Australian director John Hillcoat’s got four features under his belt now, and I’m a massive fan of the previous three. All four of them share a few things, most prominently brutality and the darker side of humanity. What his latest film Triple 9 is noticeably different for is a modern setting; both The Proposition and Lawless are tales of the past and The Road is set in the bleak, bleak future. I wasn’t sure how his style would translate to a current story, but the short version is that it’s gritty, dark, and intense in ways his other films couldn’t capture. This is where Heat and Training Day meets The Town, and all of those films are better as a whole. Don’t count it out though.
The cast is…insane. So many great actors tossed into one story with an equal many characters is bound to be complex,...

Amplitude, Harmonix’s long-awaited sequel to the original rhythm action games released for the PlayStation 2, has finally been given a release date. The game will see a full release on January 5th, 2016, but those who pledged $40 or more to the title’s Kickstarter campaign will get early access on December 23.
But why, after all this time, has the studio decided that now’s a good time to resurrect the long-gestating series? Well, a statement on Amplitude‘s Kickstarter page says it all, really.
With the advancements in technology and the huge creative leaps forward our studio has taken, we believe we can rebuild Amplitude for current consoles and make it an even more amazing experience than before. We’re aiming to deliver an updated soundtrack, incredible visuals, and fine-tuned controls. These improvements will be layered on top of the core mechanics and hallmark difficulty that made both FreQuency and Amplitude...

Though Christoph Waltz has been presumed to be in the mix for John Hillcoat's heist thriller Triple Nine since the project first surfaced last summer, it sounds like another actor will be stepping into his role instead. Deadline has word that Woody Harrelson, fresh off some great buzz and success in HBO's "True Detective," has replaced Waltz as Sergeant Detective Jeffrey Allen. That makes for a bit of a reunion since his character is the uncle to a cop played by Casey Affleck, who worked with Harrelson on Out of the Furnace last year. Harrelson is just one more addition to a cast that will turn a lot of heads. More below! The story follows a group of thieves who plan to kill a young Lapd officer to divert the police away from a daring heist they’re perpetrating across town. The title refers to the code used when a police officer needs assistance.

Woody Harrelson and Aaron Paul are going to look so cool smoking cigarettes and deciding not to give up on humanity together in John Hillcoat's upcoming thriller Triple Nine. Or maybe it'll be Woody Harrelson and Chiwetel Ejiofor or, hey, Woody Harrelson and Gal Gadot. Hot off the success of the critically acclaimed HBO series True Detective, Woody Harrelson has signed on to join the already impressive cast of John Hillcoat’s upcoming heist thriller, Triple Nine. Shooting will begin this summer, and Open Road has already purchased domestic distribution rights, with plans to give the film a wide release next year.
The script, written by Matt Cook, will follow a group of corrupt cops who are blackmailed by the Russian mafia into executing an impossible heist. The only way for them to pull it off is to produce a “999,” which is police code for “officer down.” Complications ensue when the rookie officer set up to die evades the attack, setting into motion a chain of events fuelled by greed and revenge.
Harrelson will join a stacked cast that includes Casey Affleck, Kate Winslet, Michael B. Jordan, Aaron Paul, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Teresa Palmer and Gal Godot.

Adding to his recent pile-up of “men in uniform with guns” type roles, Woody Harrelson will follow up fashionable stints in green (Oren Moverman’s The Messenger), navy blue (Moverman’s Rampart) and shirt-tie confection in True Detective with yet another detective role in John Hillcoat’s highly anticipated ensemble pic. Deadline reports that Harrelson will play Sergeant Detective Jeffrey Allen (the uncle to the cop played by Casey Affleck) in Triple Nine — clearly Open Road Films most appetizing title being prepped for the 2015 campaign. A summer production start date is in the works.
