The Ocean’s trilogy of movies is confirmed for 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray in the UK, with a release pencilled in for the end of April: more here.
Steven Soderbergh’s trilogy of Ocean’s films – Ocean’s 11, Ocean’s 12, Ocean’s 13 – brought together a starry ensemble cast for a trio of crime caper movies. Really successful ones at that, even if the sort-of twist in Ocean’s 12 continues to have a degree of Wtf did they really do that about it.
Ocean’s 11 in particular though is a an absolute treat, and there’s much to enjoy across the three films, which as coming to 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray in the UK for the first time.
Warner Bros is putting the films out, initially in posh Steelbook casing, and they’re set to debut on 29th April 2024. What’s more, you’ve got four different options if you’re...

On their own, they are among Hollywood’s best loved stars. Together, George Clooney and Julia Roberts — who play ex-spouses reunited in Bali for their daughter’s wedding in Ticket to Paradise, out Oct. 21 — have lit up the screen a few times.
Most recently was in 2016’s Money Monster, a Jodie Foster-helmed thriller about a cable news star taken hostage in his studio (Clooney is the star, Roberts his producer). Both had small parts in 2002’s Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, Clooney’s directorial debut. But their first — and, to date, most memorable — pairing came in 2001’s Ocean’s Eleven.
The Steven Soderbergh remake was loosely based on the Rat Pack film from 1960. In the modern version, Clooney plays Danny Ocean, a thief recently released from prison who wastes no time planning his next heist, simultaneously targeting the Bellagio, Mirage and MGM Grand casinos in Las Vegas.

MaryAnn’s quick take… Fun enough and diverting enough while you’re in the middle of it, but hints of something much richer and more satisfying dangle just out of its reach. I’m “biast” (pro): mostly like Steven Soderbergh’s films; love Adam Driver
I’m “biast” (con): nothing
(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)
Well, it’s no Ocean’s Eleven. But it does include a joke about how it’s no Ocean’s Eleven, so that makes it okay, I guess?
I confess that my disappointment over Logan Lucky might be bigger than the movie deserves. It’s fun enough and diverting enough while you’re in the middle of it, as long as you don’t think about it too much. I will probably never watch it again and not be sorry about that, but that is also true of many other movies,...

The biggest flub in Oscars history happened Sunday night — so how did the partygoers inside Lionsgate’s official La La Land Oscar viewing party react to the movie being mistakenly announced as best picture?
Much like the crowd inside the Dolby Theatre at the Hollywood & Highland Center, first there was celebration: The whole room at the Lionsgate party jumped up and cheered when Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway first announced La La Land as the winner.
When it was revealed just seconds later that Moonlight actually won the award, the room was suddenly filled with shocked gasps. The disastrous flub...

This year’s contenders for best adapted screenplay are quite the eclectic group based on their sources — something that can never be said for those competing for best original screenplay. When looking at this category’s past since the year 2000, can history dictate which type of adapted screenplays the Academy might be leaning toward at the 2017 Oscars?
This site’s namesake, The Hollywood Reporter’s Scott Feinberg, honed in on nine films considered either frontrunners (the first five) or major threats (the last four) in his latest check-in on the Oscar race: Moonlight, Lion, Fences, Arrival, Hacksaw Ridge, Nocturnal Animals, Sully, Silence, and Loving. Villains are just as important as heroes nowadays, especially in team-up movies. Back when the original Ocean's 11 was released in 1960, a villainous character named Duke Santos didn't even show up until after the lovable heroes had already pulled off their amazing casino heist. By the time Steven Soderbergh, George Clooney, Brad Pitt and company remade the movie as Ocean's Eleven in 2001, villains had become essential, so villainous casino owner Terry Benedict (Andy Garcia) became an integral element in the heist flick and also its sequel, Ocean's Twelve. The third installment, Ocean's Thirteen, featured nasty businessman Willy Bank (Al Pacino). Now that the primary heroines of spin-off movie Ocean's Eight have been assembled -- Sandra Bullock, Cate...

Hollywood has had a long love affair with the heist sub-genre. Dating as far back as the silent film era with 1928’s Alias Jimmy Valentine, and transcending various genres like westerns (The War Wagon), war (Kelly’s Heroes) and even animation (Toy Story 3), the heist has tantalized our fantasies and outsmarted our wits for decades. Whether it’s for the very last time before retirement, gathering the gang back together for a big payday or for the thrill of pulling off the perfect robbery, all heist films share one key element: commitment to a plan.

Exclusive: Mel Gibson is in talks to take on directing duties on Hacksaw Ridge, based on the true story of Desmond T Doss, the first conscientious objector in U.S. history to win the Congressional Medal of Honor. Andrew Garfield is also in discussions to play the lead role.
Doss was a U.S. Army medic who served in World War II during the Battle of Okinawa and refused to kill. President Truman awarded him the Medal of Honor for saving so many lives.
This is not a done deal yet, and Deadline understands that talks are moving forward delicately and slowly. If Gibson does step back into the director’s chair, the subject matter would seem to suit his tastes to a tee. Throughout his career in front of and behind the camera, Gibson has shown an abiding fascination with protagonists prepared to suffer for their principles but ultimately prevailing over hardship.

“I’m a goddamn American icon!”
Depending on where you stand on Ocean’s Twelve, Ocean’s Thirteen represents either a group of enormously famous actors going back to salvage the goodwill they squandered in the middle entry of the franchise, or that same group of actors going back to where it all started just to prove they can still pull one over on us. If you’re bothered by even the mention of Ocean’s Twelve, Ocean’s Thirteen may strike you as an unnecessary extension of a series that maybe should’ve been a one-film wonder, but it seems, at face value, to be a safer one, at that. Danny Ocean and his gang of cocksure criminals return to the Sunset Strip, this time to take down a Vegas casino...

“How old do you think I am?”
Ocean’s Twelve has a reputation that will always precede it; some have called it an anti-sequel, and publications like Entertainment Weekly have dubbed it one of the worst sequels of all time. Though both reactions are, perhaps, understandable, neither is remotely accurate. Ocean’s Twelve is an inherently self-aware sequel, possibly the most self-aware follow-up in modern history. What Steven Soderbergh, screenwriter George Nolfi (whose original script, Honor Among Thieves, was completely unrelated to Ocean’s Eleven and was sold initially before that remake had been released), and the slightly larger-than-before ensemble cast did was make a sequel to a critically and commercially lauded caper film that was wholly cognizant of the fact that it was a sequel to a critically and commercially lauded caper film. Ocean’s Twelve toys with audience expectations,...

Movie stars, as we know them, are not so much dead in 2013 as much as they’re no longer making movies. Celebrity has stretched far beyond film or television; people become famous now without having accomplished much of anything, just for being at the right place at the right time, or tweeting out the right scandalous photo to set afire the comments sections at TMZ or Perez Hilton. Though movies cost more than they used to—both to make and to partake—they are less frequently headlined by a man or woman whose very presence ensures bankability. A handful of movie stars remain, yet even someone like Robert Downey, Jr. can only guarantee a movie will make back its profit and then some when he’s donned his Iron Man suit.
The closest Western society has to movie stars these days don’t make movies that gross hundreds of millions...

The sound of the dice hitting the felt. The rattle and the sparkle of ice cubes in cocktail glasses and diamonds on collar bones. The steely gaze of the high roller and the ripple of playing cards. There’s a timeless glamour and appeal to casinos that carries all the way through from real life onto the big screen.
Lets take a look at some of the movies that capture the magic of the world’s glitziest pleasure palaces, and why exactly they get us so damn excited…
Ocean’s Eleven (2001)
This film brought the cool. A wily band of lovable rogues headed by charismatic charmer Danny Ocean (George Clooney), this movie’s heist-happy anti-heroes embark on a riotous and risky quest to steal over $150m from slimy casino tycoon Terry Benedict (Andy García), through a daring raid on a vault shared between three major casinos. This week’s “Question of the Week” on Jeff Bayer’s “Movie B.S.” podcast is inspired by Lawless, a film about three good ‘ol boys (played by Shia Labeouf, Tom Hardy, and Jason Clarke) in Virginia’s Franklin County whose bootleggin’ ways in the 1930s are trifled by dirty cops and powerful competition. (I reviewed the film, and you can read that review here!)
This week’s inquiry is, “What is your favorite moment of law-breaking in a movie?”
In my attempt to answer this question, I’m going to choose scenes that are my favorite because of the impression they’ve left on me. Some of these law-breaking moments are fun, some are serious, and some of them are never responded to with justice. These are scenes that left an impact concerning the control of power (or lack thereof), while...

All-purpose man Aaron Schneider — his credits range from director, to editor, to cinematographer and beyond — won the Best Short Film, Live Action Oscar in 2004 for Two Soldiers, but, for all intents and purposes, he didn’t truly burst onto the scene until 2009′s acclaimed Get Low, his feature-length directorial debut. At the time, many speculated that this film would bring Robert Duvall (and perhaps even Bill Murray in peak supporting form) his first Oscar nomination of the new century.
Alas, though, the film fell through the Academy cracks, probably in most part due to the film’s middle-of-the-year theatrical run — a time frame in which a subdued, quiet character study like this one is especially vulnerable to being overshadowed by prestige titles later in the year. Nevertheless, Schneider proved his Oscar was no fluke, creating a film that, despite, I’d argue, an uninventive screenplay, managed to survive on crisp...

Yesterday saw the release of The Town on Blu-Ray – a thriller that sees a group of Charlestown thieves rob a bank and take the manager hostage… a typical heist film that combines action and suspense in abundance. Films about robbers have been a staple of cinema for nearly 100 years, in fact the gangster film was an early success genre in Hollywood during the days of Edward G. Robinson and James Cagney.
Although the basic heist film narrative has proved to be popular worldwide, it has particularly flourished in the UK and France in particular, with a number of notable productions coming out of these countries. Below are ten heist films that combine the best elements of this sub genre, as we pit the U.S., U.K. and France against each other in a quest to find the best heist film out there!

Andy Garcia will lend his voice to an upcoming episode of The Simpsons, paying homage to the character he made famous in the Ocean's movie franchise, casino magnate Terry Benedict.
The veteran actor will portray... an evil book publisher?!? Explains producer Matt Selman to Entertainment Weekly:
“Homer and some people in Springfield have to perpetrate an Ocean’s Eleven–style heist in the non-Ocean’s Eleven world of children’s fantasy book publishing.”
This episode, titled "The Book Job," won't air until the fall.

Fans of The Simpsons, our advice to you is to run and hide: Andy Garcia is lending his voice to an episode of the animated comedy that winks at the Ocean’s Eleven franchise, EW has learned exclusively. In a playful nod to his Ocean’s character, menacing casino magnate Terry Benedict, the film actor guest stars as an evil children’s fantasy book publisher, says Simpsons executive producer Matt Selman, who reveals only this about the plot: “Homer and some people in Springfield have to perpetrate an Ocean’s Eleven–style heist in the non-Ocean’s Eleven world of children’s fantasy book publishing.

Everyone knows that 2009 was a bad year for most of us, at least financially speaking, and a great year for pictures. Boxoffice gross and ticket sales grew to more than $10 billion and 1.4 billion, respectively. Ticket sales were the most in five years, though that was below the modern record of 1.6 billion set in 2002.
As the movie business looks at the possible lessons of 2009 in hope of learning from them in 2010, here's what we know (until this year shows that we know something different):
-- When the going gets tough, the tough go to the movies;
-- The adult drama ("State of Play," "The Informant!") is over;
-- Not every toy, comic book and graphic novel works as a movie (see "Speed Racer," "Astro Boy");
-- Torture porn is done ("Saw");
-- There can be one too many vampire movies ("Daybreakers" -- even the undead have a shelf life);
-- And Sandra Bullock is back,...

Movie star Andy Garcia insist filming Ocean's Eleven was an actor's dream. The Carcia plays casino owner Terry Benedict in the remake co-starring George Clooney, Julia Roberts and Brad Pitt. Garcia says, "I'd go on the set - this is my casino. We were shooting in pit number five, which is sort of the high-end pit, and I'd look around and the place was packed not only with our extras, but beyond that, the casino was functioning so it was really, it was like an actor's dream." But Garcia says he never got a chance to gamble while he was there. "I like to play blackjack here and there, but it was odd that when I left, I said 'You know what? I never sat down at a table, '" he says. He adds, "I guess I was delusional enough to know that it was my casino - why would I sit down at my own table?"...
