The Casting Society of America will tackle the age-old problem of ageism at a town hall for senior actors on June 10 in New York City as part of its ongoing “Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion in Casting Initiative.”
According to the Csa, the event’s goals are for actors and casting directors “to better understand the practical issues they encounter in their respective professions; to share goals and aspirations, and to discuss how Csa might better and more consistently work to increase audition opportunities and advocate for senior actors.”
Said casting director Stephanie Hobrook, who will be one of the panelists: “Now, more than ever, I feel a responsibility to do my part in ensuring that our multicultural and multigenerational society is reflected truthfully and collectively on screen. Inclusion in casting is about helping provide opportunities to actors of all ethnic backgrounds and ages, sometimes by helping open the eyes...

A respected husband and businessman named Harry Klein is found riddled with bullets in a field outside Springfield, Missouri.
With little evidence at the crime scene, detectives dive into Harry’s private life and discover the married man might have been involved in illicit affairs.
Detectives, therefore, weren’t surprised to learn that Harry was last seen with another woman named Judy Henderson.
But the sweet, single mother has just fallen in love with a new boyfriend. Could Judy or her boyfriend have anything to do with Harry’s murder?
Judy Henderson didn't deny her involvement with the murder, but she didn't work alone.
She was, however, a victim of the justice system.

I Dream Too Much tells the story of Dora (Edin Brolin), a recent college grad who goes to upstate New York to care for her reclusive great aunt. During the summer, the two help push each other to become better versions of what they are, along with some help and interactions with others from the small town.
After the film’s premiere at SXSW last month, we had a chance to sit down with the director, Katie Cokinos, Brolin and co-star Danielle Brooks, to talk about the project. We discussed crafting the story, weather challenges in New York and much more.
Check out the full interview below, and enjoy!
What was it about this story that made you want to tell it?
Cokinos: There were lots of different reasons. My usual response is that I wanted to write a coming of age film, but I also have a 14-year-old daughter who’s not into Twilight.

As Backstage was going to press with our annual Pilot Season Guide, Fox’s entertainment chairman Kevin Reilly was telling television critics and reporters that he considers pilot season dead at Fox; the network plans to switch to the year-round development model—something Sean J. Miller reports on this week, speaking to Fox’s VP of casting Seth Yanklewitz and casting director Sharon Bialy, who think the end of pilot season could be great news for actors, and CD Judy Henderson (“Homeland”), who thinks it could mean trouble. But though the frantic pace and stress of the traditional network casting loom large in actors’ minds, CD Cami Patton and actors Necar Zadegan and Tara Summers had nothing but pleasure working on the casting of Fox’s “Rake.” (Maybe it’s just a Fox thing?) That being said, Michael Mosley—who’s survived a couple of pilot seasons himself, even being...

After canceling auditions in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, some New York-based casting directors are back in business. New York City was hit hard by the storm, which did billions of dollars in damage and claimed some 30 lives. Broadway shows canceled performances and casting directors put the kibosh on auditions as actors and staff were unable to make it into the studios. Now, as the recovery process begins, Broadway shows are back (often with discounted tickets) and auditions are again underway. “We have auditions back on the calendar for tomorrow and Friday,” Tara Rubin, a casting director known for her work on such Broadway shows as “Mamma Mia”, “Oklahoma!” and “Metamorphoses,” told Backstage. “We were incredibly fortunate not to have lost power.” Others haven’t been so fortunate. “We have not been able to open and have cancelled this week’s [Equity Principal Auditions] and auditions,” Judy Henderson, whose office is located on West 89th Street,...
