Selma (2014)
Beautiful and inspirational.
Very well made and well acted. David Oyelowo did an amazing job of portraying Dr. King, especially given that he's not American himself.
Lupt (2018)
A notch above the usual thriller fare.
An Interesting Take. It looked so fresh for me, The true ambience of horror is superb, which is a very rare occurrence. The dialogues and characters' demeanour are so genuine and authentic, it's unbelievable.
I thoroughly enjoyed this film. The actors were great, and they played off each other really well. I wouldn't call it a horror so much as a thriller.
The comedic banter between the family members was great and believable in a situation like this. Interesting for me.
It Happened One Night (1934)
Best Movie
Probably the fluffiest Best Picture winner I've ever seen. The only thing gritty about it is Capra's intense hatred of wealth being put out front and center. I liked how the Gable character shows the Colbert character how the other side lives, and it kinda speaks to how those in Hollywood don't really understand our struggles. It's a cute little love story with good acting, but it is hardly worthy of a best picture win. 9/10
Requiem for a Dream (2000)
Must Watch
Everyone must watch it, for it's entertainment value, and more importantly, it's educational value. But it leaves chills down your spine for it's honesty and unforgiving lessons.
The Love Witch (2016)
weird but i liked it
The Love Witch is Anna Biller's second feature film and my first time watching any of her works. The film is artistically spectacular - Costumes, shot making, colours, dialogue delivery - and original in scope. Biller commits to her genre (classic horror) and period-look (mid-sixties to early seventies, think "I Dream of Jeannie" or "Bewitched") and uses satire to turn the patriarchy on its head. It's a lot to try to accomplish in two hours. The film isn't without a few flaws. Sometimes the script is too thick and the pacing too slow, but overall, The Love Witch distinctively shines. Biller has a lot of promise as a director.
