It’s fitting that a song about doing it yourself is the only track in Rolling Stone‘s year-end Top 50 chart to be penned by a single writer. The song in question, Tones and I’s “Dance Monkey,” was inspired by busking, which is exactly what the Australian artist — born Toni Watson — quit her job to do for the sake of following her dream.

I sold my soul to Awolnation roughly two years ago once I saw Aaron Bruno’s music video for ”Burn It Down”. The video, which featured Sam Ronson and Willa Ford, epitomizes why VH1’s “Top 20 Countdown” and the slim amount of music videos shown on MTV should not become an extinct fad of the 80s and 90s. Developing imagery is key to popularizing a song and Awolnation has a knack for conveying just that. The outfit’s latest song,”Thiskidsnotalright” will be featured in the new video game, “Injustice: Gods Among Us”, which will be available everywhere April 16th. The video game’s soundtrack will be released digitally on the same day as [ Read More ]

You might not even know it, but you've probably heard and appreciated Awolnation's single "Sail" in commercials for Red Bull, The Good Wife, House, and more, and perhaps that owes a little bit to the commercial nature of the group's origins. Started as a partnership between Aaron Bruno (formerly of Under the Influence of Giants) and Red Bull's recording studio, just to see what would come of it, it has since blossomed into something pretty grand. In 2011, Bruno, along with Drew Stewart, Hayden Scott, David Amezcua, and Kenny Carkeet released Megalithic Symphony, and the rest is history (albeit one-year-old history).
Awolnation will kick off their fall tour in September, and you can check out the remaining dates below.

'There's a little chip on my shoulder,' frontman Aaron Bruno tells MTV News of writing the follow-up to the band's Megalithic Symphony.

Awolnation's Aaron Bruno already knows how he wants the follow-up to his band's breakout (and epically titled) Megalithic Symphony album to sound. The key now is finding the time to actually write it.
"I think the next record will be a little more raw, and a little more aggro, and a little stranger, but still have the nursery-rhyme feel of melody, because that's the only way I know how to write," he told MTV News. "I'm working on it now [while the band is on tour] and, really, it's the only thing keeping me sane. Every day I wake up, and I'm so excited to first of all find a shower, and then have a coffee, and then do a couple of other things that I probably can't mention,...

U2, Metallica, Nickelback and more battle it out in a heavyweight region. Voting in all first-round matchups is now live!

MTV's third-annual Musical March Madness tournament tipped off Monday, with voting opening in all first-round matchups.
But with a bracket busting with bands — 64 in all, each battling to hoist the championship trophy when the tournament ends April 3 — we realize that choosing your favorites in each contest can be a daunting task (unless your favorite happens to be Tokio Hotel — they're having no problem racking up the votes). After all, sometimes even the selection committee has a difficult time distinguishing between Awolnation and Five Finger Death Punch.
Vote for your favorite band, discuss and share on Facebook and Twitter in the MTV Musical March Madness interactive bracket!

ShockYa is forever indebted to Awolnation. The Aaron Bruno fronted group dropped it’s debut album, “Megalithic Symphony”, on March 15th, 2011, but the release date is irrelevant, since the full-length still sounds as refreshing as it did last Spring. If the outfit’s electro-rock sound isn’t as contagiously vivacious as it was for you in 2011 then the group will remind you with a live clip of the song, “Soul Wars”. Awolnation took to the stage to perform the track last year at La Zona Rosa in Austin, Texas. Took to the stage should be replaced with tore the stage up. Bruno simply commands the platform under his feet with his...

Awolnation has also given you, Shockya readers, another chance to see them work their indie-electronic magic live. The Aaron Bruno fronted outfit will be performing at Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival Sunday, April 14th and 21st in Indio CA, alongside such artists as Radiohead, Noel Gallagher, Feist, Kasabian and The Shins. Prior to Coachella, Awolnation will be going...

On the ShockYa list for the Top Ten Albums of 2011, which is coming soon, is Awolnation’s “Megalithic Symphony”. The 14 track debut album, which dropped March 15th via Red Bull Records, blended the indie rock vocals of Aaron Bruno with an electronic tempo. These synthesized background beats are complex and take to the darker side of the electronica genre. Pop-techno may not be everybody’s calling, but with albums like “Megalithic Symphony”, rock-techno could be the genre to proudly convert those to the eletronica side. So, thanks Awolnation for opening up the music doors to fans of more than one genre. Double that thanks because Awol has given you a...

'I feel lucky to be a songwriter that has an open mind to all different kinds of music,' frontman Aaron Bruno says of Megalithic Symphony.

Awolnation may be a play on frontman Aaron Bruno's childhood nickname, but according to him, it's far from a solo project.
"It's my vision, I suppose, but it's sort of uncomfortable for me to take full responsibility for it, because nothing is possible without the support of a team of people," said Bruno, formerly of such rock acts as Under the Influence of Giants and Hometown Hero.
Still, he remains instrumental in crafting the style-bending and -defying melodies, hooks and choruses featured throughout the group's debut album, Megalithic Symphony (listen to his singles, "Not Your Fault" and "Sail," for perfect takes on pop-punk and prog industrial, respectively).

Awolnation announced that they will be the musical guest on “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno” on Friday, October 28th at 11:35pm Central. In case you don’t remember the band’s sound, which would be a shame, just think synthetic pop glory with intricate tempos and aggressive vocals. The Aaron Bruno project dropped their debut album, “Megalithic Symphony” on March 15th via Red Bull Records. The album’s single, “Sail”, has been dominating the Alternative Songs charts for 36 weeks straight, peaking at #5 and is currently climbing the Active Rock chart. Click here to read some inside scoop about the album from Bruno, himself. After the Jay Leno appearance, Awolnation will...

We can never get enough of the tunes of Awolnation. Playing any track off of their debut album, ‘Megalithic Symphony’, immediately demands another replay. We credit this repetitiveness to the complex melodic arrangements of each track. Each listen unravels an entirely different rhythm, whether it’s due to the vocals or the instruments. Our ears crave to decipher every musical element of Awolnation. Still can’t imagine music to be this powerfully addictive? Well, hear it for yourselves and check out Awolnation’s performance of the song “Kill Your Heroes”, which is a track off of Megalithic Symphony, at La Zona Rosa in Austin, Texas. Aaron Bruno of Awolnation knows how to command...

“Sail” was the first tune we heard from Awolnation and that was all we needed to listen to, to know Awol will take the music scene by storm. The track off the group’s debut album, “Megalithic Symphony”, masters the sounds of pop-synthetic music. Lead singer, Aaron Bruno, has dominating vocals that positively reek of empowerment and build up strength as the synthetic tempo takes hold. You will probably feel content with listening to “Sail” numerous times a day, but Bruno has given you 15 other tracks off the album that deliver just as well, so avoid repetition and give them all chance. We promise you spreading the plays is well...

A few months ago, Awolnation was able to win our musically opinionated hearts over with the release of the track, “Sail.” One song was all we needed to hear to know that this band was what we had been waiting for since techno and synthetic music began to dominate the radio waves as either the sole genre of a track or the backing beat of another. Awolantion proved our initial judgment correct with the release of their debut album, “Megalithic Symphony”, which is available now and is currently streaming on their Facebook page. Just in case you forgot, Aaron Bruno is the frontman of Awolnation and to say he is...

Say hello to a band making its musical debut. Awolnation will be releasing their first full-length album, Megalithic Symphony, on March 15th. The American indie band with frontman, Aaron Bruno, dropped their Ep, Back From Earth, in May 2010 via Red Bull Records. Comprised of 4 tracks, Awolnatin’S Ep certainly had enough material to channel their unique sounds through to music fans. Their retro vibe is infused with seventies pop beats and contemporary electronic beats. We very much appreciate the bands that are able to fit into the world of modern techno music without losing the origins of that sound. And Awolnation is an indie band that certainly achieved our respect. The La-based [...]...
