Taika Waititi’s Next Goal Wins will now open in theaters closer to Thanksgiving as awards season heats up.
The soccer comedy is pushing back its release date from Sept. 22 to Nov. 17 of this year, Searchlight announced Wednesday.
Based on a 2014 British documentary of the same name from Mike Brett and Steve Jamison, Next Goal Wins is an underdog story that follows the national football team of American Samoa and their coach, Thomas Rongen, as they try to transform from perennial losers into a FIFA World Cup-qualifying outfit.
The movie was originally set to open in April 2023, but had to undergo reshoots when Armie Hammer exited the project after the actor was accused by multiple women of sexual assault.
Will Arnett replaced Hammer in playing a soccer executive working at the Football Federation American Samoa.

Searchlight Pictures has pushed back the release date for Taika Waititi‘s Next Goal Wins, the Michael Fassbender-led soccer comedy, which the Oscar winner wrote with Iain Morris. The Hawaii-set feature is now set to open on November 17th, having previously been dated for September 22nd.

The UK’s top film critics named Boyhood as Film of the Year at their annual ceremony last night, hosted by previous winners and Sightseers stars Alice Lowe and Steve Oram at London’s May Fair Hotel.
In addition to Film, Boyhood also won Director for Richard Linklater and Supporting Actress for Patricia Arquette.
Actress Miranda Richardson was presented with the Dilys Powell Award for Excellence in Film by actor Stanley Tucci.
The evening’s other big winner was Under the Skin, for which Jonathan Glazer was on hand to collect the Attenborough Award for British Film of the Year, and composer Mica Levi accepted the Technical Achievement Award for her score.
Oscar-nominated producers Mathilde Bonnefoy and Dirk Wilutzky were present to receive Documentary of the Year for Citizenfour.
Russian director Andrey Zvyagintsev accepted his Foreign-language Film prize for Leviathan by video.

BAFTA celebrated the second edition of its annual endorsement of U.K. rising talent on Monday night, naming its "Breakthrough Brits" of 2014.
