Terry Gilliam’s “The Man Who Killed Don Quixote,” is finally getting some good news.
The film will now get a theatrical release along with its previously announced video-on-demand release at the end of this week on April 19, distributor Screen Media announced Monday. “Don Quixote” was at first only available to be seen as part of a one-night-only theatrical event on April 10 from Fathom Events, but the success of that screening prompted a wider theatrical release.
“The Man Who Killed Don Quixote” will roll out in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Austin, Texas and other top markets starting April 19. The film will also be released on all major VOD platforms on the 19th as well and will continue to expand theatrically throughout the spring and beyond.

Terry Gilliam’s The Man Who Killed Don Quixote is finally making its way to theaters after an arduous journey — and they have a new trailer to prove it. The film, which made its world premiere at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival, will play via via Screen Media and Fathom Events in over 700 U.S. cinemas and select Canadian locations for one night April 10 with exclusive bonus features.
The Man Who Killed Don Quixote is the story of Toby (Adam Driver), a cynical advertising director, who finds himself trapped in the outrageous delusions of an old Spanish shoe-maker (Jonathan Pryce) who believes himself to be Don Quixote. In the course of their comic and increasingly surreal adventures, Toby is forced to confront the tragic repercussions of a film he made in his idealistic youth – a film that changed the hopes and dreams of a small Spanish village forever. Screen Media finally released a trailer Monday for Terry Gilliam’s long-delayed film, “The Man Who Killed Don Quixote,” a passion project that has taken the director nearly two decades to get to the screen.
The film stars Jonathan Pryce as the title character alongside Adam Driver, Stellan Skarsgård, Olga Kurylenko and Jordi Mollà. Driver plays a frustrated filmmaker and disillusioned advertising executive who becomes pulled into a world of time-jumping fantasy when a Spanish cobbler (Pryce) who believes he is Don Quixote mistakes Toby for his trusted squire Sancho Panza. Pulled further into the cobbler’s world, Toby gradually becomes unable to tell his dreams from reality.
In 2018, Gilliam lost a legal dispute when a French court ruled that he would have to pay one of the film’s former producer, Paulo Branco, €10,000 for breach of contract. Branco also sought an injunction to prevent “Don Quixote” from being released...

Screen Media has bought North American rights to Terry Gilliam’s troubled “The Man Who Killed Don Quixote,” starring Adam Driver, Jonathan Pryce, Stellan Skarsgard, Olga Kurylenko, and Jordi Molla.
The film had its world premiere as the closing night film at Cannes 2018. Directed and written by Terry Gilliam, the film is co-written by Tony Grisoni and produced by Mariela Besuievsky, Amy Gilliam, Gerardo Herrero, and Gregoire Melin.
Amazon had been set to handle U.S. release of the film, which was embroiled in an ongoing legal dispute over its ownership, but backed out earlier this year. Gilliam started shooting the picture in 1998 with Jean Rochefort as Quixote and Johnny Depp playing a marketing executive who is sent back in time. But shooting stopped after Rochefort became ill and the film was riddled with financial difficulties and insurance problems.
The movie was the subject of a 2002 documentary “Lost in La Mancha.

After years of stops and starts, near-misses and almost-disasters, legal snafus and financial mishaps, Terry Gilliam’s plagued passion project “The Man Who Killed Don Quixote” is finally bound for U.S. release. Screen Media has picked up the North American rights to the film, starring Adam Driver, Jonathan Pryce, Stellan Skarsgard, Olga Kurylenko, and Jordi Molla.

In the ongoing war of words and court filings over Terry Gilliam’s troubled The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, comes a new, strongly-stated missive. On behalf of French distributor Océan Films and the movie’s producers, the communiqué released today is titled “Why Paulo Branco Was Never, Is Not And Never Will Be The Producer Of Terry Gilliam’s Don Quixote.”
This is a response to the latest move by Branco who, as part of a rights dispute, is seeking an injunction against the official closing night screening of the movie at the Cannes Film Festival. That matter is to be decided by a judge on May 7, one day before the festival kicks off.
To recap, Gilliam first began work on his passion project in 1989 and first started filming in 2000. After a series of ill-fated events, the movie was finally completed last year. The legal wrangle began in 2016 when...

Using the proprietary powers of the Metascore, everyone’s favorite review aggregator (sorry, Rotten Tomatoes) has ranked the 25 best directors of the 21st century. The results were found by averaging the reviews of filmmakers who have released at least four movies since January 1, 2000, and thus represent more of a number crunch than a subjective list.

As the two lowest-ranked auteurs are tied with an average Metascore of 78.4, essentially anyone who’s released at least one movie that received middling reviews didn’t make the cut — meaning that everyone from Quentin Tarantino and Terrence Malick to Sofia Coppola and Wes Anderson won’t be found here.
Topping the list is Alfonso Cuarón, whose average score of 87.5 comes from four highly acclaimed movies: “Gravity” (96), “Y Tu Mamá También” (88), “Children of Men” (84), and “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban...

Gilliam later said in a statement: ““Don Quixote is a dreamer, an idealist, and a romantic, determined not to accept the limitations of reality, marching on regardless of setbacks, as we have done. We’ve been at it so long that the idea of actually finishing shooting this “clandestine” film, is pretty surreal. Just how worried should fans of Brooklyn Nine-Nine be about whether Gina Linetti survived that bus accident? We posed that very question to co-creator Dan Goor ahead of Tuesday’s spring premiere (8/7c, Fox).
“On a scale from 1-10, where 10 is the highest, I would say [fans] should be at like a 7,” Goor tells TVLine. “We saw a city bus hit a human being… it’s a legitimate concern.” (Ruh-roh!)

Could Marlon Brando return to the Oscars posthumously? The documentary Listen to Me Marlon made the finals for the Best Documentary Oscar even though documentaries about Hollywood stars and movies aren't typically so favorited. The Academy branches have been furiously screening all sort of less heralded fare of late. Tim already talked us through the animated shorts and I'm most intrigued by the Chilean allegory about a bear ripped from his circus life and a film about Russian astronauts. But there's more to uncover!

Over the past half-century, Terry Gilliam has lived several lifetimes — first as the mastermind behind the surrealistically satirical animations on Monty Python's Flying Circus and then as a filmmaker with an unparalleled, singular imagination. His oeuvre contains everything from literary flights of fancy (Jabberwocky) and kid-friendly fantasies (Time Bandits) to dystopian epics (Brazil and Twelve Monkeys), kaleidoscopic romps (The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas) and the occasional slightly warped drama (The Fisher King, Tideland).

The two little girls from This Is 40 are all grown up! Judd Apatow and Leslie Mann made the New York City premiere of Trainwreck a family affair on July 14 when they brought along their two beautiful daughters, Maude and Iris. The family of four walked the red carpet together at Alice Tully Hall, and the girls quickly stole the show. Maude, whose impressive acting skills were most recently seen in the last season of Girls, looked more grown up than ever in a cute floral dress. Iris, who attended the MTV Movie Awards with her famous dad back in April, looked like the spitting image of her hilarious mom. The movie's stars, Amy Schumer and Bill Hader, also made appearances, with Amy showing some serious skin in a sexy black dress. Other celebrities in attendance included Zosia Mamet, Brie Larson, LeBron James, and Marisa Tomei. Keep reading to see...

It's almost September, which means a whole new slew of titles on Netflix! August proved pretty lucrative on the quality title front, but it looks as though September it's going to blow the rundown out of the water.

And fans still mourning the loss of "How I Met Your Mother" (in more ways than one) can rewatch the ninth and final season to their heart's content. Ah, memories. The year was 1999 and by the summer, teen films were all the rage. The year kicked off with two unexpected box office successes, Varsity Blues and She’s All That, before studios started pumping out hit after hit. In the same year, Drop Dead Gorgeous, a dark comedy about teenage girls competing in a local Minnesota beauty pageant, bombed at the box office. Unable to capture the same excitement as American Pie or 10 Things I Hate About You, the film quickly disappeared from theaters after earning a dismal $10.5 million at the box office.
It was only later, when released on DVD and VHS, did the movie become a cult classic. Similarly to Jawbreaker, which also came out in 1999, Drop Dead Gorgeous proved to be a pivotal film — introducing audiences to Amy Adams, making use of the mockumentary style — even if it was overlooked at the time.

The year was 1999 and by the summer, teen films were all the rage. The year kicked off with two unexpected box office successes, Varsity Blues and She’s All That, before studios started pumping out hit after hit. It's time to take a bow, Seth Meyers. The long-time Saturday Night Live writer and star took his place behind the Weekend News Update date for the very last time on Saturday night—and true SNL fashion, some very famous friends joined him. Amy Poehler, Andy Samberg and the always-eccentric Stefon, (aka Bill Hader) stopped by Studio 8H to give new Late Night host a warm sendoff into his post-SNL career. Although we were slightly disappointed that we didn't get a final, "Really?!" sketch from Amy and Seth, the special three-minute adieu was both heartfelt and hilarious. After visiting some of Stefon's favorite clubs—Crease, Twice, Slice, Gush, Push and …...

Announced back in the fall of 2012, "Ezekiel Moss" is currently very early on in the development stages, and Philip Seymour Hoffman is slated to be the film's director.
According to the synopsis, "The film is a depression era ghost story about a young, imaginative boy living in a small dead end town who befriends a mysterious drifter who may or may not have the supernatural ability to communicate with the dead."
Jake will play the role of that drifter, who is also Ezekiel Moss himself, and Amy is set to play Iris, mother of the young boy who comes to love Moss.

Tomorrow Doctor Who fans worldwide will be huddled in front of their television screens and shoddy livestream connections to watch an unprecedented simulcast of the show’s 50th Anniversary Special: The Day Of The Doctor. In honor of the event, we’re looking back (and in a few cases, forward) at the hottest time travelers of all time. Now, we’ve already ranked the hottest Doctor Who companions (so, no Jack Harkness or Amy Pond on this list, boys and girls), but this time we’re looking at mad scientists, romantic heroes, and more than one Time Lord who goes by the name of “Doctor.”

The film panel talks about Terry Gilliam's new film The Zero Theorem with Dean Zanuck, Amy Gilliam and Zev Forman. Comic Con 2013: Hall H presents The Zero Theorem Mod: Gina McIntyre Dean Zanuck Amy Gilliam Zev Forman Gina: Thank you for being here today for the film by Terry Gilliam. We have Dean Zanuck, Amy Gilliam, and Zev Forman. Terry couldn’t be here but he sent you a message about the film. I think the footage is beautiful, can you tell us about the premise? Dean: I didn’t think about his other films because I was looking for an original screenplay. I think every independent producer has to take on a meaning of life film sometime in his career. I found the only director in the world that could do this film. Gina: We got to see the extraordinary cast. What’s it like to watch him work with those actors.

IFC Films’ Would You Rather is a pretty solid horror movie, with a fun/diverse cast and that Clue meets Saw appeal. Check out my interview with David Guy Levy, and the review of the film here.

Shepard Lambrick (Jeffrey Combs), a seemingly philanthropic aristocrat, expresses an interest in helping them. He invites her to an exclusive dinner party that offers the chance at untold riches. Shepard Lambrick, a seemingly philanthropic aristocrat, expresses an interest in helping them. When he invites Iris to an exclusive dinner party, she accepts. Also attending the dinner party are seven more desperate individuals. Recently released on VOD and in limited theaters is David Guy Levy's wickedly brutal Would You Rather, and we caught up with co-star Sasha Grey to hear about her role in the thriller, what drew her to the project, working alongside her castmates, and much more.
The film follows a young woman (Brittany Snow) who shows up for a dinner party, only to be forced into a deadly game of Would You Rather alongside seven other guests hosted by twisted "philanthropist" Shepard Lambrick (Jeffrey Combs), who offers them all a handsome reward for surviving his game.
You'll find the highlights of our exclusive interview with Grey below, and make sure to check out Would You Rather (review here) now that it's been released (absolutely worth it).

For fans of Parks and Recreation, Amy Poehler and Adam Scott are television’s most adorable couple. But in A.C.O.D., the Sundance movie about an Adult Child of Divorce (Scott) who’s never really recovered from the trauma of his parents’ split, their relationship could not be chillier. Poehler plays Scott’s pushy step-mother — and the landlord of his restaurant — and she’s not afraid to throw her influence around. (Imagine if Leslie Knope had grown up in Eagleton and you get the idea.)

Y&R has chosen an executive from within its network to head up its struggling Sydney operation, appointing the CEO of Y&R Indonesia as managing director of Y&R Group Sydney.
The announcement comes two months after news emerged that Y&R Group Australia and New Zealand CEO Russel Howcroft would be moving to Ten. Howcroft’s regional role has since been scrapped in favour of a local structure “to get closer to clients”.
Andrew Dowling – an Australian who started his career at Patts Sydney – was chosen to lead Gpy&R Sydney, IdeaWorks and Vml after a global search that took seven months and involved three recruitment consultancies.

Doctor Who is building up quite the head of steam as it approaches tonight’s season finale. The Doctor, Amy Pond, River Song, Rory, it will all come together.
It goes without saying that since Russell T Davies got his mitts on the series and arguably even more so since Steven Moffatt took over, the appeal of Doctor Who has grown and grown. My son is beyond obsessed with the character in all his forms and much of the population of the UK seems to have more than a passing interest in this increasingly enduring character.
With the current season nearing its end, the DVD and Bluray boxsets will soon be available and we hear that a brand new miniseries (mini is the word – five episodes totalling at most 15 minutes) will make its debut as an extra. Here is the full blurby/advert/spiel thing for the box set.

This week MakingOf sat down with Terry Gilliam, the director of “The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus," a fantastical mortality tale that features Heath Ledger’s final performance. The movie tells the story of Dr. Parnassus and his extraordinary ‘Imaginarium’, a travelling show where members of the audience get an irresistible opportunity to choose between light and joy or darkness and gloom. The movie’s ensemble cast includes Johnny Depp, Jude Law, Colin Farrell, Christopher Plummer, Tom Waits, Verne Troyer and Lily Cole.
The tragic loss of Heath Ledger during the production threatened closedown, but Gilliam fought to re-configure the story without losing Leger’s amazing performance. Gilliam, his cast and crew worked tirelessly together to complete the journey which had begun in the fervid, boundless imagination of Gilliam and his co-writer Charles McKeown less than eighteen months before.

Writer-director Terry Gilliam discusses the unique nature of his latest film, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, in a new clip, "Behind the Mirror," exclusive to Yahoo Movies UK. In the clip, Gilliam describes Imaginarium as a "compendium" of ideas and themes that he's "played with" in other films.
It's magical. It's very moving, I think it's touching, it's funny. It's all sorts of things. So, in many ways, both the most mature thing I've done and the most juvenile thing I've done.
Producer Amy Gilliam also provides commentary, along with several of the film's stars, including Christopher Plummer and Lily Cole.
