Justin Hanrahan ACS - Bio
Justin Hanrahan is an LA-based, ACS accredited, award winning Cinematographer who has worked in Film and TV across the world for over 20 yrs.
Justin began his shooting career in Australia before relocating to Hong Kong in the early 90s. There, he covered major international news stories and shot long format documentaries for almost every major network across Asia and the Middle East.
Justin moved into high-end documentaries for clients including BBC's Natural History Unit and National Geographic.
Justin's love for storytelling led him to work in TV drama and narrative feature films. His experience, versatility and ability to capture beautiful, stark imagery, caught the attention of
the late Jean-Marc Vallee (Dallas Buyers Club), leading to Justin's first union show Big Little Lies for which he filmed 2nd Unit and Additional Photography.
Following the success of Big Little Lies, Jean-Marc hired Justin for all titles, 2nd Unit and additional photography for HBOs Sharp Objects. Justin also completed 2nd unit work on Jason Bateman's The Outsider. Whilst shooting The Outsider in Atlanta, Justin was offered the DP role for Season 2 of The
Rookie working with TV legends Rob Bowman and Bill Hughes. His role gave him the responsibility of making the show look more cinematic to secure a 3rd season. Justin finished 2 successful seasons of The Rookie for which he recently won a Gold Australian Cinematography Society Award for Best Cinematography in a TV Drama.
Throughout his career in the US, Justin has worked in the camera department on other various Hollywood productions including Happy Death Day, Sam Neils Why Anzac, Justin Timberlake project in Italy and James Cameron's Deepsea Challenge.
Recently Justin finished a Film project with Marie-Julie Dallaire and Bruna Papandreas.
Justin has obtained 18 State and National ACS awards for his work and recently won Best Cinematography for a feature film at the Austin Film Festival.
