In a small Minnesota town, the annual beauty pageant is being covered by a TV crew. Former winner Gladys Leeman wants to make sure her daughter follows in her footsteps. Explosions, falling lights, and trailer fires prove that. As the Leemans are the richest family in town the police are pretty relaxed about it all. Despite everything, main rival (but nice) Amber Atkins won't be stopped. There could well be more death and disappointment to come.

The town of Mount Rose is fictional and is a anagram of Rosemount, where screenwriter Lona Williams graduated from high school. However, all the other Minnesota cities mentioned in the film (such as Burnsville, Forest Lake and Pine City) are real cities in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area.

Harold rips John's clip-on tie off. He also pops the third button down on his shirt. The camera cuts away and quickly pans back to John where the shirt is mysteriously re-buttoned.
