Harry Bosch will continue to crack cases for the foreseeable future. Ahead of the Season 2 premiere this fall, Bosch: Legacy, the spinoff of the longrunning Amazon crime series, has been renewed for a third season. Amazon Freevee announced the renewal Monday, prior to the Amazon NewFront presentation.
Additionally, David Denman (Mare of Easttown), Patrick Brennan (The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2), Rafael Cabrera (Too Old to Die Young), Bruce Davison (X–Men) Jessica Camacho (All Rise) and Guy Wilson (Angelyne) have joined the cast for the upcoming Season 2.
The Season 3 pickup follows strong ratings for Season 1, which Amazon Freevee says delivered a higher number of viewers than any previous season of the mothership series Bosch.

A version of this story about the designers behind “Angelyne,” “Impeachment: American Crime Story” and “Pam & Tommy” first appeared in the Down to the Wire: Drama issue of TheWrap’s awards magazine.
A nostalgic look in the rearview mirror is nothing new for television creators. But it is unusual when so many mine the same era, in this case reframing controversial personalities and events from the recent past. The frenetic landscape of the 1980s smashing directly into the 1990s was omnipresent in three different limited series: Peacock’s “Angelyne,” FX’s “Impeachment: American Crime Story” and Hulu’s “Pam & Tommy”. They not only provided viewers with a satisfying reintroduction to the excesses of those decades, but also gave their leading female characters a dissecting reevaluation. And the designers on all three projects were vital to the series’ success.

Viewers of the Emmy-nominated Angelyne on Peacock might be surprised to learn just how little of star Emmy Rossum they actually saw. Rossum said during a panel appearance at Deadline’s Contenders Television: The Nominees event that 10 prosthetic pieces transformed her face and body into that of Los Angeles billboard queen Angelyne.
“Nothing of me is me,” Rossum said. “There’s two contact lenses in each eye. There’s a chest piece that wraps around up into the neck and the hairline. Even earlobes, hands — everything is not recognizable [as myself].”

Emmy-nominated makeup department head Kate Biscoe said the prosthetics created a unique paradox. Biscoe normally is tasked with making prosthetic material look like human skin. However, Angelyne herself has altered her body with plastic surgery.

“It’s very rare to be able to tell a story which is so much about artifice,” reveals costume designer Danny Glicker about “Angelyne.” For our recent webchat he adds, “The ultimate goal was to tell the truth about someone who is fabulously invested in creating an external aesthetic that ultimately taps into expressing a deeply felt truth. For Peacock’s limited series Angelyne, looks were everything. Getting the visuals of the Los Angeles legend right was vital for sure, but so was imbuing Emmy Rossum’s portrayal of the mysterious billboard model with a sense of humanity, allowing a real character to move and exist beneath the intense makeup and prosthetics.
“This is obviously a herculean, Everest-style undertaking,” explains Rossum, who in addition to starring serves as an executive producer. “You have to have people of a certain caliber to pull this off. Otherwise, you see a mask and you don’t see a human being.” She articulates that while the show takes inspiration from a real person, it’s an interpretation of reality. “We’re not doing a biopic, we’re telling a story that is about a character. But it’s also a fantasy of everything that she represents.

In an Emmys season of some truly memorable transformations on screen, Emmy Rossum leading the cast of Peacock’s “Angelyne” may be the most mind-boggling.
The legendary billboard queen of Los Angeles is well-known for her larger-than-life appearance, with breasts, hair and makeup that could only be rivaled by a Barbie doll or drag queen. That is, until Rossum stepped into the role.
She sat in the makeup chair for upwards of five hours on some shoot days and embodied the icon over six decades, with each time period requiring a totally different set of accouterments. Those included individual prosthetics on her cheeks, chin, lips, nose, forehead, eyelids, breasts and neck. Even her ear lobes required their own unique pieces. Although it sounds like a lot, prosthetic designer Vincent Van Dyke told Variety he appreciated the challenge of transforming Rossum without it being obvious how much work went into the process.

If you’ve lived in Los Angeles for more than two years, actually if you’ve lived or worked near Sunset Blvd, there is a good chance you’ve spotted the city’s mercurial angel, Angelyne. A fixture in the city for almost 40 years, Angelyne is part sex goddess, part wannabe celebrity, and a good chunk of aspirational businesswoman. She never truly hit the peak of show business she was aiming for, but her ability to get free billboards all over the city endeared her to the masses.

All 22,000 plus voting members of the TV academy have until June 27 to cast their 2022 Emmy Awards nominations ballots for programs. Unlike the Oscars, voters for the Emmys do not rank their choices and nominees are determined by a simple tally. In the past, voters were limited in the number of programs that they could put forth. Five years ago, that cap (which was usually 10 per category) was lifted.
While the comedy and drama series ballots have each maintained an average of over 100 entrants in recent years, there have nearly always been fewer than 40 choices in the limited series genre. This year, however, the field is much larger at 61, which is up by 24 from last year. There were 41 contenders in 2020, 35 in 2019, and 33 in 2018. Five series from the list below will make the cut and be announced as Emmy nominees on July 12.

For decades, countless Angelenos wondered about the identity of the mysterious blonde bombshell who appeared on hundreds of billboards across town beginning in the mid ’80s, most bearing little but her pseudonym: Angelyne.
A precursor to famous-for-being-famous megastars like Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian, Angelyne was the ultimate pop-culture tease. Her intention was to pique curiosity, but never satisfy it.
It wasn’t until The Hollywood Reporter‘s Gary Baum published two probing feature profiles of her — in 2015 and 2017 — that her true story was revealed: The sex-symbol who eternally cruised around L.A. in a pink Corvette and seemed to embody the glitz of the city itself was born about as far from that world as one could imagine— in Poland, in 1950, to Holocaust survivors.

“I think it’s very timely,” reflects showrunner Allison Miller about “Angelyne” in our recent webchat. She adds, “We like our celebrities to be very open and give us glimpses into their home life. We expect to see their kids, what they look like in the morning and where they grocery shop. Maybe we’ve lost a little bit of the mystery. The queen of self-promotion has major issues with her latest portrayal. Emmy Rossum plays Angelyne, the notorious and campy Los Angeles legend who rose to fame with a series of billboards plastered around the city in the '80s, in the limited series Angelyne, which premiered on Peacock May 19. Now Angelyne, whose iconic pink Corvette has become a staple on L.A. streets for decades, is firing back at the way she's portrayed on the series. "I had a little glimpse of it, and I refuse to watch it," Angelyne told Inside Edition on May 19. "It doesn't do me justice. Would you be flattered if someone played you and misrepresented you?" ‘Angelyne’: Emmy Rossum Says Title Character Made Her Believe You ‘Can Make the Impossible Possible’
Emmy Rossum’s transformation into L.A. icon Angelyne is extraordinary. From the big, blonde wig to the extensive prosthetic work, the “Shameless” star completely inhabits the title character in Peacock’s latest. But for Rossum, it was important to give 100 percent to both the performance and the series itself, where she not only stars but acts as an executive producer. The series had a tough hill to climb because of its focus on a subject who is little-known to anyone outside of Los Angeles, but Rossum wants to prove this isn’t a “niche L.A. story.” It’s a tale about identity and the ways people can reinvent themselves.
Rossum talked to IndieWire via phone about tackling a story that took four years to come to fruition and playing a character who is larger than life. The interview has been condensed and edited for clarity.

Icons come and icons go, but few of them linger as long as L.A. glam-oddity Angelyne. A Southern California staple during most of the ’80s, the buxom, buffonted blonde starlet stared down at Los Angelenos from massive billboards and turned heads on the street with her hot pink wheels, leaving everyone to wonder who the hell she really was. Unlike the modern Tmi influencers she’s, well, influenced, Angelyne was rigidly secretive and socially elusive, a unicorn by way of camp filmmaker Russ Meyers. Everyone knew about her, but nobody seemed to actually to know her. Hell, we still don’t know much about her! “That, I found so fascinating,” agreed Shameless alum Emmy Rossum during our recent chat. Legitimately unrecognizable as the pop-culture creation at the center of Peacock‘s terrifically engaging mini-series, Rossum found her role as the bombshell just as intriguing. “How can you be so famous and yet so unknown?...

Mystery has shrouded Angelyne ever since her giant ads besieged LA. Now a new drama starring Emmy Rossum and Martin Freeman is telling her astonishing story – and she’s furious about it. We track down the pink-Corvette-driving star
In 1984, a billboard featuring a pouting, pneumatic blond woman appeared on Sunset Boulevard, the most feted thoroughfare in Los Angeles. “Angelyne rocks,” it declared. There was a phone number and nothing else. Any onlookers curious enough to call got through to her management: would they like to book Angelyne? In 1984, a billboard featuring a pouting, pneumatic blond woman appeared on Sunset Boulevard, the most feted thoroughfare in Los Angeles. “Angelyne rocks,” it declared. There was a phone number and nothing else. Any onlookers curious enough to call got through to her management: would they like to book Angelyne? I don’t know, those callers would probably have answered, who is Angelyne? Stay in Los Angeles long enough, and you’ll have an Angelyne story. Decades after plastering the city in mysterious billboards bearing her name and Barbie-esque silhouette, the self-made urban legend can still be found zipping through the streets in her signature Corvette, a flash of bubblegum pink on the desert horizon. While less ubiquitous than she once was, Angelyne remains a hyper-local symbol of a Hollywood dream come to plasticene life. She was famous, as the often derisive saying goes, for being famous and not much more — which is, as the new Peacock series about her argues, exactly how she wanted it.
Starring Emmy Rossum, an executive producer and self-professed super-fan of the unknowable person she plays through layers of makeup and enormous fake breasts, “Angelyne” attempts to unpack the woman, the myth, the legend over five self-reflective episodes. Even as the show uses Gary Baum’s Hollywood Reporter...

The world of “Angelyne” is hot pink. It’s a pink that can’t be described in terms of bubble gum or cotton candy because no one in the world would ever invent something pink enough to make this pink’s namesake. Except, maybe, Angelyne (here played by Emmy Rossum) herself. The enigmatic, endlessly watchable pop figure at the center of Peacock’s new series is the stuff of Los Angeles legend, as the show loves to remind us.

The story of Angelyne — singer, actor, model, artist, and proto-influencer — is intrinsically tied to the story of Hollywood, a place synonymous with illusion and transformation. Throughout the 1980s and ’90s, her buxom silhouette and blond bouffant hairdo could be found on billboards all over Los Angeles. It seemed to happen in the blink of an eye: Suddenly, Angelyne was everywhere, pushing all manner of merchandise from the trunk of a Corvette almost as recognizable as she was.
Attempts have been made to demystify her, to pierce that veil of pink lycra — The Hollywood Reporter’s Gary Baum has taken a few cracks at it on his own, including writing the 2017 exposé that revealed her real identity.
But with their five-part limited series “Angelyne,” series creator Nancy Oliver and star/executive producer Emmy Rossum are poised to take the deepest dive into the life of this Hollywood mainstay, a deceptively shallow...

If you live in Los Angeles, it’s a rite of passage to see the bright pink convertible driven by Angelyne. A B-movie actress of few credits (“Earth Girls Are Easy”) and largely regarded as famous for being famous, her ubiquitous billboards became shorthand for ’80s Los Angeles. In 2017, The Hollywood Reporter published an expose that claimed to reveal her life, although Angelyne disputed the story.
With so much still unknown about Angelyne and anyone outside LA understandably hard-pressed to know who she is, star Emmy Rossum and creator Nancy Oliver have their work cut out for them. “Angelyne” is a hot pink, rapid-fire series focused on the nature of identity and the way our memory informs who we are. With a fun, unique structure, and producer-star Rossum slathering herself in prosthetics and body-hugging costumes, “Angelyne” becomes a highly entertaining and heartfelt look at a Los Angeles icon.

How did Emmy Rossum manage to embody someone who she herself describes as an "enigma"? The short answer? A lot of research and one amazing dinner. Rossum stars as Angelyne, the real-life figure who loomed large over Los Angeles in the '80s—literally, with billboards across the city—in Peacock's new series of the same name. "She was all anybody could talk about," Rossum told E! News' Daily Pop in an exclusive interview. "I think she's absolutely a fascinating icon. She's the original influencer...the first person to say, 'I'm going to be famous for who I am, not something that I do.'" But even as Angelyne and her pink corvette...

It takes a lot to be a bombshell. Emmy Rossum transformed into busty billboard queen Angelyne for the eponymous Peacock series, premiering May 19, but the physical embodiment of the performance artist took a toll on the “Shameless” alum.
Rossum, who also executive produces the series alongside husband and “Mr. Robot” creator Sam Esmail, revealed that she spent an average of four to five hours in makeup every day and bleached her eyebrows for the role. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Rossum also got blisters from the fake breasts and suffered tear duct issues from wearing two pairs of contact lenses.
“The physicality of the character was challenging,” Rossum told the outlet. “The body is heavy, yet it has to feel light and effervescent…I found it to be completely liberating to look in the mirror and not see myself at all. At first, it’s unnerving. But feeling lost gives way...

Most Angelenos know the Billboard Queen, Angelyne. The enigmatic human Barbie, self-described as a “Rorschach test in pink,” has been a mainstay of Los Angeles culture ever since billboards bearing her face and name began popping up throughout the city in 1984. She’s frequently spotted driving around L.A. in her signature pink Corvette, selling merchandise out of her trunk and charging 20 for a photograph.
Notoriously private about her true identity (although she has run for office more than once), she re-entered the spotlight in 2017, when a Hollywood Reporter exposé revealed her to be Renee Tami Goldberg, the daughter of two Holocaust survivors who created the fantastical identity of Angelyne through sheer willpower and a thirst for fame.
Now, that investigation has been adapted as a scripted series for Peacock, starring and executive produced by Emmy Rossum (“Shameless”). The real Angelyne was initially set to appear in the series, but...

There are many paths to stardom, but the blueprint used by Los Angeles pop icon Angelyne was especially ahead of its time. While attempting to jump-start her music career in the 1980s, she appeared on a series of billboards and soon rose to fame as “L.A.’s Billboard Queen.” Before long, she was scoring television gigs and cameo roles in films like 1988’s “Earth Girls are Easy.” In a post-Kardashians world, celebrity for its own sake has become a perfectly normal pursuit.

It may be difficult to describe Angelyne to the uninitiated. Urban legend made flesh? Semi-divine fertility goddess? Personification of the color pink? A rare form of humanoid cryptid? Savvy entrepreneur goosing the entire system of L.A. fame? She may be all of these things and more. For many years, Angelyne was one of L.A.'s favorite mysteries. In 1984, the first Angelyne billboard went up on Sunset Boulevard, featuring a photo of her posing in a cartoonishly seductive manner. The billboard wasn't advertising an upcoming movie, it wasn't for a record, it wasn't for a TV show, it wasn't even a request for auditions for those things....
