Exclusive: Mrs Wilson producer Snowed-In Productions has hired Victoria Fea, the former ITV commissioner who co-founded Longboat Pictures.
Fea joins Snowed-In as an executive producer in June, reporting to CEO Ruth Kenley-Letts. Her appointment follows the departure of Jenny van der Lande to Big Talk Studios.
Snowed-In is behind projects including Itvx’s upcoming Sophie Turner series Joan and Mrs Wilson, the BBC’s Ruth Wilson drama. It also made The Midwich Cuckoos for Sky.
Fea said Snowed-In had a reputation for “classy” television, while Kenley-Letts paid tribute to van der Lande’s tenure at the company.
Longboat Changes
Fea’s exit from Longboat follows an ownership change at the production company she co-founded in 2019 with Julie Anne Robinson, a director who has worked on Doctor Who and Bridgerton.
Sky exited Longboat last year after taking a 25% stake in the company in 2020. Longboat is now wholly owned by The Story Collective,...

Best Actress has come down to the two-horse race we always thought it would do as we enter Oscars weekend. “Poor Things” star Emma Stone took home the Best Comedy Actress Golden Globe as well as the Critics Choice and BAFTA awards for Best Actress. Meanwhile, “Killers of the Flower Moon” performer Lily Gladstone landed the Best Drama Actress Golden Globe and snagged the SAG award for Best Actress. That has left us Oscarologists split. Gladstone is slightly ahead in our Oscars odds chart for Best Actress but, truthfully, it could go either way.
Or could it go the same way?
Could Stone and Gladstone produce a delightful shock and share the Best Actress Oscar in a tie? Wouldn’t that be fun? Stone and Gladstone both seem like they’d be overjoyed if that were to happen, and so would we be. Best Actress has ended in a tie before.

Exclusive: And then there were three. As Deadline reported exclusively earlier this month, the field of writers in the running to adapt Jk Rowling’s Harry Potter books into a live-action series for Max has been narrowed down to three finalists. We can now reveal their names — according to sources, they are Francesca Gardiner, Tom Moran and Kathleen Jordan. The trio will be able to hone in on their pitches for the next couple of months, with a decision on who gets the job expected in June, we hear. As Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav announced last week, the Harry Potter series is slated to debut on Max in 2026.
Reps for Max and the studio behind the series, Warner Bros. Television, declined to comment.
Gardiner, Moran and Jordan are among the names of writers in contention reported exclusively by Deadline over the past month.

Exclusive: Things are heating up at Hogwarts.
The Harry Potter television series is closer to naming its creative leader as Deadline understands that the shortlist is now down to three names.
We hear that Succession writer Francesca Gardiner is now among the finalists to score the job of adapting Jk Rowling’s books for the Max streaming platform. It’s understood that Gardiner is now one of three writers currently being considered to lead Harry and his pals on the small screen.
A decision is expected soon. Max and Warner Bros. Television declined to comment.
Gardiner has emerged after Deadline revealed last month that there were four other writers in contention: Martha Hillier, Kathleen Jordan, Tom Moran and Michael Lesslie. It’s not clear which of these writers are still involved.
Gardiner was a consulting producer on Seasons 3 and 4 of HBO’s Succession. Before working on the Jesse Armstrong creation,...

When it comes to Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts franchise filmmaker David Yates returning to the Max TV series, he tells Deadline, “Never say never.”
Yates was at our TIFF studio talking up his new Netflix movie, Pain Hustlers, starring Chris Evans and Emily Blunt, which made its world premiere at the fest.
Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav confirmed that Max was making a Harry Potter TV series back in April at the streamer’s press day, one which would revisit the iconic books over the course of a decade-long series. When the series was made official earlier this spring, a search for a showrunner was underway in addition to a fresh-face cast. J.K. Rowling and longtime confederates Neil Blair and Ruth Kenley-Letts are exec producing. David Heyman, who developed the films, was in talks to do the same. Rowling’s Brontë Film and TV is producing with Warner Bros. Television.

Daniel Radcliffe is fine with sitting on the sidelines for Max’s upcoming Harry Potter TV series.
The series, which, as previously announced is expected to run for 10 years, will feature an entirely new cast. The project is expected to take a few years to get on air with sources suggesting a 2025/2026 premiere.
“My understanding is that they’re trying to very much start fresh and I’m sure whoever is making them will want to make their own mark on it and probably not want to have to figure out how to get old Harry to cameo in this somewhere,” Radcliffe told ComicBook.com. “So I’m definitely not seeking it out in any way. But I do wish them, obviously, all the luck in the world and I’m very excited to have that torch passed. But I don’t think it needs me to physically pass it.”

Daniel Radcliffe is alright sitting out the next round of “Harry Potter” projects. Warner Bros. Discovery recently ordered a new adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s best-selling series of novels, conceived this time as a television series for its streaming service Max. The project will feature an entirely new cast — a decision that Radcliffe is at peace with.
In a new interview with ComicBook to promote his TBS comedy series “Miracle Workers: End Times,” Radcliffe expressed his support for whatever comes for “Harry Potter,” but that he doesn’t feel he needs to be there.

Though the CW is beginning to pivot much more heavily to reality fare, with “All American” as the only original scripted series on its fall 2023 lineup, the network has added three new scripted projects to its slate for 2024: “Joan,” “The Librarians: The Next Chapter” and “The Swarm.” Additionally, 2024 will see the premieres of unscripted series “Patti Stanger: Millionaire Matchmaking,” “The Force” and “The Great American Bakeover” (all working titles).
All newly announced series are currently in production.
“Joan” stars Sophie Turner (“Game of Thrones”) as Joan Hannington, the notorious real-life jewel thief. Set in 1980s London, the series sees Joan as a devoted mother to her six-year-old daughter, Kelly, while trapped in a disastrous marriage with a violent criminal named Gary. When Gary goes on the run, Joan seizes the opportunity to adopt new identities and embark on a high-stakes journey to create a new life for herself and Kelly.

J.K. Rowling is well aware many “Harry Potter” fans intend to boycott Max’s upcoming television series adaptation due to her involvement as an executive producer on the show. The Warner Bros. Discovery streamer officially announced the series on April 12, confirming each book in Rowling’s series will be adapted into a full season of television. A new cast of actors will be assembled to take on the roles of Harry, Ron, Hermione and more. Rowling has been embroiled in controversy for several years now due to her controversial statements on gender, many of which have been slammed for being anti-trans.
“Dreadful news, which I feel duty bound to share,” Rowling wrote on Twitter in reaction to backlash against the new “Harry Potter” television series. “Activists in my mentions are trying to organize yet another boycott of my work, this time of the ‘Harry Potter’ TV show. During Warner Bros. Discovery’s big unveiling of the rebooted Max streamer, the big announcement the company saved for last was the official order of a “Harry Potter” TV show. And as with every new project in the franchise, the announcement immediately drew scrutiny due to franchise creator J.K. Rowling’s extensive history of transphobia.
During a Q&a session held on the Warner Bros. Burbank studio immediately after the conference, Max and HBO Content Head Casey Bloys declined to answer a question from a reporter regarding Rowling’s controversial reputation and how it might affect the show.
“No, I don’t think this is the forum,” Bloys said during the Q&a. “That’s a very online conversation, very nuanced and complicated and not something we’re going to get into.”

Despite author J.K. Rowling coming under fire during the pandemic over her comments on transgender issues, Warner Bros has boldly stood by the Harry Potter and Wizarding World architect, in particular this morning, when it was made official that Warner Bros Discovery has greenlit a Harry Potter Max streaming series.

Bloys bluntly responded, “I don’t have a comment on that today.”
“No, I don’t think this is the forum [to discuss that],” he said. “That’s a very online conversation, obviously very nuanced and complicated and not something we’re going to get into.”
“Our priority is what’s on the screen,” Bloys added. “Obviously, the Harry Potter story is incredibly affirmative and positive and about love and self-acceptance.

The announcement of a new “Harry Potter” TV series served as the climax of Warner Bros. Discovery’s presentation to press and investors on April 12 to tout the combination of HBO Max and Discovery+ into a new service dubbed simply Max.

Warner Bros. Discovery is taking the HBO out of HBO Max.
After months of anticipation, the company has finally revealed that the sort-of merger between HBO Max and Discovery+ will commence May 23, and the relaunched service will be named, simply, “Max.”
Warner Bros. Discovery also announced Max will launch with a price of $15.99 per month (or $149.99/year) at its ad-free pricing tier and $9.99 per month (or $99.99/year) for the cheaper, ad-supported subscription. There’s also an “Ultimate” ad-free plan for $19.99 per month (or $199.99/year) that allows four concurrent streams, 4K resolution, 100 offline downloads, and Dolby Atmos sound.
With an exception for that new, priciest tier, those are exactly the prior costs of the respective HBO Max-alone tiers (following a January price hike). All this arrives exactly three years after the initial launch of HBO Max in the midst of the pandemic back in May 2020.

Alison is determined to prove the validity of her own marriage – and Alec’s love for her – but is instead led into a world of disturbing secrets.
Mrs. Wilson will air on Masterpiece on PBS in 2019.
Mrs. Wilson is a co-production with BBC, written by Anna Symon (Indian Summers). It’s executive produced by Ruth Wilson, Ruth Kenley-Letts, Neil Blair, Lucy Richer for the BBC, and Eaton for Masterpiece. International sales are managed by all3media International.

J.K Rowling’s detective Cormoran Strike is heading back to the BBC with four new episodes of the crime drama.
The series, which is known as Strike in the UK and ran as C.B. Strike on HBO’s sister network Cinemax, is returning with Lethal White, a four-episode run based on the latest book written by Harry Potter creator Rowling under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith.
Tom Burke and Holliday Grainger return as Cormoran Strike and Robin Ellacott, respectively.
Currently, the series is only set to run on the BBC as I hear Cinemax, which launched the first season in June 2018, hasn’t had the opportunity to read the book yet. The novel was published by Little Brown & Company in September.

PBS’ Masterpiece came to TCA, noticeably absent executive producer/force of nature Rebeccca Eaton, to showcase the next season of Victoria and first season of The Miniaturist.
But first, Eaton’s deputy, Susanne Simpson, walked Masterpiece-adoring TV critics through the franchise’s projects in the works:
In 2019, PBS will air three-parter Mrs. Wilson, starring Ruth Wilson playing her own grandmother.
Also in the works, six-part Press, takes place in London and follows two rival newspapers, “one like the Sun and the other like Guardian,” Simpson said coyly, and how they compete for the best stories and the best journalists, delving “into the complicated lives of these people.” It’s penned by Doctor Foster writer Mike Bartlett, she revealed.
And, as Deadline reported earlier this month, PBS Masterpiece and British broadcaster ITV are teaming to bring Jane Austen’s unfinished final novel Sanditon to television. The broadcasters have partnered on the...

Cinemax continues its rebrand as a destination for fun, mostly action-packed, original programming, setting a premiere date for its miniseries C.B. Strike. The actioner based on Harry Potter author J.K. Rowlings’ crime novels — who wrote them under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith — will attack at 10 Pm Friday, June 1, on the premium cabler.
It stars Tom Burke as Cormoran Strike, a war veteran-turned-private detective, who operates out of a tiny office in London’s Denmark Street. Although wounded both physically and psychologically, Strike’s unique insight and his background as a military police investigator prove crucial in solving three complex cases that have baffled the police. Holliday Grainger also stars.
The series originally was pegged for sister outlet HBO, but Kary Antholis, president of HBO Miniseries and Cinemax Programming, and HBO programming chief decided last year that the show “would have a greater impact” on Cinemax, Antholis said at the time.

J.K. Rowling's magic is headed to TV. HBO and the BBC have teamed up to produce the "Harry Potter" author's first novel aimed at adults, "The Casual Vacancy," as a three-hour miniseries. Sarah Phelps, a veteran of the BBC who's written "EastEnders" and "Great Expectations," adapted the novel and Jonny Campbell ("In the Flesh") is attached to direct. Rowling will serve as executive producer along with Paul Trijbits ("Saving Mr. Banks"), Rick Senat, and her partner at Bronte Film and Television, Neil Blair. Ruth Kenley-Letts ("The Hour") will produce. Published by Little, Brown Book Group in 2012, "The Casual Vacancy" is a small town political drama set in a suburban town called Pagford. After the death of a parish councillor, an open seat on the council creates turmoil as citizens compete to fill the seat. The novel sets up battles between the rich and poor, old and young, and husbands and wives.

HBO has come on board as co-producer of BBC’s miniseries adaptation of novel The Casual Vacancy, from Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling. The three-hour mini, written by Sarah Phelps (EastEnders), produced by Ruth Kenley-Letts (The Hour) and to be directed by Jonny Campbell (In the Flesh), will begin production this summer in South West England. Published in 2012, Casual Vacancy centers on Pagford, a seemingly idyllic English village with a cobbled market square and ancient abbey. Behind the pretty façade, however, is a town at war: Rich at war with poor, teenagers at war with their parents, wives at war with their husbands, teachers at war with their pupils. The three-part mini is produced by Bronte Film and Television, the independent production company run by Rowling and Neil Blair, who is executive producing with Paul Trijbits (Saving Mr. Banks) and Rick Senat.
