Disney Branded Television has promoted four key execs on its Original Movies team. Amee Dolleman and Charles Pugliese have been elevated to vice president, Original Movies, Disney Branded Television
and Mahita Penke and Jennifer Dubin have been upped to executive director, Original Movies, Disney Branded Television.
The Disney Branded Television team, led by Lauren Kisilevsky, SVP, Original Movies, has broadened its movie production slate over the past two years to reach kids, families, young adults and the young at heart.
The team just launched the third installment of the Zombies franchise, starring Milo Manheim and Meg Donnelly, on Disney+, along with other projects, including Out of My Mind, based on the best-selling novel by Sharon M. Draper from Big Beach, Participant and EveryWhere Studios LLC for Disney+; Descendants sequel The Pocketwach movie; and Prom Pact and Sneakerella, Spin and Secret Society of Second Born Royals. She reports to Kisilevsky.
Pugliese oversaw several movies for kids, teens and families, including Under Wraps, and is overseeing the upcoming titles Under Wraps 2, The Pocketwatch and Out of My Mind. He reports to Kisilevsky.

Preservation has found a home at The Orchard, reports Deadline. The film - which falls in line with Shock Till You Drop's partnership with The Orchard - had its premiere at Tribeca earlier this year and will play to Los Angeles audiences at Screamfest next month.

Exclusive: The Orchard has acquired North American rights to horror-thriller Preservation, from writer-director Christopher Denham. As an actor, Denham’s credits include Argo, Shutter Island, Sound Of My Voice, and Wgn America’s nuclear drama Manhattan. Preservation marks his second film as writer-director following 2008’s Home Movie. Pablo Schreiber (Orange Is The New Black, The Wire), Aaron Staton (Mad Men), and Wrenn Schmidt (Boardwalk Empire) star in the tale of brothers Sean and Mike, who embark on a hunting trip deep into an overgrown nature preserve with Mike’s wife. When the trio finds their gear stolen, fear and paranoia take over. Preservation debuted in April at the Tribeca Film Festival, where the Orchard also picked up horror pic The Canal. This one-of-a-kind event brings the international film and media community to New York City to advance new projects by nurturing the work of both emerging and established independent artists and filmmakers. Through the Project Forum, creatives connect with financiers, executives, influencers and decision-makers in film, television, new media and cross-platform storytelling that can help them complete their latest works and connect with audiences. Under the curatorial leadership of Deputy Director/Head of Programming Amy Dotson & Senior Director of Programming Milton Tabbot, this one-of-a-kind event takes place September 14-18, 2014 at Lincoln Center supporting bold new content from a wide variety of domestic and international artists.

In a joint effort to recognize the importance of career and creative sustainability, Ifp and Durga Entertainment have partnered on a new $20,000 filmmaker grant for an alumnus of Ifp. The grant is intended for active, working filmmakers who are also balancing a filmmaking career with parenting. The grant provides a $20,000 unrestricted prize to encourage the recipient to continue on her or his career path of making quality independent films. American directors or screenwriters working in narrative film who have participated in the Ifp Filmmaker Labs or Ifp Independent Film Week's Emerging Storytellers or No-Borders International Co-Production market are encouraged to apply by the deadline of August 8, 2014.

Responsibility for the death of Sarah Jones, who was killed last month while working on the set of "Midnight Rider: The Gregg Allman Story," may rest with the film's producers. That's because set safety is ultimately the producers' responsibility, according to Jennifer Dubin, co-founder of Present Pictures, who offered some timely advice at a LifeRaft event on independent film producing hosted by the SAG Foundation. "As the producer, the buck stops with you," she said Wednesday. "You have to be the one who's not afraid to speak up." Jones, a camera assistant, died in Georgia last month after being hit by a train during a shoot. Jones' family has hired an attorney and is pursuing legal action. Xyz Films announces that it has picked up worldwide sales rights to writer/director Christopher Denham’s latest horror/thriller, Preservation, starring Wrenn Schmidt ("Boardwalk Empire"), Aaron Staton ("Mad Men"), and Pablo Schreiber (HBO's upcoming "The Brink," "Orange Is the New Black").
Jennifer Dubin and Cora Olson of Present Pictures are producing, with executive producing duties handled by Connie Cummings and Anne Renton of Certainty Films. Preservation will be introduced to buyers by Xyz Films at the European Film Market in February.

Christopher Denham is a force to be reckoned with. He started in the business as an actor, in April was hired to write a script for reigning micro-budget king Jason Blum, and beginning this month will direct psychological horror/thriller Preservation in the Los Angeles area.
Starring in the film are Aaron Staton ("Mad Men"'s Ken Cosgrove), Pablo Schreiber (pictured; "The Wire," "Weeds," "Orange Is the New Black"), and Wrenn Schmidt ("Boardwalk Empire"). Staton and Schreiber are playing brothers on a hunting trip in the Midwestern woods.
Denham (who appeared in Argo, The Bay, "The Following," and Shutter Island, among others) wrote the script; Jennifer Dubin and Cora Olson are producing through Present Pictures.

The Cannes Producer’s Network, a week-long immersion program, runs concurrently with the Cannes International Film Festival in May. The program is specifically designed for experienced producers looking to build their international networks and share expertise on the international production, financing, and packaging marketplace. Recent participants have included Howard Gertler (Shortbus), Anita Onadine & Lance Weiler (Head Trauma, Pandemic), Mike Ryan (Choke), Susan Stover (Laurel Canyon), and Ron Simons (Gun Hill Road, Night Catches Us).
