1920 (2008)
I never knew Indian Horror could actually make sense
I love this movie for its simplicity and realism; something which Indian cinema blatantly exaggerates. A friend had mentioned this movie was good when it had hit the theaters in 2008, and now in 2012 I'm sad that I missed it. Thank God I was able to get my hands on a DVD. While the movie is not so great on the chills and effects, whatever it does do - it does do brilliantly well. Even the songs in the movie were well handled. I rarely every review movies, but this time I was compelled to. The same way I was compelled to write my first review after watching 'The Stoneman Murders'. I can't think of any movies that this one has been ripped off from; something which has plagued Bollywood since its inception. I will treasure this movie, which has once again resurrected my hope that not everything that comes out of India is copied and over-the-top.
Just found out that there is a sequel too... well hey, everyone wants to make an easy buck and I know best to stay away from that one.
Flipped (2010)
just when you thought movies without special effects were boring ...
There is only so much of visual splendor in the form of special effects and CGI that you can endure before it loses its "special" edge. Flipped is a wonderful movie that is beautiful because of the characters and the personalities ... and really more than the sum of its parts. The plot though typical in every way did not feel the least bit contrived or clichéd. It was wonderfully cute and truly heartfelt. This movie really helped peel back the years, though somehow it never really feels old. A movie for the whole family and for all ages. Couples will definitely enjoy this one, and those lucky few who managed to grow old with their first love can be taken back to that time again when they shared their true love's first kiss.
Going the Distance (2010)
best romcom of 2010
omg! i can't believe i ad to wait all year to finally catch a decent romcom. the last chick flick i saw letters to juliet and that movie was so terrible. this one on the other hand, though predictable was really sweet ... it made me feel good ... over the past three years whenever I've picked a romantic movie for my girlfriend and i to watch, it has been a disaster ... so i finally decided to watch it ahead of her, just to make sure i don't screw up again ... can't wait to watch it with her again ... awesome movie ... a must watch for all couples ... it sux that we missed it when it hit the theaters ... but watchin it at home i guess is even better ...
The Stoneman Murders (2009)
A fantastic thriller unspoiled by Bollywood
If I were to name Bollywood thrillers that I have come across, I would probably be able to come up with a few names after spending a couple of hours racking my almost zombie brain. But this movie definitely takes first place. This movie is actually so good that it prompted me to post my first ever comment on IMDb. My only regret is having failed to catch this amazing movie in a theater.
All those looking for a good suspense thriller from Bollywood, look no further. This movie is a real gem. No happy endings, surreal family get-togethers, stupid songs, villains who just won't die, crappy romances or any of that jazz that would normally be associated with a movie from this side of the world.
I highly recommend this movie to everyone!!!
