A Very British Christmas (2019)
Awesome. I've watched it 4 times this week!
I am pretty much NOT a TV movie fan AT ALL, and I absolutely Hate the Hallmark ones so therefore was so pleasantly surprised when I bumped onto "A Very British Christmas" recently. Unlike most TV fodder this film has excellent acting, striking location(s), and a wonderful set of characters in truly believable situations. Everything here is truly first rate! I love this film and am wondering if it is available for purchase on either Blu Ray or dvd disk. Can anyone confirm this for me please?
Wonderful show and totally worth your time to watch it...guaranteed!
Sweeney Todd (2006)
Exceptional! Not to be missed!
My first exposure to Sweeney Todd was the Broadway Album on RCA. I loved it and played it so frequently that the story is basically forever based on that recording and later on the broadcast of the Lansbury-Hearn live theater filming. Later, I found the Johnny Depo movie an absolute travesty a destruction of the story because of his ridiculous performance.
I just watched this version on Amazon Prime and must say I liked it immensely as indicated by my 10-Star rating. It is very different, yet like the otiginal version of the story from the Broadway, yet it is truly Severe, omitting any trace of tension-releasing bits of comedic relief. Be warned, this is the nasty, dirty London of the time, so severe that it almost makes one feel they might suffocate.
Ray Winstone's absolutely winning performance is wrenching as Sweeney! God is he spectacular in bringing this man into an absolutely believable true-to-life man, and he is supported by a very strong cast of the scum of London's not-necessarily-finest in those times.
Absolutely Not To Be Missed......Believe Me!
This made-for-TV movie deserved a theatrical release!
Kudos to all involved in this powerful production!
Brothers (2009)
Powerful, emotionally charged film.
I am never one to serve up spoilers, so this may be a bit remote to the film.
One of the most powerful films that I have seen in quite a while. Everything about this movie is visually stunning and all of the actors, even the children, are simply first-rate.
I have given this film a 10 star rating for so many reasons....
visually it is magnificent
a beautifully written masterpiece
family interactions resulting from a dysfunctional past
war and its emotional toll
love and redemption
pain in its worst form
suspense that actually makes one hurt
sorrow, tears, recovery, jealousy, heroic believability
it has everything that a perfect film needs to embody
you will remember this film for a very long time
But...not for young children, and I would say anybody under 16 for violence...
Leather (2013)
I liked this
I found this film very enjoyable and with a different take from most other in this general vein. Some rather strange characters in it but really wonderful, and I easily rated this film 8 stars.
It is, I suppose, one of those that you will hate or love. Slow in spots, but I was engaged and moved in many places. This film deserves to be more well known....I liked it enough to buy myself a copy for my home film library.
