When Orphan Black co-creator John Fawcett read Kat and Niko Troubetzkoy’s new The CW show Sight Unseen, his response gave the half-sisters, who were producers on his own Peabody-winning BBC America series, a jolt of confidence. “We showed him the pilot [script] and he said, ‘This is one of the best detective thrillers I’ve read in a while,” Kat recalls.
The show follows Vancouver homicide detective Tess Avery (Dolly Lewis), who, after experiencing sudden sight loss and becoming clinically blind, resigns from her position. Soon after, she meets Sunny (Agam Darshi), an agoraphobic volunteer on a visual assistance app who remotely provides Tess with visual description via a lapel camera, and the two begin to take up cases on their own.

It's hard to believe that the Orphan Black franchise is staging a comeback almost seven years after its series finale.
Thankfully, it looks like Orphan Black: Echoes will fit into the franchise very well.
Krysten Ritter is known for delivering stellar performances, and we should expect more of the same in the AMC, AMC+, and BBC America sequel series, set to air in 2024.
The promo was unveiled during New York Comic Con on Thursday and showcases Ritter as Lucy, a young woman caught up in what we can only describe as a nightmare.

The CW is bulking up its roster of scripted series — and again looking north of the border for its two latest shows.
The Nexstar-owned broadcast network has ordered dramas titled Wild Cards and Sight Unseen, targeting both for premieres in 2024. Wild Cards, starring Riverdale alum Vanessa Morgan and Giacomo Gianniotti (Grey’s Anatomy, Reign), is a co-production between The CW and Canada’s CBC, while Sight Unseen is in partnership with Bell Media’s CTV. Both are produced by Blink49 Studios and Front Street Pictures; Sight Unseen is also produced by Sisters Troubetzkoy Productions.

AMC Networks has released the first trailer for Orphan Black: Echoes, an original series set in the Orphan Black universe, starring and executive produced by Krysten Ritter. The teaser was released Thursday at New York Comic Con. The series debuts on AMC, AMC+ and BBC America in 2024.
“What’s wrong with me?” asks Krysten Ritter’s Lucy in the opening scene of the trailer. ” Why don’t I know who I am?” A disoriented Lucy is told she’s “been through a procedure.” We’re not exactly sure what that is, but it’s not good.
Set in the near future, Orphan Black: Echoes takes a deep dive into the exploration of the scientific manipulation of human existence. It follows a group of women as they weave their way into each other’s lives and embark on a thrilling journey, unravelling the mystery of their identity and uncovering a wrenching story of love and betrayal.

The CW has ordered two scripted series set to premiere in the fall of 2024: crime-solving dramas “Wild Cards” and “Sight Unseen.”
“Wild Cards” is a procedural starring two alumni of the CW: Vanessa Morgan (“Riverdale”) and Giacomo Gianniotti (“Reign”). Ellis (Giannioti) is a gruff, sardonic cop demoted from his role as a detective fown to the maritime unit, while Max (Morgan) is a spirited, clever con woman living a transient life and scamming everyone she meets. When Max gets arrested and ends up helping Ellis solve a local crime, the two are offered the opportunity to redeem themselves, with Ellis going back to detective and Max staying out of jail if they can learn to trust each other and work together.
Michael Konyves created “Wild Cards” and executive produces alongside pilot director James Genn, Shawn Piller, Lloyd Segan, and writers Alexandra Zarowny, James Thorpe, Noelle Carbone and Morwyn Brebner,...

Over six years after the finale of “Orphan Black,” AMC has returned with a first look at the upcoming spin-off “Orphan Black: Echoes.” The teaser was released as New York Comic Con enters its first day on Thursday.
The teaser shows Krysten Ritter as a dazed Lucy asking a woman, “What’s wrong with me? Why don’t I know who I am?”
As the teaser cycles between futuristic scenes of a large city, versions of Lucy emerging from pink test tubes and past and present iterations of the character cycling through various settings, Lucy’s monologue changes. “I have to face them. We have to figure out who we are,” she says by the trailer’s end.

The 2000 film Ginger Snaps (watch it Here) is my all-time favorite werewolf movie. That was followed by a sequel – Ginger Snaps 2: Unleashed – and a very unexpected prequel – Ginger Snaps Back: The Beginning – and while I’m not as enamored with them as I am with the original movie, I do get some enjoyment out of watching them. The oddball prequel especially. If you’re a fan of Ginger Snaps trilogy as well and happen to have a Region B (or region free) Blu-ray player, you’ll be glad to hear that Second Sight Films is packaging all three movies together in a limited edition UK box set that’s going to be released on October 30th. Just in time for Halloween, which happens to be the setting of the first movie.
Copies of the Ginger Snaps trilogy Blu-ray box set can be pre-ordered directly from Second Sight Films.

Few American filmmakers of the last 40 years await a major rediscovery like Hal Hartley, whose traces in modern movies are either too-minor or entirely unknown. Thus it’s cause for celebration that the Criterion Channel are soon launching a major retrospective: 13 features (which constitutes all but My America) and 17 shorts, a sui generis style and persistent vision running across 30 years. Expect your Halloween party to be aswim in Henry Fool costumes.
Speaking of: there’s a one-month headstart on seasonal programming with the 13-film “High School Horror”––most notable perhaps being a streaming premiere for the uncut version of Suspiria, plus the rare opportunity to see a Robert Rodriguez movie on the Criterion Channel––and a retrospective of Hong Kong vampire movies. “Queer Canadian female teen werewolf movie” may sound mighty specific as a subgenre, yet 23 years after John Fawcett’s delicious cult item “Ginger Snaps,” along comes “My Animal” to ensure it’s no longer in a category of one. A sleek, sensuous debut feature from accomplished short film and music video director Jacqueline Castel, this chilly tale of a suburban outcast whose headlong crush on an alluring figure skater threatens to expose her shape-shifting secret skitters lithely between genres — touching on young adult romance, creature horror and dysfunctional family drama — while keeping its own identity as fluid and elusive as that of its wounded, haunted protagonist.
As played by striking nonbinary performer Bobbi Salvör Menuez, protagonist Heather is among the more intriguing werewolves in horror history: a girl whose introverted demeanor and androgynous appearance have already placed her on the social fringes of her sleepy, snow-blanketed northern Canadian town, and...

With the previous episode of our Best Horror Movie You Never Saw video series, I wrote about a werewolf movie that I feel is underrated, the 1985 Stephen King adaptation Silver Bullet. With the episode that was just released this morning, I had the chance to write about my personal favorite werewolf movie, Ginger Snaps (watch it Here) from 2000. To find out all about Ginger Snaps, check out the video embedded above!
Directed by John Fawcett from a screenplay by Karen Walton, Ginger Snaps has the following synopsis:
Ginger and Brigitte, two sisters trapped in suburbia, are obsessed with mayhem, torture and death until they get a taste of the real thing. Bitten by a wild animal, Ginger begins to mutate into a sexy, uncontrolled woman, with some nasty canine tendencies. Is it a virus? Is it a curse? As much as the original "Orphan Black" series relied on the multifaceted talent of star Tatiana Maslany, the series was never just a one-woman show. While the current "She-Hulk" actor was doing her thing and embodying multiple different characters with widely divergent personalities, she was assisted by a strong supporting cast made up of the likes of Jordan Gavaris' Felix and especially Maria Doyle Kennedy's mother figure, Siobhan. The previously announced spinoff series, titled "Orphan Black: Echoes," appears to be taking this to heart and is off to a strong start with its newest casting.
