A new episode of The Arrow in the Head Show has just been released, and in this one hosts John “The Arrow” Fallon and Lance Vlcek are looking back at what may be the least popular entry in the Alien franchise – and if that’s the case, it’s an accomplishment that it passed some of the lesser entries on the race to the bottom. The movie in question is 2017’s Alien: Covenant (watch it Here) – and to find out what The Arrow and Lance think of it, check out the video embedded above!

We've seen both DC and Disney's version of the lost city of Atlantis, but now a new studio and filmmaker are set to take a crack at bringing the fantasy world to life. Colin Trevorrow, who's best known for directing the two-thirds of the new "Jurassic World" trilogy, has reportedly closed a deal on a film called "Atlantis" with Skydance Studios, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Trevorrow is set to direct and produce, while "House of the Dragon" writer and executive producer Charmaine DeGraté is set to pen the script.
The project was initially in development at Universal, with reports from 2020 stating that Trevorrow co-wrote the story with Matt Charman ("Bridge of Spies"), with "Alien: Covenant" co-writer Dante Harper on board to write the screenplay. THR now reports that Trevorrow ended up with the project again in turnaround, and Skydance, the production company that's recently brought us blockbuster-style adventures like...

The director of “Jurassic World” and one of the writers and co-executive producers on “House of the Dragon” are teaming up for a big-budget sci-fi fantasy for Sundance. Director Colin Trevorrow and writer Charmaine DeGraté’s “Atlantis,” which was previously in development at Universal, concerns the fabled civilization that allegedly sank into the sea and was lost due to divine intervention of wrathful gods.
Trevorrow, who also helmed “Safety Not Guaranteed” and “The Book of Henry,” will produce via his Metronome Film Company alongside David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Don Granger’s Skydance. Trevorrow is coming off “Jurassic World Dominion,” which earned just over 1 billion worldwide, including 375 million domestically and 159 million in China, last summer.

It was well over two years since it was first announced that Jurassic World: Dominion director Colin Trevorrow would be directing a movie about Atlantis for Universal Pictures. Well, THR has reported that the movie is still in the works, but that it’s jumped ship to Skydance and has tapped Charmaine DeGraté to write the script.

Colin Trevorrow has previously said that the myths of Atlantis are actually rather relevant to today’s world. “For a generation right now to be able to enter a world that is not unlike their world – where their elders have basically gifted them a civilization that is dying – I think it is the right moment for that story,” Trevorrow said. Fresh off finishing post-production on "Jurassic World: Dominion," director Colin Trevorrow is preparing to take audiences on another (sort of) prehistoric sci-fi adventure in the form of a movie about Atlantis. Trevorrow will direct from a script penned by Dante Harper ("Alien: Covenant"), based on a story Trevorrow co-wrote with Matt Charman ("Bridge of Spies").
Most stories about Atlantis depict the mythical city as a technologically advanced civilization that sunk to the depths of the ocean due to its leaders' hubris. As with any tale, factual or not, about an ancient society that collapsed as a result of its people's arrogance,...

Based on a story by Trevorrow and Matt Charman (Bridge Of Spies), Atlantis will be written by Dante Harper, whose scripts include the original spec All You Need Is Kill that became the Tom Cruise thriller Edge Of Tomorrow, Alien: Covenant and most recently Forever, scripted for Rogue One director Gareth Edwards.
Unlike previous incarnations of the mythical city as an underwater kingdom, Trevorrow’s Atlantis is set on a lost continent in the Indian Ocean between Africa, India and Oceania. It is a multicultural civilization with its own advanced technology.

Oscar-winning screenwriter Tom Schulman has issued a strong endorsement for David Goodman for re-election as president of the Writers Guild of America West.
In an email to WGA West members Wednesday, Schulman took issue with the claim by the opposition Writers Forward Together slate that they have never seen the Guild so divided. He noted that more than 7,000 members voted in March to support the leadership’s Code of Conduct to ban agency packaging fees and affiliate ownership, while around 300 opposed.
“In my 33 years as a Guild member, I’ve never seen anything close to 7,000 members turn out to vote on anything,” he said. “Far from divided, we have unprecedented solidarity.”

Oscar-winning screenwriter Callie Khouri has issued a strong endorsement for David Goodman for re-election as president of the Writers Guild of America West.
“I have been a member of the WGA for twenty-nine years,” Khouri said in a email to members. “I’ve seen us win some and lose some. But after all these years I know one thing for sure; nothing makes a writer more vulnerable than a weak and fractured union. I am voting for experience, strength and unity.”
Khouri won an Academy Award for “Thelma & Louise” and created “Nashville,” which ran for six seasons. She said in the email Monday that the Writers Forward Together slate lacks the experience to lead. That slate, headed by Phyllis Nagy, is running on a platform that highlights the need for the WGA to resume negotiations with the major agencies. Ballots went out Aug. 29 to about 10,000 members with results announced Sept.

‘Thelma & Louise’ Scribe Callie Khouri Urges Writers To Re-Elect WGA West President David A. Goodman
With one week to go before WGA West ballots are counted, Oscar-winning screenwriter Callie Khouri is urging writers to re-elect the guild’s current leadership and “stand together” to win the WGA’s five-month battle with Hollywood’s talent agencies.
Khouri, who won the Oscar for Thelma & Louise, said in an email blast to the guild’s members Monday that the Forward Together opposition candidates – led by presidential candidate Phyllis Nagy – don’t have the experience needed to bring the agency campaign to a successful conclusion.
“I have served two terms on the board and on one negotiating committee, and I know from firsthand experience the level of research, preparation, and strategic planning required of the leadership and staff in a campaign like this one,” she wrote in support of WGA West president David A. Goodman and his team of running mates. “I take the writers of the Forward...

Three WGA West board candidates – Rob Forman, Ed Herro and Chris Roessner – have dropped out of the race, leaving 18 candidates vying for eight open board seats.
“The rumors are true,” tweeted Forman, who said he’s endorsing the current leadership’s ongoing standoff with the Association of Talent Agents. “I’ve withdrawn my name from the WGA board of directors race. This election has been turned into a referendum on the Ata conflict, and I don’t want to play third-party spoiler. The guild deserves a clean, up-down vote so we can all move forward as a union. My staying in the race would have potentially siphoned votes away from a group of candidates whose core strategic beliefs I agree with, and I simply wasn’t willing to risk that.”
He said he’s supporting David A. Goodman for president, Marjorie David for vice president and Michele Mulroney for secretary-treasurer.

A trio of candidates for the Writers Guild of America West’s board have dropped out of the race in order to support the guild’s hardline stance on Hollywood agents.
Rob Forman, Ed Herro and Chris Roessner all announced Tuesday that they had withdrawn from the contest. The three dropouts mean that there are now 18 candidates for eight open board seats in a contest that’s viewed as a referendum on the WGA’s hard-nosed approach. Election results will be announced on Sept. 16.

While the future of Ridley Scott’s “Alien” franchise on the big screen remains unclear, details about the intended next film, “Alien: Awakening,” are coming into focus. As part of Empire Magazine’s special “Alien” anniversary issue (via Av Club), the publication confirmed screenwriter John Logan, who co-wrote “Alien: Covenant” with Dante Harper, has already finished writing “Awakening” and the film is now waiting to be made. Empire even spilled the beans on the next sequel’s plot.

Amazingly, Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant opened in June and is already out on video disc. The film’s lackluster reviews and weak box office had 20th Century Home Entertainment get this out to begin bringing in the cash the film failed to generate. The good news is that the movie is better than you were led to believe and the disc’s special features are well worth a look.
Picking up 10 years after Prometheus, this film finally begins to fill in the backstory of the acid-spewing Xenomorphs. The biggest challenge with this entry is that Scott declares in one feature he wanted to scare the shit out of his audience but had to contend with viewers who have had nearly 40 years of chest-bursting, hissing, tail-wagging, nasty bug-like beasties chasing and eating humans. Thankfully, he’s up to the challenge by finding fresh angles and editing techniques to shock his...

It’s no secret that Alien: Covenant underwent some creative tinkering all throughout development. Shortly after the release of Prometheus in 2012, Ridley Scott’s prequel-sequel initially entered development bearing the title Alien: Paradise – if Damon Lindelof is to be believed, that arc has been folded into the as-yet-untitled third film in Scott’s prequel saga – when John Logan, Dante Harper, Michael Green, and Jack Paglen all contributed to the story in some shape or form.
That left Ridley Scott with plenty of material to work from, and it’s small wonder why the filmmaker wound up cutting a full 20 minutes from the theatrical version of Alien: Covenant. The finer details of those deleted scenes remain a mystery for now, but it seems Alien-Covenant – the website, not the movie – has unearthed details pertaining to a nail-biting encounter between the Xenomorph and the ghoul-like Neomorph that was reportedly left on...

God bless the Criterion Collection for their forthcoming Blu-ray of a nifty 2K restoration of The Breaking Point (1950), the second swipe at Ernest Hemingway’s novel To Have and Have Not, which is on the company’s release schedule for August 2017. You may have heard of the first version… Bogie, Bacall, Hawks, “You know how to whistle, don’t ya?” Remember that one? Well, this one, the story of a down-on-his-luck charter boat captain Harry Morgan (John Garfield) who gets manipulated into a deadly smuggling run to help make ends meet, is directed by Michael Curtiz, and it trades Hawks’ larky, Casablanca-derived vibe for something decidedly darker, a daylight-splashed noir that somehow ferrets out all the chiaroscuro shadows in Hemingway’s material nonetheless. Throughout The Breaking Point, but especially in the movie’s riveting second half when Morgan allows himself to get roped into a second, even more dangerous scheme,...

Ridley Scott hasn’t worked through his daddy issues yet. Many of his films deal with men, biblical figures, robots (replicants), and others, seeking answers from their creators. The director previously relied heavily on this concept with his first Alien prequel, Prometheus; much to the dissatisfaction of fans and critics alike. Many of the thrills and chills from the 1979 film were placed in the shadows to shine a light more on man’s search for the answers to the universe, along with an android teaching these foolish mortals a lesson or two along the way. Now, with Alien: Covenant, this is the second film where Ridley Scott tries to blend “man and his creator” questions with the horror of the unknown. Although longtime Alien fans might praise Covenant for delivering more of what they didn’t get enough of in the previous prequel, the British auteur still hasn’t found...

Chicago – It’s worth noting that the Alien series extends back nearly 40 years, and yet the chest-bursting Xenomorphs have produced a grand total of exactly two good movies. The orginal “Alien” and “Aliens” are great films that stand the test of the time, while every other entry in this series would require a significant stretch of the imagination to be called barely watchable.
Rating: 2.0/5.0
“Alien: Covenant” is a sequel to the Alien prequel “Prometheus”, but it’s essentially the movie fans thought they would get when they signed on for that earlier, overlong essay of sci-fi mumbo jumbo. While the first two films tried to break new ground, “Alien: Covenant” is content to merely rehash the hits. It’s less of a new film and more of a Frankenstein’s Monster mashup of elements that worked before but have not necessarily gotten any better with repetition.

Say what you will about his final products, but Ridley Scott has spent quite a bit of time in the Alien world. From the aforementioned Alien to Prometheus, he has dabbled with xenomorphs more than anyone else. This week, he returns to the world once again with Alien: Covenant, a franchise outing that attempts to split the difference. It’s Scott trying to have his cake and eat it too. As you might have seen hinted over the past week or two by yours truly, I didn’t think it worked, but reviews so far have been divisive. Some love this flick, while others aren’t fans. In other words, it’s very much a Scott outing and a summer blockbuster. The film is both a sequel to Prometheus as well as a prequel to Alien. Here, we follow the crew of the colony ship Covenant. Filled with sleeping settlers...

There's a knockout scene in the mind-bending space thriller that is Alien: Covenant in which David, an android played by Michael Fassbender, teaches Walter – the upgraded 2.0 model, also played by Fassbender – how to play a flute. "Watch me ... I'll do the fingering," says David with enough come-on carnality to singe the screen. Can art, science, spirituality and rampaging ego be embodied by a machine? Can humanity still survive in an alien world? Can an android be gay? Can the amazing Fassbender, playing god and devil and all stops in between,...

'Alien: Covenant' review: Michael Fassbender plays android brothers David and Walter in this effective sequel to Ridley Scott's muddled 'Prometheus.' 'Alien: Covenant' review: Recapturing 'some of the excitement, awe, and horror' of 1979 original Before we get to Alien: Covenant, a rant about its predecessor, Prometheus. The problem with Ridley Scott's 2012 return to the Alien universe is that the more we learned about the skeletal, seething, phallic, vicious xenomorphs, the looser their hold on our cinematic subconscious. Much of the effectiveness of Scott's 1979 franchise starter lies in its cruel randomness; the tragedy of a horrible death being the result of bumping into the wrong stranger on the wrong street on the wrong night. Jettisoning such primal simplicity, Prometheus suggested a farfetched connection between the aliens and mankind. The result was a muddled attempt at expanding the Alien universe so it could address no less than the origins of humanity.

After 2012’s Prometheus, Ridley Scott returns to the scene of the Alien prequel crime, and he’s on viscera clean-up detail: Covenant is another lead-into the 1979 classic, but it presses the reset button in many ways. So, we get some of Prometheus’s philosophical content, but also a return of the grungy ‘70s low-tech aesthetic, and more straightforward horror movie thrills.
After an intriguing prologue featuring a younger Weyland (Guy Pearce) and a proto-David (Michael Fassbender) – creator and creation – we are aboard the Covenant, a colony ship en route to seed a distant planet named Origae-6. Following a neutrino burst which damages the solar sails, the resident android Walter (Michael Fassbender) wakes the crew from cryo.
Newly-promoted Captain Oram (Billy Crudup) gets his people back to work and fixing the ship.

MaryAnn’s quick take… A rote disappointment. There is nothing shocking or even mildly unexpected here. But there is an ironic weakening of the power of the xenomorphs to terrify. I’m “biast” (pro): love Alien and Aliens
I’m “biast” (con): wasn’t crazy about Prometheus
(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)
It’s difficult to imagine that there will ever be a movie scene as unexpected and as shocking as that bit in Alien — yeah, that bit — when a tiny horrifying alien creature, all teeth and slither, bursts out of poor John Hurt’s chest and slowly gawps around as if to say, “That’s right, meatbags: I, your worst nightmare, have arrived.” We sure as hell are not going to see a replication of the paralyzing terror those of us in the cinema darkness shared with the human onlookers onscreen if no...

Ridley Scott returns with another Alien prequel to follow 2012’s Prometheus. Here’s our spoiler-free review of Alien: Covenant...

Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created, with Alien: Covenant, a new chapter in his ground-breaking Alien franchise. The crew of the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world. When they uncover a threat beyond their imagination, they must attempt a harrowing escape.
Set ten years after the events depicted in Scott’s 2012 hit Prometheus, Alien: Covenant returns to the roots of the director’s groundbreaking saga with a uniquely terrifying tale filled with white-knuckle adventure and monstrous new creatures. With this, the sixth installment in the blockbuster series, the visionary director edges ever closer toward revealing the mysterious origins of the mother of all aliens, the lethal Xenomorph from the original film.

While Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios are sharing Spider-Man, Sony is developing a whole other separate Marvel Cinematic Universe with Venom, Silver Sable, Black Cat, and I'm sure there will be more films announced in the near future. Sony apparently owns the rights to 900 Marvel characters, and they are looking to cash in on them.
According to Collider, this separate cinematic universe will be launched with Venom, and that film is apparently being planned as an R-rated movie! I think fans could totally get behind an R-rated Venom film, especially if it leads to an R-rated Carnage movie! They can't have a cinematic universe with Venom and not Carnage!
We all knew that films like Deadpool and Logan would help pave the way for R-rated comic book movies, but we also know it's not the rating that makes a film good or bad! It's the story and script! So hopefully...

A few years back, Sony Pictures tried their hand at creating their own universe. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 wasn’t just meant as a sequel to the first film, but a way to create an entire Sinister Six spinoff that could potentially lead into any other spinoffs. It was an ambitious plan, and sadly, it’s one that didn’t work out. As we know, Sony and Marvel Studios have since teamed up to bring Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but that doesn’t mean they can’t create their own worlds separate from the McU. They do, after all, still have the film rights to all the characters in Spider-Man’s rogues gallery and beyond.
We’ve already seen steps like this taken in recent days. As we reported several days back, the studio has hired Thor: Ragnarok screenwriter to create a Black Cat and Silver Sable film,...

Collider is reporting that the gestating Venom movie will jump-start Sony’s own interconnected Marvel universe – and it’ll do so with an R rating.
Today’s alleged revelation is the latest in a long line of developments for the much-anticipated spinoff, after Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner were drafted in to fine-tune the initial script pitched by Dante Harper (Alien: Covenant). Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach have signed on to produce, and though Sony is clearly eyeing the back-to-back success of Deadpool and this year’s rather excellent Logan, it should be stressed that the Venom movie is still on the prowl for a director, meaning this purported R rating isn’t set in stone just yet.
Even still, assuming Collider’s sources are on point, an R-rated Venom spinoff would herald the beginning of a universe that is radically different from Sony’s earlier superhero efforts – namely those...

Hot of the press from Sony Pictures headquarters, and quite frankly completely unexpected, comes the news that finally, after being announced over a year ago, the Venom movie is set for an October 5th 2018 release date, filling the slot nicely that James Wan’s Aquaman has just vacated.
Rumours are currently flying as to who the director may be, and The Mummy and The Amazing Spider-Man director, Alex Kurtzman, looks to be in the lead especially after being announced by box office data providers Exhibitor Relations Co But this is yet to be confirmed by the studio.

The production of Venom has had a faltering start since 2014 when it was initially planned around the same time as the Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Earlier today, Sony’s planned Venom movie finally secured a 2018 release date, one that Aquaman originally held before Warner Bros. moved it, but it appears as if reports of The Mummy‘s Alex Kurtzman taking the helm were premature. The Hollywood Reporter has now revealed that he’s not currently attached to the project and that Venom is without a director at the moment.
What the film does have, however, is a fresh set of writers, as the trade reveals that the latest draft of the screenplay by Dante Harper is set to be rewritten by the team of Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner. Both men worked on the upcoming Jumanji reboot together, while Rosenberg’s previous projects have included Con Air and Gone In Sixty Seconds. Pinkner, meanwhile, contributed to The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and The Dark Tower.

One of Spider-Man's most notorious villains is back on track for the big screen, as a Venom movie has now been slotted for a 2018 release date by Sony Pictures.
According to Collider (via Exhibitor Relations), Sony has set an October 5th, 2018 release date for Venom, a film that will focus on the sinister symbiote from space that attaches itself to a human host—most memorably to Eddie Brock in the Marvel comics—creating one of the most powerful and deadly villains in the world of Spider-Man.
In March of 2016, it was revealed that a Venom movie was back in development at Sony with Dante Harper working on a screenplay and Spider-Man producers Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach backing the project. No updates have been made to confirm if that is still the case.

Remember that Venom film that Sony Pictures was working on when The Amazing Spider-Man franchise was still a thing? Well, the studio is finally moving forward with it, and they plan to release it in theaters on October 5th, 2018.
According to the report, Alex Kurtzman, the writer of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and director of Universal Pictures' upcoming reboot of The Mummy, will be directing Venom. He was previously attached to the project last year.
The last we heard, Dante Harper (Edge of Tomorrow) was writing the script and the movie was being envisioned “as a franchise apart from and unrelated to the upcoming Spider-Man movie in the works with actor Tom Holland."
I doubt this movie will be connected to the McU. This is probably just going to be a standalone franchise that they hope to build.

Update: We’re now learning that Alex Kurtzman, who penned The Amazing Spider-Man 2, will direct the film.
Earlier today, Warner Bros. decided to move James Wan’s Aquaman from its October 5th, 2018 release date, instead placing it on December 21st of that same year. Seeing an opportunity to strike, Sony has now announced that they’ve snatched up the fall date for their Spider-Man spinoff, Venom.
At the moment, that’s all we have to go on, as no director as been announced as of yet. We’re also unsure of it will have any ties to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, though we imagine that it won’t. After all, the studio will probably want to head down an R-rated route after the success of Logan and Deadpool and given the nature of the titular character, that definitely makes sense. Not only that, but the involvement of Amazing Spider-Man...

Plans remain afoot for Spider-Man spin-off movies, Sony Pictures' boss confirms...

Is it possible to enjoy movies being released as part of the various studio-controlled mega-franchises and still be profoundly concerned about where we are as a film culture right now? If so, I think that's a good description of where I am at the moment. The news broke over the weekend that Venom is back in development at Sony, with Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach in charge of this title. That's an important detail. You'll notice that the main Spider-Man film, set to be directed by Jon Watts, is being produced by Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige. You could look at the two teams as the difference between the major and the minor leagues, with Pascal and Feige in the primary spot. They're the ones handling the main part of the franchise. Arad and Tolmach are the b-team, and the films they're in charge of will be smaller scale, lower-budget,...

When Sony was planning their Amazing Spider-Man cinematic universe, Venom was intended to be one of the spinoffs to build on. That franchise has since been scrapped in favor of incorporating Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but Venom is still getting a shot at his own solo adventure. It was announced last Friday that Dante Harper has been hired to pen a Venom movie, with Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach returning to produce. Details are sparse, including whether the original Venom, a.k.a. Eddie Brock, is being featured, or if we'll get Flash Thompson as Agent Venom. The only thing that.s official this Venom movie is being looked at as "apart from and unrelated" to what.s happening with Spider-Man in his new reboot. Not having any direct ties to Spider-Man will be tricky considering how closely Venom is linked to the Web-Slinger. Still, there are plenty...

Thanks to Marvel, Sony Pictures is on the path to bringing Spider-Man back in a way that we’ve never seen him before. Now that they have that figured out, they are setting their sights on other Spider-Man character franchises like Venom.
Before The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was released, the studio was developing a Venom film, most recently with screenwriter Alex Kurtzman (Star Trek) leading the charge. After The Amazing Spider-Man 2 fell below expectations the Venom movie fell into the abyss.
The project has found its way back into development, though, as the studio recently hired Dante Harper (Edge of Tomorrow) to write the script. The report says that the movie is being envisioned “as a franchise apart from and unrelated to the upcoming Spider-Man movie in the works with actor Tom Holland.” So, the movie is going to stand on its own.

It seems Sony isn't giving up on all their original Spider-Man movie ideas despite their new deal with Marvel. They've resurrected the Venom spin-off film, adding a brand new screenwriter to bring the iconic symbiote to the big screen (again). Come inside to learn more!
Just because they're rebooting Spider-Man to be a part of the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe, doesn't mean Sony isn't still trying to make use of the property as much as possible. Heck, they've already announced a new animated Spider-Man flick (which was recently pushed back to December 21, 2018) that has no connection to the McU or the new reboot. Now, they're reviving the Venom spin-off movie, which was seemingly canned when the McU reboot of Spidey was announced.

Back when Sony abandoned its plans for The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and instead opted to share cinematic rights to the webslinger with Marvel, that appeared to be that for the Spider-Man cinematic universe it had planned. Spider-Man is now part of the Marvel cinematic universe after all, with Tom Holland debuting his take on the role in next month’s Captain America: Civil War.
However, it seems that whilst Sony’s plans for a range of Spider-Man films were halted, one of the projects is active again. And this is the planned Venom spin-off movie.
Alex Kurtzman at one stage was set to direct Venom for Sony (he's now working on The Mummy for Universal), but now we learn that Sony is starting again on the project. This time, the Venom film will...

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony Pictures is developing a new spinoff film focusing on Spider-Man's arch-villain Venom. The studio has tapped "Edge Of Tomorrow" screenwriter Dante Harper to pen the script with "Spider-man" producers Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach will produce the film.
"Venom" is being set-up by Sony to launch its own franchise and be set apart and unrelated to the new "Spider-man" film coming out next year which will be co-produced by Marvel Studios and star actor Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man.
Previous attempts at the screenplay over the years have been written by "Deadpool" screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick as well as "Star Trek" and "Transformers" screenwriters Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. "Seabiscuit" director Gary Ross was briefly attached at one point to direct along with "Chronicle" director Josh Trank soon after.
