The Farewell (2019)
The triumph of the oriental philosophy
Who has the right to decide whether you should know something or not? From my perspective it is quite hard to accept this "lying" decision throughout the whole film. But when I saw her granny laughing at the end scene, I feel somehow persuaded, by this oriental philosophy and also kinda believe in that Haaa trick can really cure her disease.
Midsommar (2019)
Splendid daylight terror
Great directing techniques from Ari Aster. Powerful sound mix and cinematography. The ceremony scene in the end is just hilarious.

So much more than a story
A breakthrough of the director using his techniques in his first try of a thrilling film. The story reflects the 40 years of reform in China, and how the 'things' work in the last 40 years. Every actor is at his best in front of Lou Ye's camera. The most impressing line: Everything is gonna be forgotten, just like me. said Edison Chen who is unofficially banned by the authority and in the final version almost every scene with his face is cut. How realistic this film is.

Instead, it's a story of hope
Watched the 'formal' version with soundtracks and mixed tune. It feels much better than the leaked version on internet. It's like the 'Platform' for the new generation, but concentrating on the individual and their emotion. This film leads to some sort of hope with 'What else can I do' in the end, but in the real life the story is much sadder. HU already showed his auteur using only one film. What a lossss
