Via Total Film, Warner Bros. has today summoned an all-new image for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, in which Newt Scamander reunites with an old friend.
That ally in question is, of course, Jacob Kowalski (Dan Fogler), a Muggle companion who felt the wrath of Colin Farrell’s Percival Graves towards the end of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. But in a cruel twist of fate, because Fogler’s veteran bore witness to MacUsa (Magical Congress of the United States of America) and those beasts that were let loose on New York City, Seraphina Picquery ordered his memory to be erased – otherwise it may have exposed the wizarding world hiding in plain sight.

J.K. Rowling is now a royal Companion of Honor!
The Harry Potter author was granted the prestigious title by Prince William at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday, saying she was "deeply honored and proud" to receive the honor, which is limited to 65 people "of distinction" at any one time.
"To be included in the distinguished and diversely talented company of the other Companions of Honor, especially as a female writer, is a particular privilege," added Rowling, who was honored for her services to literature and philanthropy.
The decoration comes nearly 20.5 years after the U.K. release of the first novel in her best-selling fantasy series, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. In 2001, she also received the Order of the British Empire (OBE) from His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales, for services to children's literature.

Chris Pratt has filed for divorce from Anna Faris.
The 38-year-old Jurassic World star filed legal documents on Friday, Et confirms. The news comes nearly four months after Pratt and Faris announced their separation.
The former couple, who have remained friendly since their split, filed their divorce docs at the same time. Faris' response perfectly mirrors Pratt's, as the two both ask for joint custody of their 5-year-old son, Jack, and reserve the right to receive spousal support. The pair lists July 13 as the date of separation.
Et has reached out to reps for Pratt and Faris, 41, for comment.
The two haven't been shy about continuing to care for each other after ending their eight-year marriage.
"There is still so much laughter in our lives together, and he is so proud of me, still,” the 40-year-old actress told People of Pratt, who wrote the foreword to Faris' new book, Unqualified. “We watched each other...

There’s a great debate raging on right now over the almost legendary Zack Snyder cut of Justice League. For every report that surfaces saying it exists and is fully complete, there’s two more that point to it not being a real thing and simply just wishful thinking on the part of fans. Truth is, we won’t know for sure what exactly Warner Bros. has locked away in their vault until they’re ready to make an announcement, but in the meantime, we’re at least starting to get a better idea of which director (Snyder or Joss Whedon) shot which scenes.
Earlier this week, we were told that the opening Batman sequence was Whedon’s work, and now, it’s become apparent that Snyder was in charge of Deathstroke’s big screen debut. We know this because a new behind the scenes photo has surfaced which shows...

Even beyond the core five members (sorry, Superman), Justice League is packed to the rafters when it comes to A-list talent.
From J.K. Simmons (Commissioner Gordon) to Willem Dafoe (Vulko), Amy Adams (Lois Lane) to Ciarán Hinds (Steppenwolf), you don’t have to look too far to find big-name talent, and thanks to the film’s latest TV spot, today brings forth another sneak peek at Amber Heard in action as Queen Mera.
The soon-to-be Aquaman star is said to hold a relatively minor role in Justice League – ditto for Willem Dafoe’s aqua ally, Vulko – as it lends viewers a chance to get acquainted with Atlantean royalty before the advent of James Wan’s solo movie late next year.
Getting back to Justice League, though, and this is an apocalyptic tease of what’s to come. Soon after Steppenwolf declares war against Earth in the name of those all-powerful...

Production on young Han Solo's standalone Star Wars movie is underway, and it's got a brilliant working title: Red Cup.
Get it? It's a pun on red Solo cups. And his name is Solo. Also, it's a solo project. Either way, it's the best advertisement for the iconic plastic cup company since Toby Keith's 2011 single "Red Solo Cup" or the invention of beer pong.
It's important to note that Red Cup obviously won't be the actual title of the film, it's just the place-filler title that production uses until Disney announces the real name closer to the time of release.

To quote American statesman Ron Swanson, "Awards are stupid, but they'd be less stupid if they went to the right person." The Oscars are far from a referendum on a movie's worth, and are much more reflective of the climate of Hollywood opinion than the actual quality of the nominees. But in that respect, we can still learn a lot about how the people making movies see themselves by looking at the big picture of Best Picture.

Though the Academy Awards and the Golden Globes don't share voters, La La Land's sweep at the latter -- winning the most prizes, literally ever, at the Globes-- suggests the kind of overall crowd-pleasing and respectability strength that means the Best Picture Oscar is already won. The only suspense is how many other statues will be keeping it company on Hollywood's High Holy Night in February. But the race for nominations, which we've always maintained is the most exciting part each year anyway, is still relatively heated. So the Best Picture Oscar chart has been updated (more charts to follow over the next couple of days). But in short yours truly in punditry believe that the race currently breaks down like so
Tier 1 - The Locks... La La Land, Moonlight, and Manchester by the Sea
Tier 2 - If There Were Still Only 5.... Arrival and Hell or High Water?

As several of his competitors headed to Cleveland for the Republican National Convention this week, Conan O’Brien went the other direction.
O’Brien is back at San Diego Comic-Con to tape episodes of his TBS talk show this Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. It’s the second year in a row for “Conan” at the city’s historic Spreckles Theater, and the host told IndieWire he’s much happier to be here.
“Last year was such an instant realization that this is perfect for us,” he said. “There’s an overlap between our fans and people who would be here anyway at Comic-Con. Manuel here. One of our favorite wins from last night’s Academy Awards was Ex Machina’s triumph in the Best Visual Effects category.
We marveled at its nod when the nominations came out mostly because it seemed like the low-key supportive use of visual effects that rarely get cited in the category (why else would you pass over the effects of say, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind?). Add to that a stellar category across the board—Judy! Bb-8! Furiosa! Mars!—and the A24 film win feels all the more laudable. Sometimes, it seems, “best” need not mean “most” to Oscar members.
But two things are particularly striking to the inner number cruncher:
1. Ex Machina became the second non-Best Picture nominee to win in this category since the Academy expanded the Best Pic roster. Interstellar, as Amir reminded me in the comments, was the first. As you’ll remember,...

The Force even holds its sway over awards voters. After demolishing box office records its first weekend in theaters, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is showing its prowess in awards season. The 2016 Critics’ Choice Award nominations were announced over a week ago, on December 14, but “Force Awakens” got a last-minute nomination today. The Broadcast Film Critics Association (Bfca) today announced that “Force Awakens” has earned a Critics’ Choice Award nomination for Best Picture. The film was not screened for Bfca voters in time for nominations balloting, but after seeing the new tale of a galaxy far, far away, the the board of directors held a special vote to make “Force Awakens” the 11th Best Picture nominee. All other categories remain as previously announced. This is a rare though not totally unprecedented move by the Bfca. In 2000, “Cast Away” was also screened too late for normal consideration and the Bfca included it among 11 best picture nominees.

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" may seem like an Oscar contender on the surface, but academy voters are notorious for giving the cold shoulder to sci-fi fare. Post Guardians Of The Galaxy Dave Bautista is on absolute Fire! Like scorching! We exclusively broke last year that he was playing the assassin Mr. Hinx in the twenty fourth Bond film Spectre and now we found out what he is doing after that films wraps.
Bautista is going to play the bad ass barbarian role of The Kurgan in Summit's Highlander reboot for visual effects artist turned first time director Cedric Nicolas-Troyan. The original Highlander, released back in 1986, starred Christopher Lambert as Connor MacLeod, an immortal Scottish swordsman who, after centuries of dueling to survive against others like him, is forced to confront one final foe: the Kurgan, a murderously brutal barbarian who lusts for the prize that comes with being the last immortal. The movie spawned numerous sequels and a tv-show.
Clancy Brown rocked the role in the original Highlander and made it memorable.

6th Update, Tuesday, 3 Pm: Rentrak Theatrical filed the weekend’s actuals with Warner Bros.’ American Sniper counting a four-week cume through yesterday of $110.4M. Talk about the spoils of war: American Sniper propelled the 2015 box office, in its first 19 days, 3.6% percent over the same frame last year with $667M. It stands to reason that this would be the highest-grossing four-day Mlk weekend of all-time with $248.5M after American Sniper broke a slew of records, read Eastwood’s career-high bow, best three-day opening ever during January and February. Previous Mlk record was 2009 with $231.5M when Sony comedy Paul Blart: Mall Cop zoomed up a four-day bow of $39.2M. American Sniper had the biggest theater average of the four-day weekend with $30,100, followed by Sony Classic’s Still Alice, which chalked up $20,685 PTA or $248K in 12 venues.
The consensus is that American Sniper is going to hold for another two weekends. Wide releases...
