Several dozen staffers have been let go at Disney’s film and visual effects units, including the Fox studio being absorbed into the company.
About 250 workers have been let go to date, a studio source tells Deadline.
Those exiting Fox include John Kilkenny, who headed visual effects; Fred Baron, Evp of feature production; Dana Belcastro, Evp of physical production; and Fred Chandler, Evp of post production. All of them had reported to Fox exec Emma Watts, who last week was confirmed as staying at the company via a new pact at Disney. The layoffs were implemented on Wednesday.
Also headed for the dustbin is a valuable Hollywood resource: the Fox Research Library. By the start of 2020, its collections will be folded into Disney’s archives. The library has served countless productions over the decades with period-specific information and details that informed all aspects of their look and feel.

Disney continued layoffs this week, cutting another several dozen employees at the studio and 20th Century Fox, which Disney acquired in March for $71.3 billion, an individual familiar with the layoffs told TheWrap.
The layoffs, which happened on Wednesday affected several key executives in the production and visual effects departments. At Fox, head of visual effects John Kilkenny, Evp of feature production Dana Belcastro, vice president of feature production Fred Baron, and Evp of postproduction Fred Chandler were all among those let go.
This is the fourth round of layoffs since Disney completed its acquisition of the bulk of Fox’s film and TV assets. In June, a few dozen employees were affected, although details of which departments within the studio’s film arm were hit were unclear.

The cuts bring the total number of film staffers laid off to roughly 250 people since Disney completed its $71.3 billion acquisition of much of 21st Century Fox.
While several analysts predicted thousands would be eliminated in the acquisition, only those 250 have exited so far.
Several key executives received pink slips on Tuesday as part of a wave of cuts that impacted primarily staff in the production and visual effects departments. On the Fox side, they include head of visual effects John Kilkenny, executive VP of feature production Fred Baron, executive VP of physical production Dana Belcastro and executive VP of post-production Fred Chandler. At its core, it's a case about money, but at each stage John Edwards's character also seems to be on trial. After 14 days of testimony in a Greensboro, N.C., courtroom, prosecutors on Thursday rested a case that both alleged criminal misuse of campaign funds and laid bare the implosion of a once-promising political figure. Even before the defense called its first witness, legal analysts said the prosecution's case was far from a slam-dunk. "They've shown in as many ways as possible that he was a bad guy who did terrible things," says former federal prosecutor Kieran Shanahan, who has followed the trial closely,...

John Edwards, expensively groomed former presidential candidate and bad liar, has been indicted “on federal campaign finance charges for allegedly using campaign donations to conceal an extramarital affair while he was running for the White House,” The Washington Post reports. Charges against him include conspiracy, false statements, and illegal campaign contributions. According to The New York Times, “Investigators have said that Mr. Edwards used more than $1 million from two top supporters, Rachel Mellon, a 100-year-old banking heiress, and Fred Baron, Mr. Edwards’s campaign finance chairman.” Hilariously, the federal trial is called “USA v. Johnny Reid Edwards,” which sounds like either a Fast and the Furious prequel or a minor Bruce Springsteen album.

Mansion hideaways, an alias, a sports car… In a bombshell interview on Friday's night's "20/20," John Edwards' former aide Andrew Young claimed that over a million dollars had been poured into the cover-up of Edwards' affair with ex-mistress Rielle Hunter. Young held hands with his wife Cheri as he told ABC News' Bob Woodruff about the expenses that allegedly went into keeping the then-pregnant Hunter out of the spotlight during Edwards' presidential campaign. "Money was no object. We were living in mansions, flying around in jets. It was like falling down a rabbit hole," Young said. "20/20" says Edwards' campaign finance chairman, the late Fred Baron, rented a $20,000-a-month Montecito ranch house for the Youngs and Hunter to live in while waiting for Hunter’s daughter with Edwards, Frances Quinn, to be born. Young claims he and Edwards also received a total of more than $700,000 in checks from Rachel "Bunny" Mellon,...
