Wonderstruck is a beautiful clockwork creation filled with intricate, delicate details, but a film where the parts are greater than the sum of the whole. Like an elaborate cuckoo clock or a old-fashioned doll’s house, it is packed to the roof with little flourishes and charmingly magical images that matter more than the story they are decorating.
Director Todd Haynes’ mystery/drama is divided into two stories of runaway children on a quest, one set in the 1920s and the other in the 1970s, but both taking place in New York and often in the same locations. In this adaptation of Brian Selznick’s young adult novel, the two children have their own mysteries to solve but the additional mystery is what links their two stories besides location. "We called it 'smack fu,'" Mike Colter says, before breaking into a wide grin. The smile on the face of the Luke Cage star is startling enough, given that the superhero at the center of the latest Marvel/Netflix collaboration spends most of the show's 13 episodes with a somber look on his face since, carrying the world on your ballistics-impervious broad shoulders is serious work. Listening to him discuss his character's brute-strength combat style while nimbly digging through a bowl of sugar cubes for his coffee only adds to the oddness.

Excitement for Netflix's new Marvel series "Jessica Jones" has reached a fever pitch, with the series finally, officially making its streaming debut today. Krysten Ritter, who plays the titular star, seems perfect for the part, but according to the actress, she initially wasn't thrilled with the pitch for the show.
In an interview with Vulture, Ritter described the "Jessica" audition process, and said that from the way her manager described the series, it sounded less than promising.
"The first pitch from my manager was terrible," Ritter recalled to Vulture. "I got a call, you know, 'Netflix wants to see you for this show, it's Marvel, it's a superhero show.' And I like to audition, so I was like, 'Okay, I'll go, but I'm never gonna get that.' My manager was like, 'No, no — it's not your typical superhero show. Your character's really bad at it.' After a handful of teasers, Netflix has finally released the first full trailer for its latest Marvel series, "Jessica Jones," and it looks even darker than we had previously imagined.
The clip opens with Jessica (Krysten Ritter) discussing her second life as a detective after she gives up her superhero abilities.
"A big part of the job is looking for the worst in people," she explains. "Turns out I excel at that."
The reason for that, as we learn through flashbacks, is that Jessica was once under the mind control spell of the villainous Kilgrave (David Tennant), a man whose evil, twisted ways seemingly know no bounds. Though the horrors he inflicted on Jessica (and made her inflict on others) are only suggested, it's clear that he's creepy as hell -- and still a danger to our heroine.
"The way I see it, being a hero just puts a target on your back,...

Netflix just released a bunch of new images from its upcoming Marvel series "Jessica Jones," giving fans their first look at the titular character and other key members of the series's supporting cast.
Krysten Ritter stars as the titular character, a former superhero who's renounced her powers after a tragic event. Now, she's working as a detective in New York City, though she's still attracting the attention of others with otherworldly abilities. Does that mean that Jessica herself will be pulled back into hero superhero orbit?
The short answer is probably yes, considering "Jones" is one of four planned Marvel series that Netflix is using to launch a team-up, "The Defenders." Luke Cage (Mike Colter) is dropping in on "Jones" before heading off to his own standalone series.
In the images that Netflix released, we see Jessica, Cage, David Tennant's villainous Kilgrave, Jessica's Bff Trish "Patsy" Walker (Rachael Taylor...

There are few actors in world cinema as recognisable as Richard Gere. The ‘Silver Fox’ of Hollywood has been in the industry for 40 years now, and actor returns now in stunning fashion, taking on the role of billionaire Robert Miller in upcoming financial thriller Arbitrage – and we were lucky to sit down and talk about it with the esteemed performer.
Nominated for a Golden Globe for his efforts, Gere plays a quite shady figure and we discuss how he approaches such a role, and how much fun playing a character like this can be. He also pays high compliments to the first-time filmmaker Nicholas Jarecki, while we also briefly touch upon the documentary he has no idea he ‘s supposed to currently be making.
Arbitrage is released in UK cinemas tomorrow 1st March.
If you missed it earlier, click here to see our interview with Director Nicholas Jarecki or here to see our review.

Considering Arbitrage marks the debut feature film for director Nicholas Jarecki, it’s an outstanding achievement, bringing together a host of Hollywood stars – such as Richard Gere, Susan Sarandon and Tim Roth – in his intelligent and compelling thriller. To mark the release of the said title, we were fortunate enough to sit down with the filmmaker himself.
Jarecki – who also wrote the screenplay – discusses his delight at working alongside his lead star Gere, admiting that nobody else could have tackled this intricate role quite as well. He also tells us what it was like to finally be out there directing after years of studying the vocation.
Arbitrage is released in UK cinemas tomorrow 1st March. Keep your eyes peeled for our Richard Gere interview which goes live in a couple of hours and read our review of Arbitrage here.

Chicago – The concept of crime and punishment is a goalpost that is constantly being moved. Justice becomes an discretionary circumstance, sold to the highest bidder. These are just a view of the happy themes in the new film “Arbitrage,” featuring Richard Gere, Susan Sarandon and Brit Marling.
Rating: 4.0/5.0
Most likely filmgoers will have to run to the dictionary to get the meaning of the title, but the definition becomes self-evident in the movie – “the buying and selling of commodities in different markets to take advantage of differing prices for the same asset.” Sound somewhat familiar? It’s the very descriptive that was partially responsible for the economic collapse of 2007-08, but in this film it’s played out through a tale of deception and justice bought-and-sold. This highly symbolic morality tale is filtered through the arbitrage trader portrayed by Richard Gere, who balances his fortunes on the edge of a knife,...

Chicago – Greta Gerwig is now being recognized in the movie universe, and has climbed a ladder from micro-budget independent (“Baghead”) to mainstream monstrosities (the “Arthur” remake). She takes the lead role in “Lola Versus,” and anchors a terrific story about “settling down” and the decisions behind that certain time of life.
Rating: 4.0/5.0
This is somewhat of a romantic comedy, if trying to love one’s self can be considered romantic. Gerwig hits the right notes as Lola, a 29 year-old woman experiencing a reversal of fortune in a tumultuous year. It’s that edge of turning 30 that defines her circumstance, and the supporting characters around her both contribute to and share in that dilemma. The resulting story is honest, snappy, poignant and sweet, as men and women clueless to their own needs and desires try to navigate the chemistry of relationships.

Asghar Farhadi's A Separation, Margaret's Anna Paquin (photo), Weekend's Tom Cullen, and The Tree of Life's Terrence Malick and Brad Pitt were some of the winners of the 2012 International Cinephile Society Awards. The honors are announced by "an online group made up of approximately 80 accredited journalists, film scholars, historians and other industry professionals who cover film festivals and events on five continents." And cinephiles they clearly are; some of their choices would put the U.S.-based National Society of Film Critics to shame. [Full list of International Cinephile Society winners and runners-up.] Writer-director Farhadi's Iranian family drama A Separation, which is up for the Best Foreign Language Film and Best Original Screenplay Academy Awards, won as Best Picture of 2011, in addition to Best Film Not in the English Language, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Ensemble (including Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress runners-up Peyman Moaadi and Shahab Hosseini). Farhadi was also the runner-up for Best Director.

Chicago – New York City. Mid-day. A man steps outside the window on the edge of the Roosevelt Hotel. Is he jumping? That’s the question that street level onlookers and moviegoers want answered from Sam Worthington, Elizabeth Banks, Jamie Bell and Ed Harris in “Man on a Ledge”
Rating: 3.0/5.0
This trifle of an action film does have some mojo going for it. It’s played a bit tongue-in-cheek, with the wry Banks filling the role as the hard-drinking New York Police suicide negotiator. The tension in this film is wholly exaggerated, to a point where it teeters on the brink of parody. All the ensemble cast has their game faces on, however, as the somewhat overly complex plot unravels.

Chicago – Sam Worthington is instantly recognizable for his break out role in “Avatar,” playing the Marine turned blue citizen of Na’vi. Chicago – Edward Burns is a recognizable character actor, having introduced himself to audiences in the mid-1990s with “The Brothers McMullen.” He also is a veteran filmmaker, having written and directed that film, “She’s The One,” “Sidewalks of New York” and the recent “Newlyweds.”
Burns has taken a more guerilla approach to filmmaking in the last ten years, preferring micro-budget productions with a consistent crew. Since 2002, he has made six feature films, all outside the boundaries of Hollywood. He has partnered with Tribeca Films for his latest outing, “Newlyweds,” a sharp adult comedy about various stages of relationships and marriage in New York City.
Burns also has had a pretty visible career as a film actor in other productions, more notable as Pvt. Reiben in Steven Spielberg’s “Saving Private Ryan.” Recently, he played opposite Katherine Heigl in “27 Dresses” and will be in the upcoming “Man on a Ledge” opposite Elizabeth Banks.

Robert Pattinson, Pierce Brosnan, Remember Me The Robert Pattinson vehicle Remember Me, which divided critics upon its early March release, has reportedly grossed $11.03m on DVD in the United States, with more than 600k units sold. The source for these figures is a site called The Numbers, which focuses on home video revenues. If the Numbers' figures are correct — the site itself offers little information on its sources — Remember Me DVD sales to date are equivalent to nearly 60% of the film's North American box-office take. Worldwide, Remember Me grossed nearly $56m. Summit Entertainment spent about $16m producing it, though foreign distribution deals likely covered much — if not all — of that amount. Also in the Remember Me cast: Emilie de Ravin, Pierce Brosnan, Chris Cooper and Lena Olin. Allen Coulter directed from a screenplay by Will Fetters. Rarely have I seen a show that seemed to have so much potential on paper, while at the same time managing to convince me that so little of that potential will ultimately be realized. The outline of Running Wilde may not exactly jump out at me – the wacky love-interest angle between the rich, spoiled son of an oil tycoon, and the (let’s face it) laughably liberal girl who got away when the two were kids – but the people involved in the show offer up bags of potential television goodness, and moreover bring to mind just the sort of potential that is ripe for the market right now.

Pattinson portrays Tyler, an aimless New York City college student who is estranged from his wealthy yet distant father (Pierce Brosnan). He maintains a relationship with his 11-year old sister Caroline (Ruby Jerins), mother (Lena Olin) and dead brother Michael. The journals that he keeps are letters to that brother, who committed suicide in 1995. The family gathers every year on the anniversary of that tragedy, and the story is centered around the sixth one in 2001.
Tyler’s raging anger toward the overall situation manifests itself in inappropriate ways. After intervening in a street fight, he is arrested by the attending cop Sgt. Craig (Chris Cooper), who is about to become connected...

Summit Entertainment has announced that the trailer for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse will debut in front of the studio's Robert Pattinson film Remember Me in theaters March 12. Sure, on one hand it could be perceived as a cheap way to lure bodies into the seats. On the other, if you'd pay money just to see the Eclipse trailer, chances are you were already going to see Remember Me. Right? Poll! P.S. How awful would it have been if ABC had tried to lure young viewers into the Oscars telecast by premiering the Eclipse trailer during the March 7 awards?! Kristen Stewart tells E!

Robert Pattinson in Remember Me (Myles Aronowitz / Summit Entertainment) The Twilight Saga star Robert Pattinson and two-time Academy Award winner Sean Penn may be joining Academy Award winner Reese Witherspoon in a Fox 2000 film adaptation of Sara Gruen’s bestselling novel Water for Elephants, according to Variety. Francis Lawrence, best known for the Will Smith vehicle I Am Legend, will direct, while the Oscar-nominated Richard Lagravenese (for The Fisher King) will adapt the Depression-era story about a veterinary student (probably Pattinson) who, left penniless following the death of his parents, joins a traveling circus after dropping out of school. Once there, the student befriends the abused animals. Witherspoon will play the (elephant?) rider Marlena, [...]...

It's a Gilmore Girls mother-daughter reunion on NBC! Sources confirm to me exclusively that beloved Gilmore matriarch Kelly Bishop has booked a multi-episode arc on Mercy. She'll play a patient of Sonia's (Jamie Lee Kirchner) named Elaine. Where does the Gilmore reunion part come in, you ask? Well, Bishop's TV offspring, Lauren Graham, is also starring on a Peacock drama, Parenthood. And although Bishop's first airdate is Tbd, there's a good chance both actresses will be appearing on NBC at the same time.
