Sleep can literally kill you. That's what makes "A Nightmare on Elm Street" so downright spooky. Upon reading a mind-blowing story about a young Cambodian child, who was terrified to sleep and then died while apparently dreaming, filmmaker Wes Craven conjured up a sleep demon for a screenplay. Freddy Krueger was born out of a real-life wave of similar incidents that swept across America in the 1980s. The 1984 slasher film, produced by New Line's Robert Shaye, saved the company from disaster and put it immovably on the map. It reinvented the slasher genre at a time when the horror subgenre was on its way out. By leaning into the universal human experience of sleep, it brought genuine fear to the surface again.
In the coming years, Freddy Krueger has haunted our dreams across six sequels, a vs. movie with Jason Voorhees, and a 2010 remake, starring Rooney Mara and Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy himself.

Do you still watch episodes of Freddy’s Nightmares on VHS? Are you one of the few that actually saw A Nightmare on Elm Street through to the end on either Nes or Commodore 64? Or, do you happen to have the board game still lying around in your closet? If you answered “yes” to any of those, well, you may want to learn more about FredHeads.
As it turns out, Venn Pictures – the very minds behind Don’t Fall Asleep, a fan film that showed us what Nancy was up to between the first and third Nightmare movies – are releasing a documentary that “will follow 3 fans as they tell their story and what their journey in the Nightmare community has been; some as fans, others rising through popularity. Like with any long-running slasher movie franchise, every horror fan has a favorite Nightmare on Elm Street sequel when asked. The most popular response is Dream Warriors, which, based on anecdotal evidence, many fans prefer even to the first film. Some like its follow-up, the Renny Harlin-directed The Dream Master, best. Very rarely, if ever, do Nightmare fans name the fifth installment, 1989’s The Dream Child, as their favorite. It’s the unloved orphan of the franchise, lacking even the novelty of Freddy’s Dead with its 3-D climax and the fact that it’s designed to end the series for good (even if Wes Craven’s New Nightmare would render said closure impotent just a few years later). For many, The Dream Child represents the franchise overstaying its welcome for one film too many before wrapping up. And, yes, the movie has its share of problems both in...

Ah, Valentine’s Day- that special time of year when, if you’re in a relationship, everything seems just wonderful. If you’re not, you pretty much wish everyone around you would stop being so damn lovey-dovey and just grow up already.
The horror genre has seen its share of passionate lovers and soul mates over the years willing to fight it out to the end, whether they’re being chased by creatures, psychotic serial killers, Mother Nature or even as they struggling against internal forces that threaten those they love most in the world.
To celebrate Valentine’s Day this Friday, I decided to pay homage to some of my very favorite couples in the horror that demonstrate to the very fullest the idea, “til death do us part.” Check out the first part of my 14 Favorite Horror Couples countdown below and look for part two later this week right here on Daily Dead!

Now for many people, the best Noes sequel is number 3 for various reasons. It showed the return of Wes Craven as a writer, and we also have Chuck Russell (The Blob ‘88’) as both writer and a superb director. So it would make sense that anything that would come after would most likely be the whipping boy if it wasn't as good. Now, does that make part 4 a bad sequel? No, not at all in fact, it’s one of my personal favorites in the series. Does that make it better than part 3? No, not really as it does begin to fall into cliché and cheap scares, along with the descent of Freddy Krueger into a clown.
‘The Dream Master’ begins with the remaining Elm St. children from the last film living in peace: except for Kristen, who was originally played by a young Patricia Arquette...
