Deus Excessive Machina
5 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Typical Midsummer Murders type of production.

Emilia Fox still looking good in spite of her age although cracks are beginning to show.

Excessive use of Deus ex Machina which spoils it.

Nice landscape. Italian gigolos.

"The series follows Sylvia Fox (Emilia Fox, Silent Witness), an attractive and intelligent woman in her 40s, who, to the casual observer, appears to lead quite the unremarkable life. When asked about her work, she answers with vague references to an unspectacular career in the Civil Service. Which is only very slightly true - because until recently, Sylvia was a high-ranking British spy."

Thriller series don't get better than this.

Thriller series don't get better than this.

I found this much better than Breaking Bad.

Excellent acting. A master class in tragedy.

Shakespeare would have been proud.

Pity it's coming to an end.

Absolutely superb.

Absolutely superb. Very innovative for the time and a must-see.

The early series were made on a tiny budget and it shows but once you get into series 3 and particularly series 4, things improve immensely.

The plots become more surreal and the production values improve.

It is a pity that the episodes with Honor Blackman in are not available in colour.

How the "Emma exhibited" scene in this episode ever got past the censors is utterly beyond me.

I am pretty sure that nothing like this had ever been seen on British telly before.

I actually saw this when it was first broadcast and remember it vividly. LOL.

Midsomer Murders...
9 April 2022
Midsomer Murders set in Chelsea.

Gentle, undemanding, easy watching, good quality.

Avoids the woke.

Ideal Saturday evening viewing.

Hope they do another series.

Total rubbish
5 April 2022
Total rubbish.

Makes MI5 look like a bunch of seedy incompetents which they are not.

They could all do with a good wash.

Utterly implausible.

PsyOp. Deliberately designed to make the security services look in a bad light.

Garbage.

Sad that Gary Oldman has stooped so low.

Utter and complete rubbish.

Waste of time.

It is about time Midsomer Murders was put out of its misery

It is about time Midsomer Murders was put out of its misery.

Used to be entertaining but has been going downhill for years.

Woke, politically-correct drivel, absurd plots and just general crappiness.

Used to be good when John Nettles was in it but gradually deteriorated.

Fun and enjoyable

Fun and enjoyable series. Some people might call it trite but it's not meant to be deep or philosophical. It's meant to be just fun. And it is.

An amazing film for the time

An amazing film for the time.

Well worth 10/10.

It might look a bit naff by modern standards but at the time it was ground breaking.

The people who made this deserve credit for what they did.

A lovely old English comedy
7 April 2016
This is quite a strange and eccentric movie and parts of it will look very strange to modern audiences.

In particular, the racial stereotyping which nowadays will be regarded by many as 'politically incorrect' to say the least.

The humour is rather zany but you need to remember that Michael Bentine was a member of the Goons: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0298349/ which itself was rather surreal.

I think that this is a gem of English cinema.

It contains lots of old English character actors, most of whom are, sadly, no longer with us.

Most of the performances are of the 'cameo' type, lasting only a few minutes.

It is set in the Swinging Sixties and shows London at the time. Because London was like that (although not as eccentric!).

Many people nowadays will consider the movie to be 'lame' but it is enjoyable for those with an interest in social history and the actors of the time.

Outstanding. The whole series is outstanding.

Outstanding. The whole series is outstanding.

I was a teenager then and remember the period. Everything about the period is true even down to the beer jugs of the time. I do not know how they do it.

The story lines are brilliant. There is always a twist in the tale. Brilliantly written.

The acting is superb. Especially Shaun Evans as the young Morse and Roger Allam as Inspector Thursday.

An outstanding piece of work. I have no hesitation in giving the whole series 10/10.
