Life After The Neverending Story is seeking funds now, and will explore 1984’s The Neverending Story.
Those who’ve watched Wolfgang Petersen’s 1984 family movie The Neverending Story will know all about one particularly traumatic sequence contained within it. No spoilers, but those of us who watched the film at a certain age know the moment we’re talking about. It almost makes Return To Oz look approachable.
Still, the aptly-named film – sequels did indeed follow – was an unusual production and a sizeable hit. A German film that found international favour, and a hit single too, it’s a genuine curiosity, and also a film that still stacks up.
Well, certainly the makers behind a new documentary hope so. Lisa Downs, a British filmmaker, is making Life After The Neverending Story, and she’s currently fundraising for the film.

Bryce Dallas Howard is set to direct and produce Walt Disney Studios’ reboot of “Flight of the Navigator,” which reimagines the original 1986 film with a female lead. The new movie, which marks Howard’s feature directorial debut, is slated to premiere exclusively on Disney Plus.
The original “Flight of the Navigator” was directed by Randal Kleiser and written by Mark H. Baker, Michael Burton and Matt MacManus. The family sci-fi adventure film followed 12-year-old David Freeman (Joey Cramer), who goes unconscious after falling down in the woods, only to get abducted by an alien spaceship that transports him from 1978 to 1986. David spends the film trying to reunite with his family, but gets entangled with the police and NASA along the way.
The filmmaker will produce the reboot alongside Justin Springer and John Swartz, who is Howard’s partner at her production company Nine Muses. Howard’s movie will not be...

Disney Studios is developing a reimagining of its 1986 sci-fi live action feature Flight of the Navigator with a female lead, a project that Bryce Dallas Howard is attached to direct and produce for Disney+.
The original movie, starring Joey Cramer, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Veronica Cartwright, follows a boy who travels eight years into the future from 1978 and has an adventure with an intelligent, wisecracking alien ship, named Max. Paul Reubens provided the voice of Max in the film which was released in late July 1986 grossing an uninflated $18.6M at the domestic B.O. Randal Kleiser, who had directed Paramount’s big hit Grease, and The Blue Lagoon, directed the original Flight of the Navigator off a screenplay by Michael Burton and Phil Joanou.
John Swartz, Howard’s partner at her production company Nine Muses, and Justin Springer are also producing.

To celebrate the release of Life After The Navigator, the new documentary from acclaimed filmmaker Lisa Downs, we sat down with the star and director of Disney’s classic sci-fi adventure, Flight of the Navigator.
First released in 1986, the film was directed by Randal Kleiser (Grease) and starred Joey Cramer as David Scott Freeman, a young man who awakens after falling into a ravine to discover that eight years have passed. In their investigations, NASA and the government find an alien spaceship crashed landed and that, somehow, is intertwined with David and his disappearance.
While the film wasn’t a huge box office success on its initial release, it has endured to become one the most beloved films of its kind of the 1980s. We spoke to Kleiser and Cramer about the film, its legacy and continued impact through DVD, Blu-ray, and now Disney+, and their lives after the film.

"Where the hell have you been, Barry?" Rock Salt has released an early promo trailer for a totally insane indie horror comedy titled Fried Barry, made in South Africa by a British filmmaker making his feature directorial debut after numerous music videos. This premiered at the Cinequest Film Festival and is playing at tons of other genre festivals this year. "The movie that breaks all the rules." Fried Barry is a bizarre tale told in a genre-bending onslaught of sex, drugs and violence. A spectacle that pulls you in and won’t let go as every expectation is subverted in this boundary-pushing tale of alien abduction. An alien assumes control of a drug addict's body and takes it on a bizarre joyride through Cape Town. Starring Gary Green as Barry, plus Brett Williams, Joey Cramer, Sean Cameron Michael, Steve Wall, Hakeem Kae-Kazim, and Tamer Burjaq. Casting this super weird lookin'...

I grew up with Flight of the Navigator. It’s always been one of my favourite movies. A family sci-fi adventure film that kinda fell under the radar to some degree and has since become a cult classic. It’s charming, it’s funny, it’s nostalgic as hell and it’s incredibly entertaining, so I was completely and utterly on board when Second Sight announced their upcoming Blu-ray release. A limited edition release with special features, extra goodies and a new transfer? Fans are very happy. I had a chance to take a look at the blu-ray release and here are my thoughts on it, as well as my opinions, all these years later, on the film itself.

Late 1984 saw two killer robot movies make their debut in Us cinemas. You've probably heard of the first one, released in October: The Terminator, the film that launched the career of James Cameron and cemented Arnold Schwarzenegger's status as a movie star.
The second was Runaway, another sci-fi thriller that, in theory, could have been the bigger hit. It starred Tom Selleck and Kiss singer-bassist Gene Simmons. It was written and directed by Michael Crichton, the director of the superb Westworld and writer of such best-selling novels as The Andromeda Strain and The Terminal Man, both adapted into great films. Six years after Runaway, Crichton would write Jurassic Park, a book that is still sending ripples through pop culture today.

Colin Trevorrow‘s name has now become synonymous with the Star Wars brand, purely because he was rumored to be directing the next installment for, like, a week, and nobody really knew him before all that. The Safety Not Guaranteed director caused a bit of a stir when he announced that he was working on something for Disney, see, something from our childhood that he didn’t want to mess up. And though the internet pounced on that revelation and starting shouting “Star Wars, Star Wars, Star Wars” until it just became a blur of noise, it turned out the internet was wrong. Again.
But Trevorrow wasn’t making things up, at least, because he is working on something from our childhood, although I’m not sure that it’s definitely something we all love: Flight of the Navigator, anyone? Yes, Disney are reportedly remaking the 1986 film about a boy and his spacecraft,...

Remember the name Colin Trevorrow? We reported a while ago about him being the possible Star Wars: Episode VII helmer and now, after weeks and weeks of rumors, news is now out that he is not taking on Star Wars, but is instead taking on another beloved-nostalgic cinema classic – Flight of the Navigator.
According to Variety, director Colin Trevorrow and screenwriter Derek Connolly, who worked together on this year’s indie Safety Not Guaranteed, have been hired by Disney to (at least) co-rewrite the script for one of my personal childhood favorites.
The report says that, while Trevorrow and Connolly have been hired to rewrite the script (originally written by Brad Copeland), they also add it’s being developed “as a potential directing vehicle for Trevorrow.”
Which means he’s not confirmed yet, and will likely develop this until/if Disney is satisfied with their version enough to give it a green light.

Sick of being asked questions about his most famous role – Biff Tannen in the Back to the Future trilogy – he simply hands it out to inquisitive fans and walks away. It's a win-win: they get to discover facts such as "Michael J Fox is nice. I'm not in close contact with him", "I made less money than you'd think" and "I don't talk about the movies much because I'm busy with standup comedy and music performances." In turn, he gets to save his breath. It's an ingenious tactic and, as a way to escape your most notorious role, much less labour intensive than the efforts of other actors.

As a young lad, Flight of the Navigator was one of my favorite movies. Its adventurous tale of time travel, world travel and space travel all through the eyes of a 12-year-old boy was undeniably entertaining and as the years wore on, my fondness for the film only grew. To be honest, I don't remember the first time I saw the movie. Chances are it happened on VHS or on The Wonderful World of Disney as the film was a box office bomb, opening at #9 and grossing only $18.5 million total. Watching the tale of Davey and Max, an odd couple in the middle of a massive mystery, a quarter century after its release only cemented the fact that director Randal Kleiser made a classic movie back in 1986. One that still hold up on this, its silver anniversary. A few things immediately stand out when you pop in a copy of...

Watch Flight of the Navigator (1986) Movie Free Online. Randal Kleiser‘s Flight of the Navigator stars Joey Cramer, Paul Reubens, Veronica Cartwright, Cliff DeYoung, and Sarah Jessica Parker. Flight of the Navigator‘s plot synopsis: “a 12-year-old boy named David who is abducted by an alien space craft [in 1978, only to reappear once more in 1986. In the eight years that have passed, David hasn't aged. He] …finds himself caught in a world which has changed around him.”
This is one of those films that dazzled the imagination – if you were near or at the ago of the protagonist – when the film was released: the special effects were that good and still hold up today. The viewer wanted to be in David (Joey Cramer)’s shoes, at least for part of the film e.g. when he is aboard the “Trimaxian Drone Ship from the planet Phaelon”.
I heard that Walt Disney Pictures may remake Flight of the Navigator. The effects would certainly benefit from that but I do...

As Skyline prepares to invade cinemas, we look back at more than 30 years of the best and worst alien abduction movies...
Do aliens really hover in our skies, waiting to kidnap us for their own unfathomable ends? Ever since the case of Us couple Betty and Barney Hill became widely publicised in the mid-60s, hundreds of people have come forward with similar claims of extraterrestrial abduction, missing time, strange medical examinations and grey-skinned extraterrestrials
And while psychologists and ufologists disagree on the reality of such claims, the theme of alien abduction has been revisited several times by filmmakers since the late 70s. And as this list demonstrates, the results of such films can be decidedly mixed...

Top Ten Time Travel Movies
Deciding where to begin with a list of my top ten time travel movies wasn't very hard. I had a handful of films already in mind when I started, as with most any list of this sort, the films I watched as I was growing up had a profound effect on me and therefore always effect the way lists such as this turn out. However, before I felt I could do a proper list there was much more than simply the films I've watched over my lifetime to consider. In order to be thorough I had to look elsewhere and at films I had yet to see.
On top of figuring out my favorites I also had to figure out whether some films should even be classified as "time travel movies." Take Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004) for instance. Throughout the entire film...

Carrie Bradshaw will forever be her most identifiable role, but remember Sarah Jessica Parker before Sex and the City? No, not in Striking Distance. Even before that. Back when she seemed so free-spirited and kinda cool -- as much for the boys as the girls. The era when she appeared in dance movies like Girls Just Want to Have Fun and Footloose and when she showed up with awesome '80s hair as an intern in Flight of the Navigator. She was only in that movie for a few minutes, but she left an impression on my young mind, enough that I was really hoping the film would end with David (Joey Cramer) meeting the younger version of Parker's character after he returns to 1978.
Well, after that breakthrough period, she did some TV work before returning to the big screen for what I consider her most memorable performance, in the Steve Martin comedy L.A. Story.

Disney is preparing a remake of 1986 science fiction adventure Flight of the Navigator. Brad Copeland (Wild Hogs) is writing the updated script.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, executive producer John Hyde filled the same role for the first version.
The original movie centered on a 12-year-old boy (Joey Cramer) who is abducted by an alien spacecraft. The ship only removed him from Earth for a few hours, but when he returns to his home 8 years has passed and he’s still only 12. When Nasa discovers the connection between the boy’s strange situation and a captured UFO, they try to exploit him for the data stored in his brain. The boy escapes with the ship and tries to reunite with his family.
Cramer retired from acting shortly after Navigator. The movie also featured Sarah Jessica Parker and the voice of Paul Ruebens (a.k.a. Pee Wee Herman).

Are any of you readers actually old enough to remember seeing Disney’s “Flight of the Navigator” (1985) in theaters? I am, and I did. It was one of those childhood sci-fi classics for me, like “SpaceCamp” or “Explorers.” I can’t really imagine a remake, but AI ‘navigator’ Max (voiced by Paul Reubens in the original) certainly gives the warbling Wall-e a run for his money in the lovable robot department.
The Hollywood Reporter revealed this morning that Disney is returning once again to the story of a boy and his pet alien spacecraft. In the original, young David Freeman (Joey Cramer) disappears for eight years. He is found near the site of a crashed alien spaceship, having not aged a day and with no memory of the intervening years. A series of events subsequently leads David to board the ship, where he learns from the robot navigator Max that...

The development bods at the Mouse House have been digging through the kid pic files again – and have seized on Flight Of The Navigator for its latest remake. The 1986 film saw Joey Cramer as David Freeman, a 12-year-old kid snatched by an alien spaceship in 1978, only to crop up eight years later with zero memory of his time aboard. Naughty Nasa types try to use his link with the ship to get access, but he escapes with the vessel and, helped by its alien pilot Max (voiced by Pee Wee Herman), tries to locate his family. While...

Disney is developing a remake of the 1986 sci-fi adventure movie Flight of the Navigator. Brad Copeland has signed on to write the screenplay and John Hyde, who executive produced the first one, will be back to produce. The original told the story of a 12-year-old boy who is abducted by an alien spacecraft in 1978 and reappears eight years later, still the same age and with no memory of what happened. Nasa scientists discover a connection between the boy and a downed spacecraft and try to exploit the boy, who ultimately escapes with the ship and attempts to reunite with his family. The movie grossed only $17 million when it was released but was later rediscovered on VHS, becoming a cult hit. It was directed by Randal Kleiser (Grease) and starred Joey Cramer, Paul Reubens, Veronica Cartwright, Cliff De Young and Sarah Jessica Parker. Copeland previously wrote Wild Hogs for Disney and is writing Nightcrawlers at Warners.

Another day, another remake. Disney is readying another launch of the sci-fi adventure movie Flight of the Navigator. The original film came out in 1986 and starred Joey Cramer as a boy who takes command over an alien spaceship and goes joyriding around the world. Disney has hired Wild Hogs screenwriter Brad Copeland to write the new script, but they haven't chosen a director yet. John Hyde, who executive produced the first one, will return in the same role this time as well. If this turns out anything like the Race to Witch Mountain remake (which was a classic Disney sci-fi from 1975 modernized), then I will be quite upset. Flight of the Navigator was made fairly inexpensively and only grossed $18 million in its theatrical run, becoming a bigger hit on VHS. I'm expecting Disney to pump some money into this, as it probably needs to be big and flashy ...

This week's "Race to Witch Mountain," starring Dwayne Johnson and Carla Gugino, is the latest remake-- ahem, modern reimagining from Walt Disney Studios. Though the Mouse House's animated classics remain sacrosanct (if the jumping-off point of direct-to-dvd sequels), the live-action library has been pillaged for endless redos intended for theaters or the Disney Channel, which is where a previous remake of "Escape to Witch Mountain" starring Robert Vaughn and Brad Dourif premiered in 1995. Nothing is safe from the remake button over at Disney, so here are four more properties we fully expect to receive the same treatment in the near future, and proposals on how best to bring the projects into the 21st century. The only reason the immortally cheesy "Tron" didn't make the list is because they're already shooting a sequel.
