Serena Williams will be the host of the 2024 Espy Awards.
ESPN announced the pick of the tennis legend as this year’s Espys host during Disney’s upfront presentation to advertisers Tuesday, with American Idol host Ryan Seacrest breaking the news on stage. The event will be held July 11.
The Espy Awards are ESPN’s annual awards show celebrating the best of sports. Last year Patrick Mahomes and LeBron James were among the big winners, and for the first time the program went without a host (due in part to the ongoing Writers Guild strike).
Williams, of course, retired from professional tennis nearly two years ago.
That being said, she has kept busy, with media being one of her top priorities. Williams inked a two-book deal with Random House Publishing last year, beginning with an “intimate” memoir.

Carrie-Anne Moss, best known for her iconic role as Trinity in 'The Matrix' franchise, is set to join Arnold Schwarzenegger and the cast of "FUBAR" for the show's second season on Netflix.
Moss will play Greta Nelso, described as a former East German spy who has a "passionate history" with Schwarzenegger's character, Luke Brunner. In the new season, Luke finds himself facing off against villains from his past, including an old flame (Moss) who threatens to destroy the world.
"We're thrilled to welcome Carrie-Anne Moss to the cast of "FUBAR" for what promises to be an action-packed second season," said creator and showrunner Nick Santora. "Her character Greta Nelso adds an exciting new dynamic as a nuanced adversary with complicated ties to Arnold's Luke Brunner."
In addition to Schwarzenegger and Moss, Season 2 will see the return of Monica Barbaro, Fortune Feimster, Travis Van Winkle, Jay Baruchel, Aparna Brielle, Andy Buckley, Milan Carter, Fabiana Udenio, and Barbara Eve Harris.
The satirical spy series, produced by Skydance Television, follows CIA operative Luke Brunner (Schwarzenegger) who finds himself thrust back into action after saving his daughter during an intended retirement mission in Season 1.
The series' first season garnered praise for its offbeat blend of action, comedy, and family dynamics anchored by Schwarzenegger's first major TV role. Season 2 will continue exploring those elements while raising the stakes with new threats for Brunner to confront.
A release date for the eight-episode season has not been announced yet. The series is executive produced by Santora, Schwarzenegger, Adam Higgs, Scott Sullivan, and others.

Brad Fiorenza is one of the most seasoned veterans in the cast of The Challenge: All Stars Season 4, and he knows better than anyone that this was simply not his season. It started out strongly enough. Once the vet-heavy cast got settled into their Capetown, South Africa-set mansion, they competed in an individual challenge that saw him finish in second, beating out every other guy in the game. However, once the team challenges got underway — and so many of them were tricky brain games — Fiorenza found himself in the bottom more often than not. Following his exit from the game, TV Insider caught up with Brad Fiorenza to find out his perspective on the season, what fans might not have seen, and what exactly was going on with that baby towel situation. This season, you seem to have a little bit of trouble. But the thing was, in the first challenge,...

At least some things in television don’t change.
Jimmy Kimmel still chews up the business like the late, great Hannibal Lecter, a wonderful man as I’ve heard somewhere recently. On Tuesday Kimmel had the broadcast/cable/streaming business for dinner—or a late-afternoon snack—with a nice Chianti.
After an unplanned two-year absence due to a case of Covid and the writers’ strike, Kimmel, who is now the signature star of ABC, thanks to running the late-night anchor leg for 21 years (and recently killing it as host of the Oscars), was back at the Disney Upfront presentation Tuesday, slinging his familiar barbs at both his employers and everybody else’s.
“We are bundling,” he said, talking of what’s happening at Disney+ and all the other big streamers. “While from the outside, this may look like an act of desperation, from the inside, it also looks like that.

Missed Monday’s late-night monologues? We’ve got you covered with our round-up of the night’s best laughs from across the dial.
When the Cohen Gets Rough
Former Donald Trump pal and legal “fixer” Michael Cohen continued to undergo cross examination in a New York courtroom on Tuesday, as Trump’s current lawyers attempted to paint the former lawyer/henchman as a crude, self-promoting narcissist—apparently after forgetting who they’re representing. Cohen persisted in delivering the damning goods in Trump’s business/election fraud hush money trial, providing a fetid trove of incriminating texts, recollections, and documents that paint his former best buddy as, well, a crude, self-promoting narcissist.
For late-night hosts, these daily court rundowns are likewise a mixed blessing of sordid insider details and present-day GOP monkeyshines. Or, as Stephen Colbert put it, “It’s been a real case of déjà ewwww.”

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for The Good Doctor Season 7 Episode 9, “Unconditional.”] The penultimate episode of The Good Doctor just staged not one, but two massive cliffhangers in its final moments. TV Insider caught up with showrunners David Shore and Liz Friedman to discuss what this means for The Good Doctor series finale, which airs Tuesday, May 21 at 10/9c on ABC. Dr. Claire Browne (Antonia Thomas) returned in The Good Doctor Season 7 Episode 9. She came back to San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital from her practice in Guatemala for treatment on a lump in her breast, which scans at her practice said were benign. Tests at St. Bonaventure confirmed the original diagnosis was wrong. Claire did, in fact, have breast cancer. A treatment plan was immediately set in place, and while the first surgery didn’t get clear margins when removing the mass, a second procedure seemed to have done the trick. Claire was up and moving...

Returning champ Will Stewart played a game of high-risk, high-reward in Jeopardy‘s May 14 episode. Fans are praising by his risky bet on a Daily Double, with some saying that it would have been a thrilling bet whether he answered the prompt correctly or not. It’s a good thing he did, because that bet cleared the path for Stewart’s runaway victory. Stewart is a a political organizer originally from Nashville, Tennessee. Playing against him in the episode was Omar Ahmed, an analytics manager from Old Hickory, Tennessee; and Ashley Atkin, a stay-at-home mom & part-time graduate student from Jerome, Idaho. A runaway game in Jeopardy! is when one player’s score is so high, it’s more than double the score of their competitors. It would take a substantial loss in Final Jeopardy for the player in first place to lose in this scenario, but it is does happen semi-regularly on the game show.

So, we asked! One of the tidbits we uncovered involves Dove’s number one suspect, the former smuggler Seamus (David Wilmot). He memorably gags Gilbert with the reporter’s recorder: “I remember all that went into thinking about the recorder being shoved into my mouth,” Forte says. “I was so scared that it was going to knock my teeth out!

Dearest readers: It’s Bridgerton Week at IndieWire. We’re celebrating the new season by diving deep on one of the best romance shows on TV.

Jimmy Kimmel is, without fail, the highlight of TV’s upfronts week every year; 2024 was no exception.
The “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” host left no stone unturned in his annual profane and ruthless takedown of everything Disney (and everyone else in Hollywood) wants to sell to advertisers. This year that included the new Disney+ bundle with Hulu and Max, Netflix finally kissing the asses of said advertisers, the AMPTP, “The Golden Bachelor,” and finding a catchy new name for that sports-streaming service Disney is working on with Fox and Warner Bros. Discovery.
He started things off with a huge announcement: Bob Iger’s successor at Disney as CEO is… an artificially intelligent Bob Iger clone. AIger.
“Bob isn’t going anywhere ever again anywhere,” Kimmel said. “We uploaded him to the cloud so that we can live in peace and prosperity under the watchful AI of the Iger. All hail AIger!

“Jimmy Kimmel Live!” host Jimmy Kimmel once again shared the Disney upfronts stage on Tuesday, providing his zingers in person for advertisers and media buyers at the programming presentation for the first time in five years. That’s because last year Kimmel didn’t attend due to the Hollywood WGA strikes. And in 2022, he was in New York — but had to be beamed in to do his routine after testing positive for Covid. (The 2021 and 2020 upfronts were virtual because of the pandemic.)

Like millions of people around the world, Sam and Nia Rader’s lives were upended after Ashley Madison’s user data was released to the public — but up until that point, they appeared to live a picture-perfect life as a Christian couple. In Ashley Madison: Sex, Lies & Scandal, Sam and Nia go before the camera to reveal what happened before, during, and after the popular website for arranging extramarital affairs was hacked.
“It’s still shocking to me that things like this exist,” Nia tells Tudum.
Before the hack, Sam and Nia regularly filmed the minutiae of their family’s daily lives — grocery trips, car rides — and packaged them into vlogs for their popular YouTube channel. Over the years, the Rader family’s antics caught broader attention more than once. In 2014, at the height of the worldwide popularity of Frozen, Sam and Nia lip-synced along to one of the...

Jabbar Raisani had hit a wall. He had done second unit directing on “Game of Thrones,” he was a seasoned visual effects artist and two-time Emmy winner for “Thrones,” and he even directed his first indie feature. But he couldn’t get that next job and make the jump to what he really wanted to be: an episodic TV director.
“I was really looking for any avenues that I could to help to expand my network and to increase my opportunities and chances of actually booking an episode,” Raisani told IndieWire. “I was getting lots of meetings, but not a lot of opportunities.”
So as a South Asian filmmaker from San Antonio, Raisani turned to some of the many diversity incubator programs set up across Hollywood to set himself apart from the many white dude directors flooding the space. He had participated with programs led by NBC, Sony, what was then Viacom,...

The theme of Disney’s 2024 upfront presentation to advertisers Tuesday was “connections” — and not just because of the running bit started by “Deadpool” star Ryan Reynolds and “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” star Rob McElhenney, which involved their constant replaying of a five-second ad spot that said “Connections!” with a Disneyified logo and voiceover.

Oh, this is such delicious casting! But what else would we expect from the chilling Evil? Richard Kind and John Carroll Lynch will guest star, and Danny Burstein will return, throughout the show’s four bonus episodes—and Leland Townsend (Michael Emerson) is on trial, TV Insider has learned exclusively. These were the episodes Paramount+ ordered to wrap up the series once it was determined the upcoming fourth season would be its last. Kind will guest star as Judge Joseph Jeter. He is a seemingly by-the-books, straight-arrow judge who is overseeing Leland Townsend’s trial and values efficiency at all costs. Lynch plays Henry Stick, the attorney assigned to Leland Townsend. He appears to be a bumbling, barely competent lawyer, but fortunately for Leland, Henry Stick proves to have greater power than is initially evident. Burstein is reprising his role as Da Lewis Cormier. He previously appeared in four episodes...

Now Hulu's giving us our first look at the new season, which it's dubbed the "starriest" one yet.
