Mrs. Sidhu Investigates looks set to be an engaging mystery series with a comedic lick of humor.
The new drama series, headlined by Meera Syal, premieres Monday, September 18, on Acorn TV.
TV Fanatic scored an exclusive first look at the series premiere in which Mrs Sidhu goes up against Dci Burton (Craig Parkinson).
Mrs. Sidhu, a caterer with a taste for solving crimes, is shocked when her niece, Rani, is taken away for questioning after some incriminating evidence.
All of this happens on Mrs. Sidhu's first day catering at Sharpetone, a high-end health club.
Things take a shocking turn when two bodies are found inside the spa.
Initially, Mrs. Sidhu is far more concerned with staying out of the drama until her niece is hauled in for questioning.
Mrs. Sidhu poses plenty of questions to Burton, who is taken aback at the fact that he should be asking the questions.

Acorn TV has been killing it with its mystery dramas filmed across the pond, and its latest looks like another murder-filled winner.
The streaming service has shared a promo of the series premiere of Mrs Sidhu Investigates, and let's say we're hungry for more.
Mrs. Sidhu Investigates stars Meera Syal, Gurjeet Singh (Ackley Bridge), Craig Parkinson, and Naana Agyei-Ampadu (Death in Paradise).
Mrs Sidhu Investigates follows Mrs. Sidhu (Syal), a high-end caterer with a taste for crime who solves murders and other ghastly crimes amongst the affluent residents of Berkshire.
A lifetime of being an "Indian Aunty," invisible to the elite, has sharpened her skills as an investigator: an instinct for truth, a warmth with people and a persistent sense of nosiness.
Recently widowed, Mrs. Sidhu juggles her new catering business with wrangling her wayward son, Tez (Singh), all while serving up justice to those who believe they are above the law.

Mrs Brown's Boys D'Movie hit cinemas on Friday (June 27), as Brendan O'Carroll brought Mammy and co. to the big screen.
While the BBC sitcom has always proved to be hugely popular with viewers, the critics have remained less impressed. However, will a film version change their opinions?
Below, Digital Spy rounds up the reactions to D'Movie.
The Guardian - Mike McCahill
"You sense O'Carroll has diluted his own show's essence for wider multiplex consumption: while the sitcom could be broad, it was often clever with it, and never this bland.
"Unlike Guest House Paradiso or Kevin and Perry Go Large or Keith Lemon, D'Movie is never aggressively, in-your-face bad; it's more a flatly indifferent cash-in – and the devoted fanbase this character has accrued over the past decade may yet rally to ensure it does indeed become another Inbetweeners-style box-office bonanza: comedy is subjective, after all. As Brendan O'Carroll stood in front of Digital Spy and hundreds of other guests at the biggest cinema screen in Ireland, surrounded by loved ones/co-stars for the world premiere of Mrs Brown's Boys D'Movie in Dublin on Wednesday (June 25), his voice noticeably cracked and buckled as he tried to process just how far his formidable comedy creation had come.
Mrs Brown's Boys is a comedy contradiction. The critics loathe it, but it has become a global phenomenon. It was the most-watched show of Christmas Day in the UK last year, while a combined total of over 22 million people tuned in for the two festive specials in 2012. The movie is reported to have taken around £1m in advance bookings.
Its detractors will argue that it showcases dated humour, and hold this aloft as an example of Brendan being lazy or lacking creativity. What they may not know is...

Story charts the relationship between a UK divorcee and Us novelist through their shared love of food.
BBC Films has optioned Deborah McKinlay’s novel That Part Was True. Christine Langan, head of BBC Films, described the book as “a stunning novel”.
“Deborah is a wonderful storyteller whose characters leap off the page, their dilemmas subtly touching modern nerves. We’re delighted to be bringing her engrossing world to the big screen for the first time,” added Langan.
The story begins when Eve Petworth writes to Jackson Cooper to praise a scene in one of his books and they discover a mutual love of cookery and food. Their friendship grows against the backdrop of Jackson’s unsatisfying love life and Eve’s tense relationship with her soon-to-be married daughter and plans are made to meet in Paris - a meeting Eve believes can never happen.

Director of British comedy films in the tradition of saucy seaside postcards
During the 1970s, British cinema produced dozens of sex comedies, of which the director Bob Kellett, who has died aged 84, was something of a master. Kellett's films superseded the Carry On series, whose innuendo had become smuttier and less funny, and predated the more vulgar Confessions movies. They were in the tradition of Donald McGill's saucy seaside postcards, which George Orwell had extolled as being "symptomatically important as a sort of saturnalia, a harmless rebellion against virtue".
Kellett, who was born in Lancaster, went to Bedford school, where he was captain of the rowing team. After school, he had various jobs, including growing and selling orchids, selling encyclopedias, and writing for an advertising agency, before entering the film industry in the early 50s. After working on several features as script editor for the producer Ian Dalrymple at Pinewood Studios,...

Last night, Edith Bowman played host to the British Academy Scotland Awards 2012, celebrating the year’s best and most promising talent in Scotland.
Previously known as the BAFTA Scotland Awards, the nominations were announced last month, with Ken Loach’s The Angel’s Share leading the pack, having taken home the Jury Prize at Cannes back in the spring.
The results have officially been announced, and Loach’s film didn’t disappoint, taking home the Best Writer award for Paul Laverty and Best Actor/Actress in the Film category for Paul Brannigan.
Zam Salim came away with the Best Director and Best Feature Film awards for his feature directorial debut, Up There, which was released in UK cinemas on Friday – if it’s playing in a theatre near you, this should definitely be encouragement enough to go and seek it out, if you haven’t done so already.
