After taking a look back at House II: The Second Story (a favorite of mine since childhood), House of 1000 Corpses (which celebrated its 20th anniversary last year), the awesomeness of Tales from the Crypt Presents: Demon Knight, the leg smashing in the Stephen King adaptation Misery, three separate moments from John Carpenter’s Big Trouble in Little China, the “Jason vs. Tina” battle in Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood, the “all hell breaks loose” sequence from the start of Zack Snyder’s Dawn of the Dead remake, and the opening sequence of Pitch Black, JoBlo’s own Lance Vlcek is continuing his The Best Scene video series with a look at a moment from the 1994 classic The Crow (watch it Here) – which isn’t just getting a 4K release for its 30 anniversary. It’s also getting a remake.

Yesterday, we saw the first images of what Bill Skarsgard of the It films is going to look like as goth rocker Eric Draven in director Rupert Sanders’ (Snow White and the Huntsman) remake of the 1994 classic The Crow (watch it Here). There weren’t a lot of positive reactions, with many fans comparing Skarsgard’s look – which Sanders said was a mixture of his own look in the ’90s, “when we were squat-raving in London,” with modern influences like Post Malone and Lil Peep – to Jared Leto’s poorly-received version of The Joker in Suicide Squad. One person who took to social media to blast the look of the new Eric Draven was Alex Proyas, who directed the ’94 version of The Crow.
Sharing one of the images, Proyas said, “Eric Draven’s having a bad hair day. Next reboot thanks.” In the comments, he continued to mock the look:...

If you were a teenager in the 1990s (like me!), few things mattered to you like The Crow. The 1994 film captured goth/grunge cool. From its origins as an indie comic book to its legendary soundtrack to its tragic production, The Crow captured the mood of a generation.
Which is to say that the first look at Bill Skarsgård in the upcoming remake of The Crow might be a bit of a shock. And if you were a teenager in the ’90s, your heart isn’t what it used to be, so you might want to sit down. Have a look at the first image of Skarsgård as the titular anti-hero…

30 years after it debuted, The Crow – starring Brandon Lee – is getting a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release in the UK. More here.
The latest example of a movie anniversary to make some of us feel really rather old? That’d be 1994’s The Crow, a film I remember driving through pouring rain to go and see. Famous of course for being the final movie of Brandon Lee, who died in a tragic on-set accident, it’s the best recreation of James O’Barr’s The Crow character on screen to date. A fresh take is due in cinemas this coming summer.
Before that, though, there’s the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray debut of 1994’s The Crow. Directed by Alex Proyas and co-starring Rochelle Davis, Ernie Hudson, Michael Wincott and Bai Ling, the film was an R-rated comic book film at a point where that wasn’t even a contentious thing to be.

We recently heard that Lionsgate has picked up the distribution rights to the reboot of the classic film The Crow (get it Here), which was released by Miramax back in 1994. Before Miramax acquired it, The Crow had originally been set up at Paramount. They decided to let go of it due to the controversy surrounding the on-set death of star Brandon Lee and the amount of violence in the film. So when Paramount acquired Miramax back in 2020, gaining the rights to The Crow in the process, it was like the film had gone full circle. It came back to Paramount. Recently, cinematographer Dariusz Wolski, mentioned a 4K restoration of The Crow would be on the Paramount Plus streaming service soon. While it hasn’t hit streaming yet, Blu-Ray.com announced that the 4K Blu-ray is set to come out on May 7th to mark the film’s 30th anniversary.

Alien and Aliens are two of the most highly respected and beloved sci-fi horror films ever made… and all of the films that have followed have either been divisive in one way or another, or just flat-out poorly received. One of the least popular entries in the franchise is the 1997 installment Alien: Resurrection (watch it Here), which put some fans off with its wild and weird tone and its crazy ideas. Decades down the line, Alien: Resurrection director Jean-Pierre Jeunet is currently doing the press rounds to promote a theatrical re-release of his very popular 2001 romantic comedy Amélie, and JoBlo’s own Tyler Nichols took the opportunity to ask him about the making of his Alien sequel. Here’s how it went:
Tyler Nichols: I’m also a big horror fan, so I have to ask you about your work on Alien: Resurrection. Because I still think of the underwater...

Some movies can be so iconic that they accidentally end up damaging their own genre in the long run. For instance, we’re all aware of how cyberpunk has been living in the shadow of Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner since 1984, with it being nearly impossible to tell a story about a futuristic dystopia without bringing out the flying cars and neon signage. Fortunately, there are exceptions to this rule, and one of my personal favorites happens to be Kathryn Bigelow’s 1995 sci-fi thriller Strange Days.
A genre-bending murder mystery that takes place in the “distant” future of 1999, this special little film has aged spectacularly well despite its pre-millennial DNA, tackling pertinent issues like race relations and police corruption while also telling a surprisingly engaging love story. This is precisely why I think revisiting this retro-futuristic New Year’s extravaganza is the perfect way to start off 2024 with a bang.

Lionsgate is resurrecting The Crow reboot after prolonged difficulties taking flight. Under an eight-figure domestic deal, the studio is ready to give the reimagining of the 1994 cult classic the effort it deserves. Rupert Sanders directs, with Bill Skarsgård and musician FKA twigs leading the cast.
Based on the comic book series created, written, and illustrated by James O’Barr, The Crow tells the story of Eric Draven, a tortured soul brought back to life by a crow after the brutal rape and murder of his wife, Shelly Webster. Returned from the dead, Draven channels the regenerative powers of the crow to get revenge on the criminals responsible for his pain and torment. Alex Proyas directs the 1994 cult classic, starring Brandon Lee as Eric Draven, with Michael Wincott, Rochell Davis, Ernie Hudson, David Patrick Kelly, and Bai Ling.

“Nope” standout Brandon Perea is going from surveying one (alien) storm system to chasing another — with the actor signing on to star in the upcoming “Twister” sequel.
Perea joins Daisy Edgar-Jones, Glen Powell and Anthony Ramos in “Twisters,” directed by “Minari” helmer Lee Isaac Chung from a script by “The Revenant” writer Mark L. Smith.
The film, from Universal Pictures, Warner Bros. and Amblin Entertainment, is described as a “new chapter” of the 1996 movie, which followed a team of storm chasers as they hunted down the most powerful tornado in decades. Plot details, including Perea’s role, are being kept under wraps.
“Twisters” is slated for release on July 19, 2024.
The original “Twister” was a massive hit, earning more than $494 million at the worldwide box office, which is often credited to the film’s ground-breaking special effects. Starring Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton, the film was helmed by “Speed” director Jan De Bont...

Tom Sizemore passed away on March 3, 2023, about two weeks after suffering an aneurysm. Once one of Hollywood's most ubiquitous supporting actors, he was always a reliable presence in any film he appeared in, with his trademark ice-cold stare and husky laugh. He also possessed a truly unique attribute: a brooding, taciturn toughness that has become increasingly rare these days, shared by the likes of Michael Madsen, Chris Penn, and Ray Liotta.
Sizemore was a cut above those guys, though, with an uncanny ability to turn his heavy-lidded, sparkling eyes from charming to chilling at the drop of a hat. Look at the actor's cameo in "Enemy Of The State." He essentially plays a comic role, a broad, larger-than-life mobster, and yet when he shifts gears to a more intimidating presence, it doesn't feel jarring, but genuinely menacing instead.

Dystopian science fiction movies often reveal as much about the time they were made as the future they are predicting, although few films have the poles set as closely together as Kathryn Bigelow's "Strange Days." Controversial at the time for its disturbing depiction of sexual violence and racial injustice, the dark neo-noir was released in 1995, slap-bang between its incendiary vision of a society teetering on the brink of chaos at the turn of the millennium and the incident that provided a catalyst to get it to the screen, namely the brutal beating of Rodney King by LAPD officers in 1991.
Reaction from critics was mixed, often praising its atmosphere and technical prowess while questioning Bigelow's judgment and motives, and audiences didn't really know what to do with it. As a result, it bombed at the box office, making back just 8 million against its 42 million budget (via Box Office Mojo).

It’s been a rough year and I know I’m not the only one. The harsh reality that the Covid-19 pandemic has become a part of everyday life, despite the fact that a lot of people continue to ignore it, coupled with the fact that just living day to day has become a major struggle for a lot of us this year, has led to folks looking for some form of escape, even if it’s brief. That’s where movies, television, and games come in. Movies are my escape. Movies make me happy. Talking to filmmakers about making movies makes me happy. I love all kinds of movies, but horror is my favorite genre. Horror is the genre I visit daily. I know I’ve said it in previous years, but damn, 2022 has been an amazing year for horror, which just so happens to be the genre most...

New Year’s Day and New Year’s Eve are not exactly known for having movies made about them, at least compared to the volumes of movies made about Christmas. However, there are some movies about that transition time and some of them are great to watch during that short period after Christmas and before life returns to the usual humdrum of work and responsibilities. Here are a few of our favorites:
Happy New Year, Charlie Brown! (1986)
Seemingly, every major holiday has a Charlie Brown special. Well, almost. New Year’s is not to be left out and got its own Charlie Brown special in 1986. While most folks will think of Charlie Brown as a Christmas cartoon or a Halloween one, this special is actually quite good. 2022 has been an interesting year for movies, with some of the big blockbuster spectacles getting a lot of attention, smaller ones desperately looking for audiences, and lingering questions about the future of the theater experience past the event films. First time directors and musical delights painted the cinema canvas with mesmerizing swaths of biographical and semi-autobiographical themes, adult dramas, independent and international films, and the crowd pleaser, Rrr.

Get Out and Us writer/director Jordan Peele’s “horror epic” Nope (read our review Here – our reviewer JimmyO gave the film a 9/10 score) had a successful run at the box office, pulling in over 171 million worldwide, and is now available on home video. You can buy at This Link and watch it at This Link. Now we’re heading into awards season… and Universal is looking to score some Oscar nominations for the film. Jordan Peele debuted on the horror scene with Get Out back in 2017, which won him the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. The film was also nominated in the Best Motion Picture of the Year, Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role, and Best Achievement in Directing categories, and Peele is hoping to return to the Academy Awards with his third horror movie.
Unquestionably one of this year’s best, Jordan Peele’s Nope is getting a full-on Oscar campaign from Universal Pictures, with the film receiving a new “For Your Consideration” trailer today.
Peele’s Nope is seeking consideration in “all eligible categories” for next year’s Academy Awards, and it’s not hard to imagine the film getting nominations in several categories. For starters, Best Original Screenplay, Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role, and Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role nominations are surely on the table.

Nope's cast features Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer, Steven Yeun, Barbie Ferreira, Michael Wincott, Donna Mills, and Terry Notary. With the awards season in full swing in Hollywood, Universal wants to remind people that this movie and its director Jordan Peele both deserve plenty of attention, too. For every movie fan there are probably several films they can count as milestones, movies that became big parts of our viewing, even of our lives. Robin Hood Prince of Thieves was one of those for me. It came out at the perfect time, when I was 10. The screenplay had simple heroism, the villain was an obvious baddie you could boo and hiss at if the mood took you, there was plenty of action and even as a cut PG, it stretched the edges of its certification to a point that was an intense and sometimes scary experience for a relatively young kid. I loved it. Along with Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves became one of my first favourite movies. It's not every day that young actors with few credits to their name (and especially those of color) manage to put themselves in a position for the role of a lifetime — let alone one in a Jordan Peele movie. When the "Get Out" and "Us" writer/director first began to tease early footage from the UFO-themed "Nope" (which /Film's Chris Evangelista reviewed here), fans quickly gravitated towards the obvious scene-stealers: Daniel Kaluuya in his second collaboration with Peele, Keke Palmer as the fiery and charming Emerald Haywood, and especially Steven Yeun in an understated supporting role that packed much more of a punch than anyone was probably expecting.
But in the midst of it all, actor Brandon Perea quietly flew under the radar as the Fry's employee Angel Torres. Once viewers finally got to see the film for themselves, however, this hapless tech expert soon became one of the stand-out highlights of the entire film.

Jordan Peele’s highly anticipated third feature film, “Nope,” has finally arrived.
The film follows Peele’s first two horror films as a writer/director, 2017’s “Get Out” and 2019’s “Us.” Known for his comedy and leading role in “Key and Peele,” Peele has quickly become a draw for fans as a filmmaker and “Nope,” unlike Peele’s first two films, leans heavily into the sci-fi genre with a blockbuster-sized budget. Peele reteamed with Daniel Kaluuya on the film, which finds a brother and sister duo trying to catch UFOs on camera.

Peacock has announced that Jordan Peele’s UFO thriller “Nope” will hit the streamer on Nov. 18.
The sci-fi drama stars Daniel Kaluuya and Keke Palmer as siblings Oj and Emerald as they attempt to expose signs of alien life on their desolate Western horse ranch. After they see what appears to be a giant undulating flying saucer in the distance, they have plans to capture their ominous encounters on camera in order to sell the footage and get rich. For help, they call on the analog cinematographer Antlers Holst (Michael Wincott) and a theme park ringleader played by Steven Yeun, but horror ensues as they chase the spectacle.
The film, which follows Peele’s wildly successful debut “Get Out” and 2019’s “Us,” collected more than 100 million in North America after three weeks on the big screen.

Bill Skarsgard played the genre icon Pennywise in the two recent adaptations of Stephen King’s It. Earlier today, it was announced that he’s going to be playing genre icon Count Orlok in Robert Eggers’ remake of the silent classic Nosferatu. In between these two roles, he has also spent some time working on a remake of The Crow (watch it Here) – where he’s taking on the role of Eric Draven, which was made iconic by Brandon Lee in the original film. The Prague Reporter has now broken the news that The Crow remake has wrapped production after ten weeks of filming in the Prague area.
Here’s the report:
During a lengthy 10-week shoot, The Crow shot across numerous locations in the Old Town and New Town neighborhoods of the Czech capital. One of the major set pieces for The Crow was shot at Prague’s Rudolfinum concert hall,...

Jordan Peele’s third feature, “Nope,” focuses on a group of characters attempting to track down an unidentified flying object spotted in the air around the Agua Dulce desert. Many of the film’s scenes take place in the dead of night, but as Peele describes it, the majority of them weren’t filmed at night. Instead, cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema shot most of the scenes during the day using some innovative technological approaches.
“I haven’t wanted to ruin the illusion, but I’ll ruin it for you today,” Peele said at a Toronto International Film Festival Q&a on Sept. 12. “The night shots, for the most part, were shot in the day, which is due to a technological and strategic thing that [Hoytema] brought to the table. “
Peele and Hoytema spoke at a special screening of “Nope” at the Cinesphere IMAX Theatre, in a conversation moderated by TIFF CEO Cameron Bailey.

Nope (2022).The actual process of making movies is mostly drudgery. Filmmakers, having invented a new form of glamor, don’t like to talk about that very much, preferring to show those above the line stewing, pouting and yelling. Dramatic conflict, it seems, only comes with top billing. On any production, these figures are surrounded by skilled artists and technicians going about the business of making, which, in popular understanding, never quite adds up to filmmaking. Jordan Peele’s latest film, Nope, is a strange amalgam of various genres yoked together under the framework of an alien abduction movie, but there is nothing so unexpected as its decision to tell the story of Hollywood from the vantage point of these crew members. These are the people who make movies happen, but are, at best, set decoration when it comes time to tell cinema’s story; they're often so far below the...

It appears that Oscar-winning filmmaker Jordan Peele may not be done with the world of his acclaimed third feature, Nope.
Peele hinted at the potential for further films set in the Nope universe in an interview with the New York Times published on Monday, after being asked about a character listed on IMDb as “Nobody,” who has caught the attention of the internet. While Michael Busch is credited there with the role, the character isn’t one that appears in the film, even if he was depicted in its final trailer.
So, what’s going on there? “People are doing a lot of interesting detective work, is what’s going on,” said Peele. “The story of that character has yet to be told, I can tell you that. Which is another frustrating way of saying, I’m glad people are paying attention.”

Jordan Peele has made three movies to date, all of them passing 100 million at the domestic box office but none of them spawning sequels. Peele, instead, has continued to dream up fresh new nightmares for audiences to absorb, the latest of which is this year’s Nope.

Jordan Peele loves a good twist.
The writer/director behind “Get Out” and “Us” is used to pulling the rug out from under audiences and his latest genre-bending experiment, “Nope,” is no different. While Peele’s new movie isn’t as reliant on twists, it still has a few big reveals and plenty more to discuss.
“Nope” follows Otis Jr. (or “Oj”) Haywood (Daniel Kaluuya) and his sister Emerald (Keke Palmer), who take over their family ranch and stunt business following the untimely and mysterious death of their father (genre legend Keith David). While attempting to sort out the business in the months following his passing, they begin being menaced by something sinister in the sky above the farm. Eventually they enlist the help of a local electronics store employee (Brandon Perea) and a grizzled cinematographer (Michael Wincott) to try to catch the phenomena on camera, while the neighboring old...

Jordan Peele’s “Nope,” which recently crossed the 100 million threshold at the domestic box office, is the “Get Out” filmmaker’s self-described “great American UFO story.” “Nope” is just as thoughtful and provocative as Peele’s earlier movies (“Get Out” and “Us”), but much grander in scope and more technically complex – it’s a big movie, largely filmed in IMAX, that absolutely envelops you.
“Nope” follows a pair of siblings (played by Daniel Kaluuya and Keke Palmer), who inherit their father’s horse ranch following his mysterious death. (He was struck by falling debris from something.) They come from a long line of horse trainers/stunt performers and are desperate to keep the business afloat. But they’ve got other things to deal with – mainly the sinister flying saucer that seems to be hiding in a cloud just above their property, as well as the former-child-star-turned-theme-park-impresario living next door (Steven Yeun...

Is there an American filmmaker working today who is more in tune with the blockbusters of the past, the movies he is building on, than Jordan Peele? I’m not sure there is. I’m even more confident that no one is doing anything like what Peele has been up to with the three films he’s given us so far: he’s actively reexamining genre tropes, reframing the cultural contexts in which they exist, refocusing their perspective — reconsidering, well, everything about the kinds of stories they’re telling.
Peele keeps giving us more of the stuff we’ve loved for the past 50-plus years without simply xeroxing what has come before. He put a racially aware spin on paranoid science fiction and body horror with 2017’s Get Out. With 2019’s Us, he consciously called up 80s Spielbergian wonders, then interrogated and replied to those fantasies. Now, with Nope, he...

Just a little over a month after its initial theater release, Jordan Peele’s highly anticipated third feature film “Nope” will be available to purchase digitally this Friday.

Although its price isn’t listed yet, it can be assumed that it’ll cost around 30 considering the price of other buzzy digital releases such as “Everything Everywhere All at Once” and “The Rise of Gru.”
The UFO thriller stars Keke Palmer and Daniel Kaluuya as sibling, Oj and Emerald, who discover signs of alien life — namely a giant undulating flying saucer — on their horse ranch and attempt to photograph their ominous encounters in order to sell them and get rich. In order to catch the phantom spaceship on film, they...

After seeing Nope it became crystal clear that unlike his last two films, Get Out and Us, Nope portrays Peele’s ability to not only entertain us but can make us have fun right alongside the scares.
Nope feels like a throwback in so many ways, and in so many more Peele has found a way to bring a Spielberg summer blockbuster from the 70s into the modern world. Not only does the film entertain, but has...
