Following the huge success of his Prime Video rom-coms The Idea of You and Red, White & Royal Blue, Nicholas Galitzine is staying in business with Amazon MGM, as he’s been tapped to star as He-Man in the live-action Masters of the Universe flick from the studio and Mattel Films.

In Michael Showalter’s The Idea of You, it’s hard to miss the enchanting presence of the Tag Heuer Aquaracer. Far from being just an accessory, this timepiece plays a significant and symbolic role, effectively becoming a ‘third character’ in the movie. Their unexpected romance unfolds amidst a whirlwind of complications and scrutiny. However, nestled within this compelling narrative is the Tag Heuer watch that serves as more than just a fashion statement. Emphasizing Character Dynamics From the outset, the watch is

The Idea of You, now streaming on Prime Video, has stirred mixed reactions among its fans, especially due to its ending. Robinne Lee, the author of the book behind the movie, has been vocal about her preferences for the original narrative’s conclusion. In a conversation with Entertainment Weekly, Robinne Lee revealed that she was not involved at all in the adaptation process and had not even met the director, Michael Showalter. She further added, You hope they’ll keep to what you’ve written because it meant something to you, but you also have to think about the box office and viewers

Oscar-winning producer Cathy Schulman knows her way around a theatrical release. From “Crash” to “The Woman King,” the long-time Hollywood heavy-hitter has wide-ranging taste that’s earned her both a Best Picture win and millions of box office bucks. But as the theatrical landscape shifts — heck, as the entire entertainment industry shifts — Schulman is staying nimble. These days, that means something that would have sounded crazy a decade ago: a massive hit that goes straight to streaming.
That’s the case with Schulman’s latest, the Michael Showalter-directed Amazon MGM Studios smash “The Idea of You,” a sexy rom-com-dram based on Robinne Lee’s bestselling novel and starring Anne Hathaway and rising star Nicholas Galitzine. In just two weeks on Prime Video, the film has smashed up all sorts of streaming records, handily proving that people do want to watch at home, they will turn out for a streaming-only release,...

Maybe it’s the way Nicholas Galitzine walked straight into our hearts and stole it — through the doors and past the guards, just like he already owned it. Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine’s age-gap romantic adventure “The Idea of You” attracted nearly 50 million worldwide viewers in its first two weeks on Prime Video, becoming Amazon MGM’s No. 1 romantic-comedy debut of all time, according to the studio.
As Amazon did not detail exactly what counts as a “view,” it should be noted that streaming viewership numbers self-reported by platforms still come with many caveats. Some brands solely report total minutes or hours watched, while others divide that total by each projects runtime to arrive at an estimated number of views. Streamers almost never disclose the exact number of viewers who watched the entirety of their titles, and as Amazon did not define their metric regarding “The Idea of You,” it is possible that a significant portion of the 50 million reporter viewers only watched a short piece of the movie.

Back in 2017, Robinne Lee dropped by a local L.A. news station for an interview promoting her role in “Fifty Shades Darker,” the second film in the steamy series based on books by E.L. James.
“You’re venturing out a little bit now with a new novel…” the Kcal anchor said to Lee, whose filmography already included “Deliver Us From Eva,” “Hitch” and “13 Going on 30,” teeing the actor up to mention her career pivot. “I have a novel coming out this spring called ‘The Idea of You,’” Lee replied, grinning.
The premise was unique: A divorced mother and art gallery owner, living in L.A. on the precipice of turning 40, takes her daughter to a concert meet-and-greet and the 20-year-old lead singer of the band falls in love with her. The story, Lee explained, was “as much about a love story complicated by celebrity and the underbelly of...

Delving Into The Idea of You Film vs Book Ending On May 2nd, Prime Video released ‘The Idea of You’, a film adaptation that tells a touching story of Solène Marchand, played by Anne Hathaway, who finds herself in a romantic fling with Hayes Campbell, a young British pop star, portrayed by Nicholas Galitzine. As with many adaptations, the translation from book to screen brought noteworthy changes, especially in the ending. Director’s Vision for a Hopeful Conclusion Contrary to the novel’s more open-ended and somewhat melancholic conclusion, director Michael Showalter opted for an ending that leaves viewers with a sense

The biggest rising star of the moment, Nicholas Galitzine is everyone’s favorite, including his famous colleagues. Having recently starred in Starz’s unhinged historical drama show Mary & George alongside Julianne Moore, Galitzine never moved back to the shadows jumping straight to his other big release this year, Michael Showalter’s romcom The Idea of You with Anne Hathaway in the leading role.
While still promoting Prime Video’s new hit, the actor revealed he’d received a very peculiar gift from Hathaway after they struggled filming some specific scenes.

Middle-aged women don’t have a lot of fun in movies. If we are depicted onscreen, we are often shown as harried, hypercompetent mothers and wives. We are tragically divorcing or exhaustedly raising our children. Sometimes we do some (alleged) murder. Other times we walk into the sea.
But the horny, stylish romps onscreen are usually reserved for the younger, less encumbered women — women who are more tabula rasa than palimpsest. And I understand. I am a 40-year-old woman in America. It’s hard to have fun in life, much less in a movie.

Don’t you hate it when Hollywood changes the ending to your favorite book when adapting it into a film? The process is sacrilege to some readers, but it can often lead to films improving upon their source material. The latest bestseller to see its ending changed is “The Idea of You” — and a recent piece by IndieWire’s Erin Strecker endorses the changes screenwriters Michael Showalter and Jennifer Westfeldt made in adapting Robinne Lee’s 2017 novel.
However, it turns out these changes, well regarded as they are by some, did not receive input from Lee herself. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, the author said she “was not involved at all in the adaptation.”
“I have not even spoken to [director] Michael [Showalter] yet,” Lee said. “But I’m looking forward to meeting him, so no, I haven’t spoken to him about any changes. My...

Adaptation and Vision: Exploring the Changes in The Idea of You The Idea of You, directed by Michael Showalter and starring Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine, diverges notably from its source material, the 2017 novel by Robinne Lee. Director’s Insight on Narrative Choices During a recent interview, Showalter discussed his decision to modify the novel’s conclusion. We wanted to give the audience a hopeful ending, he revealed. Robinne Lee, the author of The Idea of You, regrets initially stating that the story was inspired by Harry Styles.
In a new interview, Lee explains why the fictional British boy band member, Hayes Campbell, was not just inspired by the former One Direction member after many have compared it to writing fan fiction.
“I don’t consider it fan fiction at all,” Lee said in an interview with EW. “Harry was one of multiple people who went into creating Hayes Campbell — he was the only one in a British boy band that was current at the time, I guess, and so that’s what people have latched onto. It’s unfortunate because it’s being used as clickbait, and when I’m writing for Hayes, I’m not picturing Harry Styles.”
Lee said that the fictional character, played by Nicholas Galitzine in the Prime Video film, us a combination of many real-life people.

The chemistry between Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine in The Idea of You is truly rare. The pair found something exceptionally unique through the process of filming the project; companionship. The Idea of You has been the talk of the town ever since its trailer was released. This is not surprising considering its unique premise and the dedicated fans of the book. Despite its mixed reactions, the film has managed to do excellently, receiving gleaming reviews from critics as well as fans. With the way it has been perceived, it is only natural for the book to gather attention as well.
Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galatzine in The Idea of You
The movie strayed away from the source material quite a bit. Not only was the entire ending of the story changed, but Anne Hathaway’s character, Solène, was also fundamentally different. One would assume it would get a lot of hate from fans because of this. However, such was not the case.
It would seem that the intention behind the changes has led to a more supportive reaction from fans.

Anne Hathaway’s rom-com, The Idea of You, co-starring Nicholas Galatzine, has managed to impress fans of the genre. Hathaway’s pairing with Galatzine intrigued fans, in addition to the beloved reputation of its source novel by Robinne Lee. Fans are already raving about the film on social media.
Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galatzine in The Idea of You
As expected in literary adaptations, the cinematic version takes various liberties and changes from the novel. But surprisingly, the film changed the sad ending of the book to an optimistic one. While Lee did not feel betrayed by the ending, she understood why the makers went for a more traditional Hollywood ending.

“The Fall Guy” is swinging into theaters this weekend, as are the indie masterpieces “I Saw the TV Glow” and “Evil Does Not Exist.” Fortunately, a handful of fun and intriguing titles are also hitting digital platforms, including a dynamic documentary about a rock ‘n’ roll linchpin.
The contender to watch this week: “Catching Fire: The Story of Anita Pallenberg”
No, this isn’t a “Hunger Games” sequel. Anita Pallenberg was an actress, a New York It Girl, and a denizen of Andy Warhol’s Factory, but she is best known as an associate of the Rolling Stones. She dated founder Brian Jones and, later, guitarist Keith Richards, with whom she had three children. Some people have called her the band’s muse. Romance is complicated. The meshing together of two or more people isn’t designed to be a smooth process and art has reflected that for generations, most recently in the new Amazon MGM rom-com “The Idea of You”. In honor of the film dropping on Prime Video, IndieWire has compiled a list of the best age-gap romance films to enjoy after watching Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine’s jaunt within the genre. From the best-selling novel by Robinne Lee, “The Idea of You” follows a 40-year-old gallery owner and divorceé, who, after escorting her daughter to Coachella, ends up in a whirlwind romance with the 24-year-old lead singer of a famous boy band. The book was adapted for the screen by Michael Showalter, as well as Jennifer Westfeldt, who’s dabbled in complicated romances in the past with films like “Kissing Jessica Stein” and “Friends With Kids”.

Fiona Apple is the go-to songwriter for exorcising your romantic demons, ruing the ones you loved, the ones who didn’t love you back, the ones you pushed away amid yet another freefall of your own design. She’s also the go-to singer for three studio comedy auteurs: Michael Showalter, Judd Apatow, and Paul Feig.
Apple’s songs have featured in three of their films — Apple wrote the original song “Dull Tool” for Apatow’s “This Is 40,” capturing a decades-long marriage at its breaking point. Elsewhere, her epic ball of romantic resignation “Cosmonauts,” off the 2020 album “Fetch the Bolt Cutters,” was also originally meant for that film. Meanwhile, her classic cabaret-inspired love song “Paper Bag,” about having too much emotional baggage to enter into a new relationship she wants “so bad, oh it kills,” featured in Feig’s “Bridesmaids” in a montage of Annie (Kristen Wiig) making cupcakes as...

In 2022, Nicholas Galitzine was on the main stage of “Coachella”, flanked by bandmates Jaiden Anthony, Raymond Cham Jr., Vik White, and Dakota Adan.
Surrounding them were 5,000 screaming fans, chanting at the top of their lungs, “August Moon! August Moon! August Moon!” For most of the guys, who are professional dancers, this was somewhat familiar, they’d performed for much bigger audiences, supporting stars like Beyoncé and Britney Spears, and dancing on national TV. But for Galitzine, this was all brand new.
Under the spotlight, the actor was playing the role of a world famous pop star — one fifth of a massively successful (fictional) boy band. So while the crowd was real, it helped that they weren’t actually in Indio, California for their set, but a couple thousand miles away on a chilly December morning in Atlanta, filming scenes for the Prime Video rom-com film, The Idea of You.

The Idea of You starts like any other romance movie: A boy and girl meet, fall in love, and maybe have a swoon-worthy ending. The Idea of You Movie Review Rating:
Star Cast: Anne Hathaway, Nicholas Galitzine, Ella Rubin, and Reid Scott
Director: Michael Showalter
The Idea of You Movie Review Out ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
What’s Good: The chemistry between Hathaway and Galitzine is unique, and their characters’ relationship feels genuine in the film.
What’s Bad: The film feels outdated in its concepts, as the One Direction angle has not been popular for quite a while. An update to the idea would have made the film better.
Loo Break: The film’s length feels quite right, but the movie’s start feels a bit too redundant, and the same happens towards the end.
Watch or Not?: Watch if you are a fan of romantic comedies, but be ready for this to be more drama than comedy.

Ask any fan about their favorite book, and they are probably a little nervous when Hollywood comes calling with that very question. Streamers are littered with book adaptations that can never live up to the world created in one’s own head.
That’s why it’s such a treat, then, that the Anne Hathaway-starring adaptation of “The Idea of You,” which hit Prime Video on May 2, is such a steamy, fun delight that actually improves upon its source material.
It stays loyal to the book’s fantasy-driven plot: Hathaway portrays Solène, a newly-single mom of a teenager who — after meeting backstage at a concert in a pinch-me moment of serendipity — falls into a whirlwind, sex-forward romance with the lead singer of an international boy band, Hayes Campbell (Nicholas Galitzine).

It feels like suddenly Nicholas Galitzine is everywhere.
The 29-year-old English actor had a runaway streaming hit last year with “Red, White & Royal Blue,” starring as a prince caught up in a closeted gay romance with an American politico (Taylor Zakhar Perez). He played a dopey quarterback in the “Heathers”-inspired high school comedy “Bottoms,” and this spring starred as a queer George Villiers, aka the First Duke of Buckingham.
Now, he’s a full-blown romantic drama lead in “The Idea of You,” starring as Hayes Campbell, the frontman of a One Direction-inspired pop group who falls for a divorced single mother, Solène, played by Anne Hathaway. Directed by Michael Showalter and written by Jennifer Westfeldt, the film situates us in the moony dazedness of new love that becomes Solène’s fixation.
