Am I entitled to spousal support after a short marriage?
I was only married for one year and I have sole custody of a 9 month old, am I entitled to spousal support?
Yes you are and you will receive spousal support at least until your child attends school full time at age 6 and likely even longer.
Your total child and spousal support received will be over half of both spouse's combined take home pay. Young parents often have limited schooling, training and work experience. Raising a child in an intact family is likely life's most demanding task and being a single parent is unrelenting hard work.
Spousal support is paid when there is need and also where there is greater economic loss to one spouse. The economic disadvantage to the younger custodial spouse lies ahead of them as a result of child raising responsibilities that can delay or prevent the development of a career.
See a lawyer immediately if you've separated after a short marriage involving children.
