More bullets and bombs than words

How much more can they amp up action films!? Too much grisly fighting.

Not enjoyable to me. I'm a fan of Ryan Gosling (when he gets to act) but this was a waste of production dollars and acting talent.

Beware season one's Hollywood ending!!!
13 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed the first nine episodes. Picard, Seven (of Nine), Q, Dr. Soong, and even the Borg Queen, were welcome reprisals from Star Trek's glory days. I thought the plot was fine, casting good, story OK. But then in the last 5-10 minutes they undid all that decent work by plastering on a "Hollywood" ending. So sappy! Let see: boy gets girl (and son), girl gets girl, girl (who got other girl) gets dead boy (from previous timeline), main boy gets girl, and finally, Q declares his love of Picard and dies happily - jeeezus! Wish I could sit in a room with that team of screenwriters and ask them, "WTF!"

Major disappointment, and if Patrick Steward and Jeri Ryan weren't in it, I would boycott season 2, like I have the Discovery series due to Michael Burnham's excessive and predictable emotional affectations.

Don't understand all the low reviews
11 April 2022
I read and watch a lot of post-apocalyptic syfy and this had a common theme exploited by some well known blockbusters. It chose to focus on the very human and emotional aspects of the battle to survive, rather than fill the movie with action scenes. But maybe that's what people want these days. Well acted throughout. Powerful ending.

Wish I had my 2 hours back

Stupid and trashy beyond belief. I have liked Nicholas Cage in many movies but could not stand him in this. And I don't believe the character, any character, would be this idiotic in real life. The writing is every bit as much to blame as the acting.

The only positive is Eva Mendes, a real beauty.

Hard movie to watch

First off, it was too long. second, it was depressing to see people so improverised and subjugated. I should have paid more attention to the low reviews. I tend to be more swayed by the positive ones - a lesson for the future.

Beautiful

Kudos to Casey Affleck for his writing/acting/directing. An intimate film exploring his herculean efforts to raise a sane, moral child in the most impossible circumstances. Anna Pniowsky was exceptional also. Extremely well cast film in my opinion. Beautifully done all around.

I do not understand all the negative reviews, except to guess than people are conditioned to expect a more blockbuster style of filmmaking.

6 stars!?
18 January 2021
How did this only get 6.2? Best thriller I've seen in years. Great from start to finish. Big fan of Blake Lively now, who carried the film. Jude Law was solid too, one of the better roles he's had, imo.

The Witcher (2019– )

I suppose you needed to read the books first...
1 January 2020
I could not piece together a plot from this disjointed and confusing production. I'd suggest people read the books first if you want to know what's going on. I thought the casting was good to great, depending. I particularly liked Cavill and Chalotra. But the Witcher did not benefit from that comedic sidekick/bard. Would have been much better if he hadn't been such a fool, but maybe the book's author wrote him that way.

My biggest complaint is the modern dialogue thrown incongruously into this medieval timeframe. "What the f...?" and "Let's do this!" (repeated twice). Really? Com'on!!! The screenwriters get a D- for this, but what amazes me is how the director let this stand. He gets an F in my book. Don't understand this huge gaff at all. Such a stupid mistake that makes it seem so amateurish.

I may read the books if I can find them at my local library, then take another pass at the episodes.
