The Pembrokeshire Murders (2021)
Excellent, Superb, one of the best crime shows I've seen for awhile
I'm constantly browsing through Brit Box to find excellent crime shows to no avail. Just as I was ready to cancel my membership I came across this series. Finally! A good British crime show without constant resorting to the f word in sentences, colloquialisms I don't get, the standard teenager who dislikes his parent intensely, and poor dialogue and acting.
So refreshing. Thank you, Brit Box.
Tess of the D'Urbervilles (2008)
Well done, but annoying.
The show is excellent acting-wise, but frustrating. Tess is such a victim: her drunken dad, her unsympathetic mom, the creep who abused her, her husband who abandoned her, the church who scorned her, the cruel boss. And sadly, she let them. At least she had some good women friends.
The Cassandra Crossing (1976)
Good for a laugh
The people who gave this movie good reviews (most from early 2000s) must have been really hard up for a disaster movie. I had to keep watching it just to find out how it ended. But believe me it was really bad! It did take my mind off the real life coronavirus epic, though.
Sanditon (2019)
;You'll love it if sappy is your style.
Just for fun I made up my own dialogue for the actors as they repeatedly apologized to each other for their less-than-perfect behavior. What a drag! I just wanted to grabbed each one by the throat and shake them to pieces. At least two and maybe three of them had some substance (Esther, Lord Babington, and Mary), but most of them were simpering saps, greedy or miserably unhappy.
And Then There Were None (2015)
I enjoy looking at Aidan Turner, as well as the interior of the house.
This series is very slooooow - almost seems to be in slo-mo at times. The acting is good and the suspense level is good. However, true to Agatha Christie, it has an unexplainable end. I've read many of her books and find as the book/short story ends she has left things dangling. Most murder mysteries wrap up the plot at the end: who, what, where, when, and WHY?
Gosnell: The Trial of America's Biggest Serial Killer (2018)
Wow! An incredible movie!
Regardless of your stand on abortion, keep an open mind and go see this movie. It is well done - not preachy or amateurish - dialogue, acting, sets, music - the whole tamale - excellent!
Think of how difficult it is to watch other movies that expose some of the horrors in our world history: the holocaust, the killing fields, stories about serial killers - we watch them and learn, rather than deny. I know many pro-abortion folks who are opposed to post-viability abortions and would like to see the abortion ruling modified.
This movie is another reason our justices, legislators, and the public need to advocate for federal rulings on cleanliness standards for clinics. Even today, 45 years after Roe v Wade, they are loosely regulated and not required country-wide to keep statistical records. It's shameful - the result of large amounts of money given to legislators by lobbyists.
