Leave the World Behind (2023)
Captivating
Thought-provoking way after the movie was over. It's kind of scary to think how we truly rely on technology for everything in life and how it could be easily weaponized. I was fully entranced & didn't want it to end. By the way, the ending was brilliant. Would you really want to see how people die in the end or see a little bit of happiness. Loved the in-depth character study of each member of the two families. All of the acting was exceptional but Julia Roberts was especially enthralling. She has such a screen presence. Some thought her character was racist, I felt it was distrust more than anything - she lives in the city and doesn't let her guard down. I'm so glad there wasn't blood and gore. And the lack of people in the story made it even eerier.
Where'd You Go, Bernadette (2019)
Creative types will totally relate to Bernadette
I saw the trailer and knew I would love the film. Cate Blanchett does a wonderful job playing Bernadette, the flawed, quirky lead character. Bernadette has a lovingly, beautiful relationship with her daughter yet her husband has her misunderstood. It's such a memorable moment in the film when he realizes what is missing in Bernadette's life and the family reconnects. There are scenes of Antarctica in the end that are breathtaking. Kristen Wiig should be mentioned for her unforgettable role as the annoying neighbor who ends up saving the day for Bernadette. This film is such a unique find. I'm definitely seeing this again.
Qing qian la mian cha (2018)
Warms the Heart
This movie touched my heart. In a world of million dollar action movies, this brought me back to the complex, yet oh so important need for family. In this case, food was the conduit. And who doesn't feel even more emotion when food is involved. Relax, give yourself a treat, and succumb to a truly meaningful slice of life.
Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)
Wow!!!
A must see movie event. Rami Malek deserves an Oscar for this performance. After the movie, I had to check and see what other movies are coming out this year. Yep, this is Rami's Oscar.
The movie tells the story about the beginnings of the band, their relationships and how their music came to be. And you get some really amazing performances along the way.
I'm not going to spoil it but what a finale. So much emotion. I didn't want it to end.
The Nutcracker and the Four Realms (2018)
A Visual Delight!!!
I can't understand why there would be any negative reviews. I was mesmerized from start to finish. I am a big fan of the classic ballet The Nutcracker, but I went into this movie knowing it would be different and I wasn't disappointed. The movie was visually stunning-eye candy all the way. The production design and costumes will definitely transport you to another realm. Misty Copeland is The Ballerina. I watched this in 3D and had the chance to study her en pointe right in front of my nose! I just wish the movie had extended the scenes with Clara wearing the LED lit ballgown.
Wiener-Dog (2016)
You can call diarrhea art but that still doesn't make that art.
The movie trailer made it look like it would be a heartfelt comedy but this movie was painfully dark. I'm not even sure why it was made. Don't waste your money, especially if you are an animal lover. Those critics who gave it multiple stars because it was artful, clearly do not have the emotional capabilities exhibited by any other member of humanity. Spoiler Alert: If a 120 second scene of pavement and diarrhea doesn't repulse you, then a family pet run over four times will. This isn't even movie making anymore. As a movie lover and indie film aficionado, this film has taught me never to blindly go to a film again. Read all of the reviews first.
