung Fu Yoga, starring Jackie Chan and directed by Stanley Tong — China’s Sparkle Roll Media has launched a Hong Kong-based sales arm that is selling Ding Sheng’s reboot of the A Better Tomorrow series.
Other high-profile action titles new to market include Distribution Workshop’s Extraordinary Mission, from the creative teams behind the Infernal Affairs and Overheard series, and Huayi Brothers’ crime drama Explosion, starring Duan Yihong.

Based on the long running and highly successful Namco video game franchise of the same name, Tekken is an action packed thriller written for the screen by Alan McElroy (Spawn, The Marine) and directed by Dwight Little (Anacondas, Murder at 1600) with fight choreography by Dion Lam (Spider-Man 2, Doom, Red Cliff). and Cyril Raffaelli (District 13 – Ultimatum).
Set in 2039, the film promises non-stop high flying action as the greatest fighters from around the world come to compete in the last and greatest sporting event of all time, the Fist Tournament. After World Wars destroy much of civilization as we know it, the remaining territories are no longer run by governments, but by corporations the mightiest of which is Tekken. In order to keep the masses down, Tekken sponsors the Iron Fist Tournament in which fighters compete to the death for ultimate glory and receive a lifetime of stardom and wealth.

Cbm has your first look at the International poster for the upcoming “Tekken” movie, which seems to have been floating around the clouds forever. Here’s the sales copy, which comes complete with gratuitous promises of how “Tekken” is in line to be one of “the greatest action films of all time”. Yeah, but can it beat the greatness of “Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li”? Cause, you know, that’s pretty hard to top, that one. Based on the long running and highly successful Namco video game franchise of the same name, Tekken is a high-octane, action packed thriller written for the screen by Alan McElroy (Spawn, The Marine), directed by Dwight Little (Anacondas, Murder at 1600) with fight choreography by Dion Lam (Spider-Man 2, Doom, Red Cliff). A new poster, mostly in Japanese, for Dwight H. Little's (Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid) Tekken adaptation has appeared on the movie's official site. Based on the popular Namco video game franchise of the same name, Tekken was written for the screen by Alan McElroy (The Marine) and features fight choreography by Dion Lam (Spider-Man 2).
In the movie's post-apocalyptic, near-future world, corporations are in control of the few remaining population centers. One of the most powerful corporations, Tekken, sponsors the Iron Fist Tournament as a way of appeasing and controlling the populace. Jin Kazama (played by Jon Foo), a noble street fighter, enters the Iron Fist Tournament so that he can get close to the chairman of the Tekken corporation, Heihachi Mishima (Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa), who he blames for the death of his mother.
Next Showing: Tekken is slated for a 2010 release

As of late, there hasn't been any word yet on the distribution plans for the live action adaptation of the popular fighting video game Tekken in North America. Meanwhile in Japan, the marketing campaign has started to set in motion with the arrival of the teaser poster at the Japanese official site featuring Wushu martial artist Jon Foo (Tom-Yum-Goong) as Jin Kazama on the front.
