FX’s Shogun is getting more seasons. FX, Hulu, and the Estate of James Clavell are working to extend the critically acclaimed global hit drama, moving forward to develop the saga with two additional seasons of the drama series.
The show’s key creative partners, including co-creators, executive producers, and writers Justin Marks and Rachel Kondo, executive producer Michaela Clavell, and series star and producer Hiroyuki Sanada, are on board for the development. Production timing has not been locked in, but a writers’ room is being assembled and will begin this summer.
Through its first nine weeks, Shogun has become FX’s most-watched show ever based on global hours streamed. All 10 episodes of Shogun, which concluded on April 23, are available to stream on Hulu in the U.S. and Disney+ in all other territories.

More seasons of “Shōgun” are (maybe) on the way.
Variety has learned that FX, Hulu and the estate of James Clavell — who authored the novel on which “Shōgun” is based — are working to develop more seasons of the critically acclaimed series. A writers’ room will begin this summer to develop two more seasons of the show.
It must be noted that this is not a formal renewal, and no production has been scheduled for more episodes. Series co-creators Justin Marks and Rachel Kondo remain onboard the series, as does executive producer Michaela Clavell of the James Clavell estate, as well as series star and producer Hiroyuki Sanada.
It was previously reported that a second season of the historical drama was being eyed by FX following the success of Season 1. Sources said that FX was mulling entering the show into the drama series category for the Emmys rather than limited series,...

More “Shōgun” is in the works.
The hit FX for Hulu series is in development in two more seasons; “Shōgun” was originally announced as a limited series.
Co-creators, executive producers, and writers Justin Marks and Rachel Kondo would return for Seasons 2 and 3, which FX says are now “likely” to happen, along with executive producer Michaela Clavell and series star and producer Hiroyuki Sanada. Production has not been set as the additional seasons have not yet been ordered — but a writers’ room is being assembled and will begin in the summer. The estate of novelist James Clavell, whose work the series is based on, has also approved the additional seasons.
So, about that whole “limited” thing… IndieWire can confirm the series is being entered as a Drama series at this year’s Emmys, not in the Limited Series category.

When Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy became new leaders at Warner Bros., they presented their very ambitious plans to the public, which included the revitalization of The Lord of the Rings movie franchise. DC’s The Flash Starring Ezra Miller Was Released In 2023 But Flopped At The Box Office ( Photo Credit – IMDb )

Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster tournament is back. While studios during Covid wildly embraced the theatrical day-and-date model when cinemas were closed, they soon realized there’s nothing more profitable than a theatrical release and the downstreams that come with it. If anything, theatrical is the advertisement for a movie’s longevity in subsequent home entertainment windows. Entering the conversation in 2023 were the streamers, such as Apple, who have also realized the necessity of theatrical to eventize their movies. The financial data pulled together here for Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster Tournament is culled by seasoned and trusted sources.

The three-year period from 2001 to 2003 has given us three films that are today considered to be among the most memorable works of modern cinematography. Peter Jackson was the bold director who had enough courage to adapt J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, and the trilogy became a massive hit. This further led to a three-movie adaptation of The Hobbit, which also became a standalone prequel franchise and as things stand now, Jackson is going to go back to his beloved Middle-earth sooner than most expected, as new movies are in the works, based on the most recent reports.

T-minus two years for the release date of the upcoming Project Hail Mary. Amazon MGM Studios has finally set a date for the Ryan Gosling astronaut thriller. Deadline recently reported that the film, which is being directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, is preparing for launch on March 20, 2026. There are currently no other big titles scheduled for that weekend. Amy Pascal, Gosling, Lord, Miller, Aditya Sood, Rachel O’Connor and Andy Weir are all on board as producers of the film. Drew Goddard wrote the adapted screenplay based on the Andy Weir novel. Weir had also written the novel for The Martian, which served as source material for the Matt Damon film of the same name. Goddard is also set to executive produce with his Goddard Textiles partner Sarah Esberg, along with Ken Kao.

Warner Bros. released the trailer for M. Night Shyamalan’s newest thriller, Trap, with Josh Hartnett, Ariel Donoghue and Saleka Shyamalan on Thursday. The upcoming film will feature Hartnett as a serial killer at a pop star’s concert.
Trap follows a “father and teen daughter attending a pop concert, where they realize they’re at the center of a dark and sinister event,” per the logline. Warner Bros. offered a first look at the movie at this year’s CinemaCon earlier this month, and released the trailer on social media Thursday.
The trailer shows Hartnett’s character with his daughter, Jody (Donoghue), at a concert for pop star Lady Raven (played by Shyamalan’s daughter and R&b singer, Saleka). Guess who's back ... back again? With no disrespect intended towards Slim Shady, he's got nothing on the run that M. Night Shyamalan is currently on. The horror-focused writer/director might remain as divisive as ever, but he's all but put to rest any doubts about whether he still has the juice or not (as the kids say). After wrapping up his "Eastrail 177" trilogy -- that's "Unbreakable," "Split," and "Glass" for the uninitiated -- and getting the franchise fever out of his system, Shyamalan has focused almost exclusively on bold adaptations like "Old" and "Knock at the Cabin." Meanwhile, on the television side of things, he brought the Apple TV+ series "Servant" to an unsettling end and has even found time to watch his daughter Ishana Night Shyamalan get ready to make her feature directing debut with the upcoming "The Watchers."

Henry Cavill may not be reprising his role as the Man of Steel anytime soon, but fans don’t need to burst into tears for him. The Hollywood Reporter discovered that the actor was paid a whopping $250,000 ‘each’ for his brief appearances in Black Adam and The Flash.
Yes, that’s what it is—a quarter of a million dollars for just a few minutes of screen time. Not bad for a day’s work, right? While some may feel sorry for Cavill for not getting the chance to star in James Gunn’s 2025 Superman release, it’s abundantly clear that the actor isn’t hurting for cash. Also, compared to Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot, the Immortals actor received a higher salary for his brief cameos in other DC flicks.

Cavill was a hot commodity at Warner Bros. Pictures before Gunn and Safran were named co-CEOs of DC Studios.

The Color Purple director Blitz Bazawule’s next film will be Black Samurai, which Warner Bros. is backing. More on the film below.
CinemaCon is in full swing and our news desk has been busy penning story after story on the new exciting trailers and upcoming reboots and sequels. The latest exciting bit of news, albeit not directly from CinemaCon, involves Blitz Bazawule, the director behind The Color Purple.
As reported by Variety, Bazawule is working on a film about Yasuke, an African warrior who went on to become the very first Black Samurai.
The film is tentatively titled simply Black Samurai. Bazawule has already written the script and will be directing as well as producing. Warner Bros. beat out other studios and streamers in a bidding war. Warner Bros. also released Bazawule’s The Color Purple so there’s already an existing, and presumably good, relationship between the Ghanaian filmmaker and the studio.

Warner Bros. Lands ‘Black Samurai’ Movie From ‘The Color Purple’ Director Blitz Bazawule (Exclusive)
In a competitive situation, Warner Bros. has landed “The Color Purple” director Blitz Bazawule’s next project, which takes on the legendary Yasuke, an African warrior who became the first Black samurai.
Sources tell Variety that Warner Bros. beat out three other studios and streamers’ bids on the script, tentatively titled “Black Samurai,” which Bazawule wrote on spec and will direct and produce under his Inward Gaze banner.
After impressing the industry with his 2018 debut “The Burial of Kojo,” helming episodes of Ava DuVernay’s “Cherish the Day” and working with Beyoncé on her feature-length visual album “Black Is King,” Bazawule made his major studio debut with 2023’s “The Color Purple.”

When your last film won Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best International Film, what in the heck could you possibly do for an encore? When you're Bong Joon-ho, a one-of-a-kind cinematic visionary who's yet to make a less-than-great movie, you go to Warner Bros and you go epic.
Bong's follow-up to his 2019 triumph "Parasite" is "Mickey 17," an adaptation of Edward Ashton's critically acclaimed science fiction novel about an expendable space explorer (Robert Pattinson) sent on a perilous mission to colonize the ice planet Niflheim. When the first Mickey dies, a human print is generated with most of the deceased's memories intact. In Ashton's book, the human printing process is set to continue indefinitely after the newest iteration of Mickey dies. But when one Mickey survives after being presumed dead, there are now two Mickeys on Niflheim – which would result in both being eliminated.

“Parasite” director Bong Joon-Ho dropped by the Colosseum stage in Las Vegas for Warner Bros.’ CinemaCon presentation to offer his first full look at “Mickey 17,” his ambitious sci-fi starring Robert Pattinson. Though the trailer seen in Vegas wasn’t released online after the presentation, this was the first look at it since a teaser was released in December 2022, so we’ve been waiting a while.
Though the movie was pushed back from a release this year to now open in January 2025, we’re impressed by what we saw in Vegas. And Warner Bros. film heads Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy championed the film’s incredible sci-fi vision. They further announced that it will be released in IMAX.
The trailer was a tongue-in-cheek, screwball dystopia of sorts, all scored to Frank Sinatra’s “Ain’t That a Kick In the Head.” We see Pattinson as Mickey, who is an...

Mickey 17 doesn’t hit theaters until January 31, but Warner Bros wanted exhibitors to know that they had the goods.
The pic’s Oscar-winning Parasite filmmaker Bong Joon Ho was in the house at Caesars Colosseum, and it was his first time at the exhibitor-studio confab.
“It’s based on the novel Mickey 7, but we made it Mickey 17, Bong said. “The number is the number of times he dies. I kill him 10 times more. It’s a story of a simple man. It’s a sci-fi movie. It’s hard to say sci-fi — it’s a human story.”
The first look got rousing applause and was rather comical, set to the Dean Martin tune “Ain’t That a Kick in the Head?” Pattinson’s character is an expendable, and his job is to die several times through various experiments on a ship deep in space. We literally see him...

Warner Bros’ first big splash at its 2024 CinemaCon presentation today was George Miller’s Furiosa.
Taking the stage were Miller and stars Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth, who were interviewed by Warner Bros co-bosses Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy.
“To tell the story of Mad Max, we had to know where every vehicle, every character, every prop, every gesture came from,” Miller said. “We wrote backstories of Furiosa overall these years and Mad Max the year before. When Fury Road had enough traction, we figured we had to do Furiosa.”
The trio showed off an extended first look today. We see Hemswroth’s Dementus, who’s something of white linen-clad prophet. He’s brought a young Furiosa. They live in, natch, a radical world where we see Furiosa’s mother crucified. “I remember your face and your memory,” says Taylor-Joy’s Furiosa in what is a revenge tale. Lots of fire,...

It is now written that Lisan Al Gaib shall prosper at his home at Warner Bros. Amid all the controversial decisions made by the famous water tower studio, the company recognizes that they can sometimes have their cake and eat it too. Margot Robbie’s company LuckyChap signed a first-look deal with Warners after the massive success of Barbie, and the actress has been aiming to bring some plucky creativity to projects that would have otherwise only capitalized on the name of the IP. The studio has also recently signed notable deals with Tom Cruise and Rian Johnson. Recently, the studio has shown that it has the makings of a newer, better class of franchise, with Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two becoming a giant hit.

Warner Bros. is making a commitment to stay in the Timothee Chalamet business. The legendary studio has signed the actor to a multi-year, first-look deal, which represents a sizable show of faith in the 28-year-old A-list star. But following the success of monster hits such as last year's "Wonka" and both "Dune" movies, it would be hard to blame WB for going all-in on Chalamet at this point.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, specifics of the deal have not been disclosed, but the deal extends to feature projects that Chalamet would both star in and produce. It also appears the deal is limited to movies and may not extend to TV. Chalamet had this to say about it in a statement:
"Working with Mike De Luca, Pam Abdy and their teams on Wonka and Dune over these last few years has been a deeply rewarding experience. These are studio heads who believe in real movie making,...

In what is no surprise, Warner Bros Motion Picture Group is getting into business with its Dune and Wonka star Timothée Chalamet, and has hammered a multi-year first look feature film deal with the Oscar nominee as actor and producer.
Between the Dune movies and Wonka, Chalamet’s recent pics with the Burbank, CA lot have delivered $1.6 billion to studio coffers. Chalamet became the first actor in over four decades to star in the top two domestic-grossing films released in an 8-month period.
The latest talent deal is one of many hammered out by Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group co-Chairs and CEOs, Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy, as they set their future slate at the studio. Since being announced for the top studio job at Warner Bros back in June 2022, the duo have made deals with Tom Cruise, Jon M. Chu, and T Street’s Rian Johnson and Ram Bergman.

Rian Johnson and Ram Bergman’s company T-Street has signed a two-picture producing deal with Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group.
Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy, who took over as the studio’s co-chairs and CEOs in 2022, orchestrated the deal. It marks the producers’ first collaboration with Warner Bros., having previously worked with Lionsgate on the box office hit “Knives Out,” Netflix on its sequel “Glass Onion,” Disney on “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” and Focus Features on the neo-noir thriller “Brick.” It’s unclear if Johnson will direct either of the two films that he’ll be overseeing at Warner Bros.
“Mike and Pam’s renewed commitment to original storytelling and the theatrical experience make Warner Bros. Discovery an ideal place to help us bring the filmmakers we love to audiences around the world on a grand scale,” said Johnson and Bergman. “We’re thrilled to have them as partners.

As they prepare to start the third installment of the Knives Out trilogy with Daniel Craig to shoot later this year, T-Street partners Rian Johnson and Ram Bergman have made a two-picture producing deal with the Warner Bros Motion Picture Group.
T-Street becomes the latest in a flurry of A-listers to align with studio co-chairs and CEOs Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy, after they made alliances with Tom Cruise and stepped up to acquire a film that reunites writer-director Ryan Coogler and Michael B Jordan in a period genre movie to shoot later this year.

Rian Johnson is headed to the Warner Bros. lot.
The filmmaker’s T-Street banner, which he runs with producing partner Ram Bergman, has inked a two-picture producing pact with Warners, the studio announced Monday. It’s the latest in a series of deals Warners has inked with top talent as it shores up its relationships across Hollywood, even as it has taken some reputational hits in some creative corners for shelving several films. In recent months, Tom Cruise, Margot Robbie and Ryan Coogler have all inked deals with the studio.
As a director, Johnson is known for mind-bending features like Looper, big budget genre entry Star Wars: The Last Jedi and original who dunnit film series Knives Out, which has included sequel Glass Onion and an upcoming third installment, which is aiming to film later this year for Netflix. Paul Thomas Anderson’s next film doesn’t yet have a title, but it does have a release date, and it will even open in IMAX theaters.
Warner Bros. has dated the untitled PTA movie for a release on August 8, 2025. The movie officially stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, Wood Harris, Alana Haim, and Chase Infiniti.
Anderson is writing, directing, and producing the film, now his 10th narrative feature, with Sara Murphy and Adam Somner also producing.
Warner Bros. is calling PTA’s next movie an “event film,” and its release plans on IMAX are a coup for the director and the studio. Little else is known about it, as Anderson loves working in secrecy, but the film is said to be contemporary in its setting, and it’s felt to be his most “commercial” project to date. The film is currently in production in California.

The premiere of FX’s Shōgun delivered a sizable streaming audience worldwide to go along with solid on-air numbers in the United States.
Over its first six days of release, the limited series’ first episode — based on James Clavell’s best-selling 1975 novel — gathered 9 million streaming views globally on Hulu, Disney+ and Star+ (with “view” defined as the now-standard formula of total viewing time divided by running time). According to Disney, that’s the best worldwide debut to date for a Disney General Entertainment scripted series (i.e., one that doesn’t fall under the Marvel, Star Wars, Disney Branded TV, Pixar or National Geographic banners).
Domestically, the premiere episode of Shōgun also scored the best streaming debut for an FX show on Hulu (with an assist from Disney+), edging out the season two opener of The Bear. Outside the United States, Shōgun topped season one of The Kardashians as the...

The debut of the FX limited series “Shōgun” has proven to be a hit with audiences.
The premiere episodes of the 10-episode series has pulled in 9 million views globally across Hulu, Disney+ and Star+ in its first six days of availability, with a view defined as total stream time divided by runtime.
That is high enough to make it the number one scripted series premiere globally for Disney General Entertainment, beating “The Kardashians” Season 1, and the number one premiere of an FX series on Hulu in the U.S. ahead of “The Bear” Season 2. It should be noted, however, that the “Shōgun” viewership also includes Hulu on Disney+
“Shōgun,” based on the James Clavell novel of the same name, has long been a passion project for FX chief John Landgraf, who originally greenlit the show back in 2018. The show has received strong reviews from critics as well, with Variety‘s...
