Actors are in favor of the new contract its guild has won from the studios, though not without some dissent among the ranks. SAG-AFTRA members have voted in favor of ratifying the new deal, with 78.33 percent of members who participated voting to approve the contract. The strike is officially over.
The guild said on December 5 that of the 38.15 percent voter turnout, 21.67 percent voted “No.” That’s far from the near-unanimous support with which WGA members ratified the writers deal earlier this fall. But in 2020, the last time the SAG-AFTRA contract came up for ratification, the actors union saw a turnout of just 27.15 percent of its members; 74.22 percent voted to approve it.
Actors will now work under this contract until June 30, 2026.
“I’m proud of our SAG-AFTRA membership,” said SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher in a statment sent to press. “They struck for 118 days to grant the TV/Theatrical Negotiating Committee the...

The Man Without Fear is set to make his return to the Marvel Universe with Daredevil: Born Again. Charlie Cox will be suiting back up (likely in the new yellow color scheme seen in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law) as Hell’s Kitchen resident Matt Murdock. Cox will be joined by the former Netflix series cast Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin and Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/The Punisher as well as include Sandrine Holt as Vanessa Fisk. There are also actors in undisclosed roles, including Margarita Levieva, Nikki M. James, Michael Gaston, Arty Froushan, and Clark Johnson.
One actor whose role in the upcoming Disney+ show used to be undisclosed is Michael Gandolfini. That is until Marvel lowkey revealed who he will be playing. According to Cbr.com, the pilot episode has been listed at the U.S. Copyright Office, and Gandolfini’s role is listed as Daniel Blade.

Ezra Knight has been reelected president of SAG-AFTRA’s New York Local in a landslide victory that also gave his running mates a clean sweep of the election. Knight received nearly 73% of the votes cast in a four-person race for president. His four vice presidential running mates – Linda Powell, Anthony Rapp, Jim Kerr and Liz Zazzi – were also elected.
Knight is the leader of the local’s ruling Usan party that endorsed the unity slate led by SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher and Secretary-Treasurer Joely Fisher, who also won landslide victories last night.
Knight was also the top vote-getter in the NY local’s national board races, and here too his Usan running mates won every race, including Avis Boone, Christine Bruno, Samantha Mathis, Michael Gaston, Phoebe Jonas, Samantha Macivor and Jim Kerr.
Usan was formed by New York members of SAG and AFTRA who were dedicated to the merger and to “Uniting Screen Actors Nationwide.

Despite the wall-to-wall coverage of Hurricane Katrina, there wasn’t a lot of archival footage of some of the more devastating moments that producers wanted to depict in Apple TV+’s Five Days at Memorial — like when the roof came off the Superdome and the 9th Ward flooding. So VFX supervisor Eric Durst said his team went back “forensically” to research those moments before depicting them in the limited series.
It took nine months alone to re-create the breaching of the 9th Ward levee.
“We had to visualize what that was, the breaching of the lower 9th Ward, where a wave of 12 to 20 feet was unleashed. It was like a tidal wave that wiped out everything in its path,” Durst said at Deadline’s Visual Effects + Screen awards-season event. “We wanted to be as accurate as possible. When Daredevil: Born Again comes to Disney+, the 18-episode presentation will reportedly be divided into two parts, with multiple story arcs making up the overall adventure. This rumor hails from industry insider Daniel Richtman, who’s keeping tabs on the Marvel production, which is currently on hold due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Richtman says Marvel plans to break the series into multiple story arcs, with two or three episodes dedicated to each segment.
Additionally, Richtman says Daredevil: Born Again strives for a TV-ma rating, adding to the short list of mature content offered on the service as Disney+ prepares to merge with Hulu in the U.S. This tidbit should please fans of the Man Without Fear after many complaints about the character’s lighter tone in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.

SAG-AFTRA’s New York president Ezra Knight says the actors’ union “agonized” over the decision to go on strike.
“We agonized over this decision because going on strike is a very difficult decision. But once we got across the table from them and saw what they were sending back to us, we collectively agreed that it was not acceptable,” Knight told TheWrap during a picket at 30 Rockefeller Plaza on Monday. “I think they underestimated our resolve and our unity in the room.”
Since the last SAG-AFTRA strike in 2000, the entertainment industry has completely evolved from a technological standpoint with the rise of streaming.

Filming for Marvel’s Daredevil: Born Again series is shutting down again because of complications brought on by the WGA writers’ strike. The highly-anticipated series needs to roll cameras at Silvercup East in New York. However, that’s where the primary picketing location for WGA members stands its ground. The latest pause for Disney+’s Daredevil series follows a previous shutdown when members of the Teamster Local 817 and IATSE Locals 829 and 52 would not cross the line.
Daredevil: Born Again is three months into an 8-month filming schedule. With the strike disrupting an already tight itinerary, Daredevil might not reach fans for quite some time.
Charlie Cox reprises his role as Matt Murdoch/Daredevil for the series. The actor officially rejoined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Spider-Man: No Way Home and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Vincent D’Onofrio will return as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, with Jon Bernthal returning as The Punisher.

Hello, and welcome to another edition of “trying to work out what Daredevil: Born Again will be about by examining all the set photos and footage coming out of the show’s ongoing NYC shoot”. As always, I’ll be your host, and today we’ll be taking a trip down (recent) memory lane, because some new images have got Marvel fans wondering whereabouts in the MCU’s timeline Born Again actually takes place.
The new pics show Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) strolling down a street wearing his iconic red glasses, and passing a Baptist Church. Nothing too fascinating about that, however, the bulletin board at the front of the church is dated March 15, 2020, aka the middle of The Blip, when half of the universe’s denizens were dust in the wind.

With filming on Disney+ Marvel series Daredevil: Born Again now well underway in New York City, star Charlie Cox has been spotted back on set dressed as lawyer Matt Murdock, complete with the character’s iconic red glasses and cane.
Cox is accompanied in the new Born Again set photos by smartly-dressed co-star Nikki M. James (Severence), who plays a new addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the upcoming Disney-fied version of the Netflix show. Marvel has not confirmed the name of James’ character, but she’s rumored to be playing assistant district attorney Kirsten McDuffie, who was once romantically linked to Matt in the pages of Marvel Comics. To be fair, you can’t throw a stone in the Marvel Universe without hitting someone Matt’s been romantically linked to! The old dog.

The red carpet was packed with stars, publicists and the media, while the Dolby Theatre was at capacity to celebrate this year’s victor, Everything Everywhere All at Once. The only visible person wearing a mask was Jessica Chastain.

Daredevil: Born Again is gearing up to start shooting in New York later this month and THR has reported that Marvel Studios has tapped Michael Cuesta to direct the first episode.
Michael Cuesta has some major pilots under his belt, as he directed the opening episodes for Dexter and Homeland. Cuesta has also helmed episodes of Six Feet Under, True Blood, Blue Bloods, Elementary, Billions, and City on a Hill. Sources told THR that Michael Cuesta is only directing the opening episode of Daredevil: Born Again as other directors are being lined up for the rest of the season. Setting the stage for a new series is an important gig, and I’m sure Michael Cuesta will get Daredevil: Born Again off on the right foot. Daredevil: Born Again is written and executive produced by Matt Corman and Chris Ord and will consist of eighteen episodes.

Michael Cuesta, the director behind the pilots for shows such as Dexter and Homeland, is helming the first episode for Marvel Studios’ Daredevil: Born Again.
Production on the 18-episode Disney+ series begins this month in New York and marks the true integration of characters that began life on Netflix, when the streamer had a slate of Marvel series in the mid-2010s, into the popular and dominant Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Charlie Cox, who starred as Matt Murdoch, aka Daredevil, the man without fear, is reprising his role for the series after making brief and teasing cameos in Spider-Man: No Way Home and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Vincent D’Onofrio is back as Wilson Fisk, the Kingpin of Crime — his first appearance in the MCU was a cameo in Hawkeye — and Jon Bernthal is returning as the hard-edged vigilante known as the Punisher.

January Jones is joining the debate over self-tape audition practices in Hollywood.
The “Mad Men” alum took to her Instagram Stories to call out fees to audition and the issue of sending in self-tapes as opposed to in-person readings. “Note to Hollywood: It’s time for casting directors to come back into the office like everyone else. To audition actors in person,” Jones wrote on Instagram (via Variety). “And if anyone asks for a Fee to audition please know that this is criminal and Pathetic.”
She continued, “I personally have had to self tape several times since the pandemic began and there is zero benefit to it for anyone involved. It’s time consuming, expensive, and a drag to whomever you have to drag in to read with you (sorry Mom), and is often done with zero direction/notes. Pent-up frustration by actors over the way audition process has evolved — or devolved — during the pandemic erupted this week when actors Ever Carradine, Merrin Dungey and Sprague Grayden slammed an ad by Betty Mae Casting offering paid self-taping services for non-Betty Mae projects. Their comments launched a heated discussion about the wide use of self-tapes, which have replaced the vast majority of in-person auditions over the last three years.
Because the conversation was triggered by the ad from Betty Mae, the company of well known casting director Mary Vernieu, with SAG-AFTRA calling casting offices charging for audition tapes “an optical and ethical disaster,” the society of Hollywood casting directors have found themselves in the eye of the storm.

Exclusive: After several actresses expressed frustration on Twitter this week about the cost of self-tape auditions, SAG-AFTRA weighed in Friday lambasting casting offices for cashing in on the process by offering rental facilities for actors.
“Casting offices charging actors for the creation and production of audition tapes is taking our industry in the wrong direction,” according to a statement. “It is an optical and ethical disaster. Actors are already faced with undue financial pressures in their pursuit of work. Casting offices running production and audition services runs counter to the principles of fairness and equity in our industry and the practice should be discouraged.”

Intelligence spends “Proof of Burden” trying to find what they need to officially take down sex trafficker Sean O’Neal (Jefferson White). Meanwhile, Voight needs to get Chief O’Neal (Michael Gaston) to accept the truth about his son. Just as they’re about to arrest Sean, however, they hear gunshots from inside the chief’s home. Once inside, they find both father and son on the floor — but Sean’s alive! It takes Upton a few moments longer than Voight to give him aid, then at the hospital, the doctor tells them they saved his life. Showrunner Gwen Sigan delves into that decision and teases what’s ahead. Talk about Upton’s reluctance to step in to help and then how ...

Does Intelligence have enough to put Sean O’Neal (Jefferson White) away for sex trafficking? Not yet, even after Detective Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) and Officer Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) found that skeleton on Chicago P.D. “We’re gonna be piecing together all the evidence that we actually have and finding that we don’t have as much as we think we do, and in true Cpd fashion, we will not quite have him,” showrunner Gwen Sigan tells TV Insider of the December 7 fall finale. “We know it was him. We know now what his motivations have been and why he’s trafficking these girls in the way he is. And it will now be about the obstacle of, how do we get him? And how do we get him when we know the chief is going to block every move that we make?” Chief O’Neal (Michael Gaston) is Sean’s father,...

Chicago P.D. returned with an episode that showed how Hank Voight had gone into a dark hole after his informant, Anna, was killed at the end of last season.
Detective Hailey Upton was the one who shot Anna, leading to Voight feeling some residual anger about how everything had transpired.
Voight had begun to do one-man foot patrols through the neighborhood where the drug ring used to operate out of a bakery, as well as where Anna was killed.
While Voight was doing another round of the neighborhood, Intelligence was being honored across the city for their work on bringing down that drug ring. The rest of the team received medals from the P.D. brass and accolades for a job well done.

NBC’s Chicago P.D. premiered its 10th season on Wednesday night and the anticipation as to how Jesse Lee Soffer, who plays Detective Jay Halstead, will exit is all anyone can think about.
The episode picks up two weeks after the crazy events of the Season 9 finale that saw the Intelligence Unit bring down the notorious Los Temidos gang who were responsible for much of the drugs flowing in and out of the city, among other horrible crimes.
With the organization out of the way, its replacement already has boots on the ground and Voight (Jason Beghe) is none too happy about it. Even as a powerful and connected guy, not even Voight can prevent a new gang from claiming the orphaned street corners.

Crowds at the DGA theater in Los Angeles were buzzing on Monday night when Chris Pine made a surprise appearance on the red carpet. Pine came out to the “Five Days at Memorial” premiere to support his dad, Robert Pine, in his newest acting endeavor.
The father-son duo posed together before Chris made his way into the theater, letting his father walk the line to talk to the press.
For Robert, his decision to get involved with this project came down to the script. “John Ridley and Carlton Cuse wrote [the script], and you just don’t get good writing like that all the time,” Pine told Variety. “I mean, any actor here can tell you that. So when something like that comes up — whether it’s even a small role or whatever — you leap on it because you want to be part of something like that.”

The multi-layered tragedy of Hurricane Katrina gets the Chernobyl treatment in Apple TV+’s Five Days at Memorial, a generally nightmarish, sometimes damning new eight-part limited series sure to stick with viewers who stick with it through its poorly focused home stretch.
Five Days at Memorial benefits from not taking on the responsibility of being a definitive Hurricane Katrina chronicle, for now a distinction held by Spike Lee’s HBO documentaries When The Levees Broke and If God Is Willing and Da Creek Don’t Rise. Apple TV+ is exploring the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in its latest limited series, “Five Days at Memorial.”
The series is based on actual events, chronicling the impact of the hurricane — which quickly became one of the deadliest natural disasters in the country’s history — and its aftermath on Memorial Medical Center in New Orleans. When the floodwaters rose, power failed, and heat soared, exhausted caregivers at the hospital were forced to make decisions that would follow them for years to come.
In a trailer released Wednesday, nurses, doctors, and residents brace for the hurricane as it races toward the city. As the sun rose over New Orleans the next morning, thousands were trapped inside the hospital, begging for help.
