Note: The following story contains spoilers for “The Rookie” Season 6 finale, “Escape Plan.”
“The Rookie‘s” strike-shortened Season 6 came to a close Tuesday night with the action-packed tenth episode, “Escape Plan.” Plus, it might have nudged the door open for a step forward in the fan-favorite relationship between Lucy Chen (Melissa O’Neil) and Tim Bradford (Eric Winter).
Though the duo didn’t re-spark their romance in the finale, which focused on the takedown of Monica (Bridget Regan) and Dr. Blair London (Danielle Campbell), there were still some major moments for #Chenford, as the fandom has lovingly dubbed the pair. Those moments included a heroic sequence for Lucy in the heat of action, as well as a quieter, more emotional elevator scene later in the episode, which series creator Alexi Hawley called “the most important step for the future.”
Before he looked toward what’s next, Hawley contended with the past.

When a reliable performer like The Rookie, which has always been on the fall schedule if not delayed by a pandemic or strike, is suddenly not in a network’s starting lineup for the season, fans understandably would be worried.
Magnifying their concerns is the fact that The Rookie is headed into its seventh season, which is when a lot of broadcast series are canceled these days, including two ABC dramas, Station 19 and The Good Doctor, this year.
Meanwhile, Will Trent, which launched in midseason two years ago, had its first chance to get on the ABC fall schedule but didn’t get it.
Keeping the two dramas on the bench does not signal a lack of confidence in them.
“The opposite,” Disney TV Group President Craig Erwich told Deadline in an interview tied to the Disney upfront presentation.

Well, The Rookie sure knows how to cram in the maximum amount of stress and pain in 45 minutes or less!
To say The Rookie Season 6 Episode 8 was an adrenaline-inducing, nail-biter, filled to the brim with revelations, badassery, and soul-crushing moments would be an understatement.
While we already knew Monica, the second most interesting redhead to grace this series, was shady as willow tree in July, learning that she's working alongside Blair was a shock.
But that's not to say most of us weren't suspicious of Blair initially.
The Rookie tips its hat as a procedural because it can be formulaic despite all the unpredictable and intense moments.
One thing consistent about this series is that when they introduce a new recurring side character, nine times out of 10, that person is a Baddie or at least adjacent to some nefarious things.
Blair has been high on everyone's suspect list since she...

Just like the first season, James Gunn has written every episode of Peacemaker season 2, but he won’t be able to direct as many this time around as he’s in the midst of directing Superman. “Yes, I’ve written all the episodes; but, no, in the interest of getting the show out there I won’t be able to direct them all (only some),” Gunn said last month. He added that that will be “three other great directors joining me for the season.“

Is there such a thing as too much exposure?
After going all out in the promotional campaign for 9-1-1’s move from Fox, ABC has a compelling new way to promote the show on the horizon.
According to People, the series is headed to Bachelor Mansion from The Bachelor.
While we doubt there will be any faces from the hit dating format, the mansion is the setting for some of the series’ biggest events, so that alone is pretty cool.
“There’s a really fun emergency, and it’s not necessarily the biggest in terms of spectacle, but in the fifth episode of the season, there’s one that kind of touches base with another ABC show,” 9-1-1’s Oliver Stark told the outlet.
“I’m really excited for that just because I think it will be a good watch.”

Nolan can never have a regular anything.
It was a hellish honeymoon for him and his new wife on The Rookie Season 6 Episode 3, providing a heaping dose of humor for an hour that felt mostly like filler.
And Lucy's aspirations stalled to our displeasure.
Things have settled down after the excitement and fun of the season premiere and big 100-episode celebration.
While there was some fun in this installment with the honeymoon antics, and we got that blow for Lucy Chen with the results of her long-awaited detective's exam, it was an understated hour.
And only a little forward movement happened with the plot.
One of the standouts from John Nolan and Bailey's honeymoon was the fantastic camera work utilized to depict the various surveillance Nolan brought for the trip.
I love it when this series plays with cinematography and other things.

Actor Nathan Fillion has worked with a few notable guest stars during his time with The Rookie cast. But there was one guest star who he surprised with his new attitude.

Fillion has been a part of some of television’s most critically praised shows. Before The Rookie, he was known for playing millionaire author Richard Castle in the titular series Castle. Canadian-American actor Nathan Fillion is popularly known for portraying the character of Captain Malcolm Reynolds on Firefly, and starring as Richard Castle on Castle. The actor is regarded as one of the finest actors in the entertainment industry who in 2018 starred as John Nolan on The Rookie; a police procedural crime drama series.

The show is based on real-life LAPD officer William Norcross who joined the department in his mid-40s in 2015. Actor Nathan Fillion has played The Rookie‘s John Nolan almost as long as he’s played mystery writer Richard Castle. Although he held both roles in high regard, there was a reason why he’d hang out with John Nolan over the latter.

Fillion’s John Nolan and Richard Castle already had one thing in common, as the two characters both dedicated themselves to solving crimes. But that was where the similarities mostly ended. In Castle, Fillion played a mystery crime writer who helps police officers investigate grisly murders. Meanwhile, The Rookie found Fillion playing a middle-aged police officer who developed a sudden passion for making a difference. The Rookie was also based on a true story, whereas Castle was entirely fictional.

There’s some confusion flying circles around James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy, with Egyptian-born entertainer Bassem Youseff saying he was fired from the project after showing support for Palestine during a Piers Morgan interview. According to Youseff, DC Studios offered him a role as a villain in the upcoming superhero spectacle. The official reason given for Youseff getting pulled from the cast list is a script change, but “the Jon Stewart of the Middle East” says the missed opportunity aligns with him showing support for Palestine in an interview.
However, a source close to the production says Youseff’s timeline of events needs to be corrected. The source says the decision to pass on Youseff’s involvement happened before the Piers Morgan interview.

James Gunn didn’t take long to decide on his new Supergirl as The Wrap reports that House of the Dragon star Milly Alcock is now in talks to take on the role.
It’s expected that Supergirl will make her debut in a future Dcu project, and while it’s been assumed that the project will be Superman: Legacy, it could easily be something else. Milly Alcock will then take on the leading role in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. THR adds that the movie could start shooting as early as this fall, assuming Warner Bros. is able to sign a director soon.
Milly Alcock was first reported to be up for the role earlier this month alongside Emilia Jones (Locke & Key), and Meg Donnelly (The Winchesters). Just last week, it was revealed that the list had been narrowed down to Alcock and Donnelly. Hollywood works fast… sometimes. Gunn confirmed the news on Instagram,...

According to Deadline, DC Studios are preparing to begin the testing process for the role of Supergirl in the DC Universe. In the mix are Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon), Emilia Jones (Locke & Key), and Meg Donnelly (The Winchesters).
Deadline’s report states that the Supergirl testing will take place sometime in the next month, with James Gunn definitely playing a part in the process. The character is set to take the lead of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, but there’s the chance she could make an appearance in another DC project, which is why the studio wants to sign an actress sooner rather than later. We all know how this process goes, so take this all with a grain of salt; while these actresses could wind up testing for the role, it could easily land in someone else’s lap.

Update: James Gunn is denying THR’s report that Pom Klementieff and Mariam Shor have joined Superman: Legacy. “Despite Pom being one of my favorite actors to work with, this is 100% not true,” Gunn wrote on Threads. “Not only is Pom not in the movie, but no one has ever even discussed her being in the movie, nor do I have any idea what role she would possibly play.” As for Miriam Shor, Gunn said that he’d “like to find a place for Miriam in the Dcu, maybe even in Legacy, but she isn’t presently cast in anything.“

Recently, Gunn posted a photo of his production office that showcases a wall full of art from Superman: For All Seasons, and fans got a glimpse of David Corenswet as he works his way to a Superman build in a photo posted by his trainer.

Nicholas Hoult may not have won the role of Superman, but Deadline reports that he’s set to play iconic villain Lex Luthor in James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy.
When James Gunn began auditioning actors for the role of Clark Kent/Superman, Nicholas Hoult was one of those who screen-tested. While he obviously didn’t get the role, there were rumblings that he was also being considered for Lex Luthor. I know Nicholas Hoult has pursued plenty of superhero roles in the past, but honestly, I think Lex Luthor is a much better fit for the actor, who thrives with quirkier, darker roles.

The TV show The Rookie has been one of the most enjoyable projects Nathan Fillion has ever been cast in. But if there was one drawback the show had, it was making Fillion feel his age.
Nathan Fillion sometimes found it hard to physically keep up with ‘The Rookie’ Nathan Fillion | Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic
Fillion and his Rookie character John Nolan had a few overlapping similarities. The Rookie is about a middle-aged man at a crossroads in his life, and because of this, pursues a career in law enforcement. But being a novice police officer in his 40s can come with more than a few challenges.
Fillion’s John Nolan has to keep up with his younger, fitter peers when it comes to the more physically demanding aspects of his work. But in an interview with Jacksonville, Fillion shared that he sometimes experienced these physical challenges in real life. The...

Just because David Corenswet is a decade younger than Henry Cavill doesn’t mean that James Gunn is planning on making a young Superman movie, taking to social media to dispel whatever rumors there may be that the upcoming Superman: Legacy would purposefully focus on the age aspect of Clark Kent.
This week, James Gunn replied to a follower on Threads, “I was never making a “young Superman” movie, just a Superman movie!” For comparison, Corenswet turned 30 last month, while Cavil is now 40, although that doesn’t necessarily dictate the timeline. Still, as The Hollywood Reporter pointed out, James Gunn did say last year that the new Superman movie “will be focusing on an earlier part of Superman’s life.”

Fire Country's freshman season is still burning brightly for CBS, but details about Fire Country Season 2 are already spilling out.
With a possible writers and directors strike on the horizon, the show will likely return to production sooner to bank some episodes for the fall.
But let's get to who's joining the cast of the second season of the red-hot drama.
Deadline broke the news Monday that Rebecca Mader is set for a key recurring role on Fire Country Season 2.
Mader will play Faye.
"Smart, stunning, funny and rich, Faye is the head of a private concierge firefighting company, and when she meets Manny (Kevin Alejandro) at an AA meeting, there's a romantic spark," reads the character description.
"Faye wants to recruit him for her firm and a romantic fling. Manny likes his job, but doesn't much like being alone, so Faye will have to settle for achieving fifty percent of her goals.

ABC‘s The Rookie has gone through its fair share of casting changes over its five seasons. Recurring characters have come and gone, while a few series regulars have bid farewell to the show. And the first main character to leave The Rookie was Zoe Andersen, played by Mercedes Mason.

The Rookie introduced Mercedes Mason as Captain Zoe Andersen during the series premiere. She was the captain of the Mid-Wilshire police station and is the one who requested John Nolan be on her squad. Nolan was the oldest rookie in the Los Angeles Police Department, and so few people had faith that he could successfully do his job as a cop. However, Zoe believed in him.
Before becoming a captain, Zoe was in the Marine Corps, serving with the military police.

ABC‘s The Rookie has never shied away from killing off some of the show’s main characters — see Zoe in season 1 and Jackson in season 4. And it looks like there’s cause for concern for Bailey Nune, played by Jenna Dewan, in The Rookie Season 5 Episode 14.
Jenna Dewan as Bailey Nune and Nathan Fillion as John Nolan | ABC/Raymond Liu When does ‘The Rookie’ Season 5 Episode 14 air?
The Rookie Season 5 Episode 14, “Death Sentence,” premieres on Tuesday, Jan. 31.
The synopsis for “Death Sentence” reads, “Officer John Nolan and Bailey are on the hunt for a mystery gunman after a shooting hits a little too close to home. Meanwhile, Aaron struggles to live within his means and joins Lucy to help Tamara when the mother of...

Chenford is really happening! The couple that shippers have been rooting for since The Rookie Season 1 is finally planning on going on a date!
Oh, and the winter finale had some other things, too, like neck bombs, Grey's daughter being abducted, and a creepy clown.
Our TV Fanatics, Jasmine and Christine, are joined by The Rookie fan, Kate, to critique Lucy and Chris' breakup, their hopes for Chenford, if Nolan has better chemistry with Bailey or Genny (Tim's sister!), and much more...
Why do you think Lucy was dragging her feet over breaking up with Chris?
Jasmine: I don't really know. Fear, maybe? Guilt, too. I think she and Chris got more serious than she intended, and then the whole thing with Rosalind happened, and she would've felt guilty if she left him after that since he only sustained those injuries because of his connection to her.
Kate: I've been there.

From the pilot episode to the recent series finale, Judith Grimes has been a handy bellwether for how much time has passed in "The Walking Dead." She started out as just an embryo, the result of a dalliance between Lori Grimes and Shane Walsh. Judith was finally born in a rather traumatic episode of "The Walking Dead" season 3, and steadily grew into a toddler over the next few seasons. A six-year time jump in the middle of season 9 boosted her to nine years old, and by the time the show signed off with season 11's "Rest in Peace," Judith is approximately 11 or 12 years old.
She also has a little brother, Rick Grimes Jr. (aka Rj), the result of Rick Grimes Sr. and Michonne coupling up. As of the end of the series, however, Rick Sr. still has no idea that he has a son, since he was blown off a...
