It’s back. Black MirrorSeason 6 returned June 15 and was the most unpredictable season yet.
There’s always been an element of the unexpected baked into the dark, satirical anthology, but with Season 6, creator Charlie Brooker tells Tudum that he even surprised himself.
“I’ve always felt that Black Mirror should feature stories that are entirely distinct from one another, and keep surprising people — and myself — or else what’s the point? It should be a series that can’t be easily defined, and can keep reinventing itself,” the writer, creator and executive producer said.
So that’s exactly what he did. Not every episode of the new season will be exactly what you’re expecting — but that’s the whole point.
“Partly as a challenge, and partly to keep things fresh for both me and the viewer, I began this season by deliberately upending some of my own core assumptions...

It’s well known that in her decades-long career, Shonda Rhimes — the writer behind such television sensations as “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Scandal” and “Bridgerton” — has smashed pervasive racist-casting tropes, and in doing so, changed the literal face of TV, whether that meant having “Scandal” revolve around Kerry Washington’s antihero Olivia Pope or elevating Regé-Jean Page to thirsty heights as a Black duke in Regency England on “Bridgerton.”
What’s talked about less is how Rhimes has changed the way people speak. Any parent of a teenager who’s heard the derisive usage of “pick me” from Meredith’s “Pick me!

The Idea of You, based on Robinne Lee’s novel of the same name, isn’t just about a woman falling in love with a pop star. Solène (Anne Hathaway), a 40-year-old single mom, gets involved in a passionate romance with Hayes Campbell (Nicholas Galitzine), the 24-year-old lead singer of the boy band August Moon. Since the book’s release in 2017, there’s been criticism of the age-gap romance at the center of the story.. To some, Solène and Hayes’ relationship is problematic because of their age difference. The backlash resurfaced online ahead of the film adaptation’s release. “I think it’s so derogatory,” director Michael Showalter told TV Insider during SXSW about the age-gap criticism surrounding the movie. “As a director, I feel like I get to know every character in my movies, so I get to experience the emotions of everybody I get ...

Park Chan-wook doesn’t actually know how Robert Downey Jr. responded to his characters in “The Sympathizer.”
The acclaimed Korean director worked with Downey for the first time while adapting Viet Thanh Nguyen’s bestselling novel for HBO, and he expected a big-name star at that level to drag out the negotiation process after getting an offer. To Park’s surprise, Downey circled back quickly, and the two of them started to dig into his character — his characters.
Downey, who also executive produced the series along with wife Susan, plays four characters (so far) in the limited series, each with a unique look and voice and motivations — all of which were built in process. There’s C.I.A. agent Claude, the Orientalist Professor Hammer, filmmaker Niko, and Congressman Ned Godwin, and Downey appears to thoroughly enjoy embodying every single one. Nearly 20 years ago in New York City, a young, restless, teenaged Julia Fox would wait patiently for her neighbors to throw out their trash before sneaking down to the basement and scavenging the recycling bins for magazines she could use to make collages. She would skip over the copy and head straight to the photos — oftentimes of models and streetstyle fashion — and use scissors and glue to reimagine the most striking images into her own creation.

Family Feud likes providing suggestive questions that lure contestants into giving surprising answers, but even host Steve Harvey was shocked by two dirty responses on last Thursday’s (April 25) episode. In a clip shared on the show’s official Instagram page on Friday, April 26, Harvey asks the Maye family to “Name something you stuck your finger in more times than you can count.” A contestant, whom Harvey calls Pastor Warrick, looks uncomfortable as he tries to cover up the microphone with his hand. The long-time host then leans in so Warrick can whisper his answer. But it’s hard to whisper on a TV set equipped with numerous microphones, and everyone hears his guess of “Sexual stuff.” The studio audience immediately starts laughing as a shocked Harvey has to take a moment to collect himself and walks away from the podium. Unfortunately for the Maye family, the answer isn’t on the board.

French actor Gérard Depardieu was taken into police custody today, Monday, April 29, in Paris, France, where he will face questioning over accusations of sexual assault. As reported by CNN, the prolific actor presented himself at a police station in Paris on Monday morning. He is being questioned regarding accusations of sexual assault by two women alleged to have taken place on film sets. This comes after French investigative news website Médiapart published a report in April 2023 detailing claims from 13 women of Depardieu’s alleged sexually inappropriate behavior. The accusations were linked to several films and TV series between 2004 and 2022 and included cases of groping, obscene comments, and inappropriate acts while on set. At the time, Depardieu’s lawyers said the Oscar-nominated actor denied any criminal behavior and also stated that the Médiapart report appeared to be based on “very subjective assessments and/or moral judgments.” In an open letter published last year,...

Two months after angering fans (and apparently John Oliver himself) when it decided to delay its traditional next-day posting of the Sunday night show’s main segment til later in the week, HBO has begun posting full episodes of Last Week Tonight to YouTube. [Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for the Milf Manor Season 2 premiere.] Milf Manor just went there. The TLC reality show returned for Season 2 on April 28 and dropped a bombshell twist in the final moments of the premiere. After the first season’s twist, it seemed there would be no way for the show to top the shock factor. Well, Milf Manor found a way. The Season 2 MILFs met their younger suitors and started to establish connections. Any headway was completely upended when the dads of the suitors arrived at the Canadian manor to enter the dating pool with their sons. “That’s my f**king dad,” a stunned Joey said as he spotted his father in the distance. “The fact that my dad’s turned up has actually like blown my mind,” Jacob said. “Like, that’s probably the last thing that I expected to happen. It feels like a sucker punch. I’m in the ring,...

When “The Sympathizer” showrunner and director Park Chan-Wook brainstormed ideas for HBO’s newest miniseries, one scene struck him as a “quintessential American institution and represented the idea of America.” It took place in a steakhouse with several characters coming together.

Spoiler Alert: This interview contains spoilers for Episode 3 of “The Sympathizer” on HBO.
Phanxine isn’t an actor.
Or so he says, though one might beg to differ after seeing his performance in “Love It or Leave It,” the third episode of HBO’s “The Sympathizer.” Though he’s no stranger to filmmaking, having directed and produced popular features such as the Vietnamese box office hit “Sweet 20,” Phanxine is a first-time performer. In fact, his involvement in “The Sympathizer” only came together after an audition he attended as a prank — more on that later.

[Warning: The below contains spoilers for American Idol.] The Top 10 took the stage during American Idol to perform songs from their birth year. To help them with this trip down memory lane was country superstar Shania Twain, who served as Sunday’s show mentor. Judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan had a front-row seat as the singers aimed to secure a Top 8 slot based on America’s live voting. Breaking up the heat of competition was two homecomings. Idol champs Scotty McCreery and Just Sam stopped by to show the competitors what is possible with their careers. Scotty brought “Cab in a Solo,” and Just Sam took on Whitney Houston’s“One Moment in Time.” Since Just Sam won in 2020 during Covid and the at-home season, it was the first time they performed before a live Idol audience. A powerful moment indeed. Who did host Ryan Seacrest announce making it to the next round?...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for When Calls the Heart Season 11 Episode 4 “Along Came a Spider.”] Lucas (Chris McNally) gets a very unwanted blast from his past, one he’d not exactly been truthful about, when his old “friend,” Jeanette (Cecilia Deacon), comes to Hope Valley on When Calls the Heart. Sure, they’ve gotten into trouble in the past, but she insists she’s just there representing a group of investors interested in the hotel. Lucas doesn’t buy it and spends the episode trying to get Jeanette to leave and keep her from interacting with anyone, especially his ex-fiancée Elizabeth (Erin Krakow). But Jeanette does make sure to introduce herself to Elizabeth just before she leaves. So how much was Lucas not wanting her around about him knowing her tactics and how much was it him not wanting the reminder of who he was? “I think it’s definitely both. Lucas knows Jeanette well...

Reba McEntire is primed to headline a sitcom for the first time in more than a decade with a new NBC pilot, a project that reunites her with producers, writers, and at least one star of her 2000s WB series Reba. The pilot — which McEntire says is titled Happy’s Place — stars the singer as a tavern proprietor named Bobbie. “My dad was the owner, and I’ve been running it for the last ten years, and my dad dies,” she explains to Entertainment Tonight. “So I find out some information at the reading of his will that I’m not too happy with, so…” That information is that she has a half-sister, played by Belissa Escobedo (Blue Beetle), who’s joining the tavern team as her new business partner. Reba costar Melissa Peterman, meanwhile, will play Gabby, a clingy bartender who wishes she could be Bobbie’s sister, according to Deadline.

Charles (Jayden Revri) and Edwin (George Rexstrew) would move heaven and earth and the entire underworld for each other. In Dead Boy Detectives, the duo spends their afterlife solving mysteries for the undead, but the love they have for each other is at the heart of the show. Somewhere during their decades together, Edwin’s feelings for Charles started to shift. He develops romantic feelings for his best friend and eventually confesses his love after Charles rescues him from Hell. Co-showrunner Steve Yockey tells TV Insider that the “goal” of the first season was always to “tell the story of Edwin’s discovery of his identity. And not just the discovery of his identity after 100 years of being dead, but 60 years of that spent in Hell.” As you see in the first season, Edwin begins to recognize his sexual identity for the first time. Since Edwin lived during the Edwardian era,...

Think about it: Can you name a recent series that gives off Dawson’s Creek, The O.C. or even Pretty Little Liars energy? Shows that offer incredible melodrama, characters you simultaneously love/can’t stand and baffling storytelling choices in a high school setting? Not considering the supernatural ones — if only because their scope tends to reach too far beyond high school — we can count this type of all-engrossing youth drama on one hand. The teen soap output from The CW, Freeform (née ABC Family) and MTV has become all but nonexistent.

Despite being fearful of saying farewell to Food Network after 21 years, Giada De Laurentiis‘s departure has brought her happiness and a feeling of fulfillment. The television host and chef personality cut ties with the network in February 2023 and signed a multi-year deal for unscripted series production with Amazon Studios. She has also been exploring entrepreneurial endeavors with her own lifestyle brand, Giadzy. Earlier this week, De Laurentiis sat down with Rebecca Minkoff on her podcast, Superwoman, to discuss why she ultimately decided to leave Food Network and how she has been changing things up since then. “I would switch gears without knowing it every seven years,” said De Laurentiis. “So I did Everyday Italian for seven years. Then I got pregnant, and I was like ‘Okay I can’t do that show anymore. I got to do a reincarnation of the show because I’m now pregnant. I’m a different person.

As has been the case in The Equalizer from the beginning, what Robyn (Queen Latifah) does and keeping that secret affects not just her, but those around her. And sure, Vi (Lorraine Toussaint) and Delilah (Laya DeLeon Hayes) know, but Vi’s girlfriend, Trish (Gloria Rueben), remains in the dark—and that’s a source of conflict in that relationship right now. But given the scope of what Robyn does as she helps people using her skills as a former CIA operative, and that that’s something that she would then have to keep secret, there is the question of whether Trish would want to know. When TV Insider asked Gloria Reuben just that question, she confirmed she would. “I think honesty is key, and I think that she feels that way for sure. If secrets need to be kept in order to protect or honor certain parameters of someone’s extended family,...
