Bad reviews only helped

Warning: Spoilers
You know, when I saw the trailer of this movie I thought "this could be interesting" I mean it has a superb cast and of course I am a huge fan of Henry Cavill, however after reading a couple of reviews before watching the movie my expectations dropped to the point I believed I was going to watch some new marvel movie or something... Well, I watched the movie and it ended up being quite good! The mission is simple, steel a boat from the germans, that's it, that's what the movie is all about and I can understand why many people though it was boring or plane, because everybody now days is used to having their eyes violated with overestimated and pointless action movies, and they can't appreciate a good movie by it's own style, no need for overdramatic plots or unnecessary fantasy action, just some great actors playing some madly charismatic characters and death, lots of death, like John Wick style, literally is just Henry And Alan killing for a job, it's really good!

So in my opinion I personally found this movie entertaining and unique above all and it gets funny ever so slightly. As for the story I mean, it's very superficial yes, but it gets compensated with the fair amount of action. The cast was really great, no "trying to be funny" cases in this movie or annoying character development, perhaps the only thing I didn't like is Til Schweiger not getting enough material to play with, his character felt unsatisfactory and empty. However it was really nice to see mighty Henry playing this kind of roll after all the incredible work he has given us through the years! This was just a great movie.

Found joy on someone's passion

This short is really beautiful, the first thing I noticed is the great bold colors that Almodóvar uses in his movies, I usually don't like colorful movies, but he is my most proud exception. The second thing I liked is the story, really well suited in those short 30 minutes, not too rushed not too dragged, it just felt right. The cast is elegant and a pleasant one, unfortunately, in my most humble opinion, I also think that shaping the relationship of the main characters into being gay, makes it too personal and specific, ultimately reducing its own potential. I believe this is a story Almodóvar wanted to express for himself, and then published for those who might want to see it, not motivated by money or greed, just Almodóvar's pure passion, and I very much respect that. It might have not been my kind of "style" but I still enjoyed it very much.

A piece of joy in a lake of disappointments.

This movie caught my interest when I heard it was going to be in French, and when I found out Mr. Johnny Deep was going to be in it. Not that I have a clue about french but when a movie has an historical event as a base or theme for the story, one assumes it has to be represented in its proper way, with the proper language and cast, and as for my part as an audience go through it making an effort to try and understand it, with the help of subtitles if necessary. It offers me a new and unique way of enjoying cinema, discovering different cultures, perspectives, stories... Another example of it would be also the German production; "All Quite In The Western Front". It's quite an exceptional kind of cinema, and I also understand is not for everyone...

But that's why I love Me. Johnny Deep so much, he is not afraid to explore and play with range and curiosity, ultimately delivering the most outrageous and fantastic characters. In this movie he does not seem to do much, but still he represents his character beautifully. Surprisingly he gets well complemented by Miss Maïwenn, who delivers a fantastic performance on and off-screen, a superb effort from her in my opinion. "Jeanne du Barry" is a refreshing and beautiful piece of art, not determined by modern standards and true to its production style. A beautiful movie.
