Stephen Fry has said that he doesn’t want to condemn Jk Rowling for her views on transgender people, despite them making his friends being “deeply upset”.
Since criticising an article for using the term “people who menstruate” in 2020, Ms Rowling has repeatedly been accused of transphobia. She has denied the accusations.
However, many stars of the Harry Potter films, including Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson, have spoken out in support of the trans community in the wake of her remarks.
Appearing on Roger Bolton’s Beeb Watch podcast on Friday, former Qi host Mr Fry was asked if he’d considered joining the “debate” about Rowling’s comments and the Harry Potter cast’s responses.
“I’m aware you’re talking about an issue where two sides are very sore and very anxious about their enemies,” he said. “I can’t bear it.”

London, Mar h 28: Parental perfection is enough to make every mum feel jealous, suggests a new study that found that a third of mums are jealous of other mums.
Sara Cox, who conducted a survey on mums, has found that the biggest reason to why mums are jealous of other mums is "well-behaved kids", the Sun reported.
Cox said that sometimes, as a friend's kid is rubbing pasta sauce in his hair while rolling on the restaurant floor with his bum out and mooing like a cow, she has noticed their mum glancing at her kids, who were sitting there quietly eating their greens, and a glint of envy briefly flashes in her eyes.
She said that children's behaviour is like a well-stocked playground - it's all swings and roundabouts.

Radio One Breakfast Show presenter Chris Moyles has shocked listeners this morning with the announcement that he is leaving the show after eight and a half years. He told listeners that he will leave at the end of September, earlier than expected with his contract not set to end until New Year 2014.
The decision to let the 38-year-old Leeds-native leave comes as the BBC have been pressurised to make the station appeal to a younger demographic, as a recent BBC Trust report found that the station needed to do more in order to attract listeners under the age of 30. Research last November suggested that the average Radio 1 listener was 32 and 33 during the breakfast show.
BBC Radio 2 DJ Chris Evans, who presents the breakfast show, had suggested as far back as 2010 that Moyles was too old for the targeted audience:
’It’s time for him to leave. Chris has got to go somewhere else.

Themed day gave undue prominence to release of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, BBC Trust rules
A Harry Potter-themed day on BBC Radio 1 gave undue prominence to the film and breached editorial guidelines, the BBC Trust ruled today.
The station's Harry Potter Day was timed to coincide with the cinema release of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince last year.
Coverage ran across four programmes, including The Chris Moyles breakfast show, while Radio 1 broadcast 33 trails promoting the day across 12-and-a-half hours of airtime.
Andrew Harrison, the chief executive of commercial radio trade body Radio Centre, which made the complaint, said the BBC had "fallen under the spell of celebrity" and was "selling listeners short".
It is the third time in the past 15 months that Radio 1 has been censured for too heavily endorsing a commercial product following complaints about its coverage of Coldplay's Viva La Vida tour and a corporation-wide...
