The Hunt (2020)
Great Flick!!! Deserves Sequels.
Well acted, humorous, well directed, kept my attention.
It's got some pretty deep themes- I have to watch this again after I read more, especially Orwell/Animal Farm.
I love that the deplorable hero is a woman. Would love to meet a deplorable like her.
I suspect that the radical left will be upset at this movie because it pokes fun at things they are so serious and radical about. It does make fun of deplorables, but deplorables wear the stereotypes like badges of honor- I know I like being part of the no-nonsense, down to earth, peasant that lives by, "Live and let live" and "Don't tread on me."
Of course, there is much more in the movies than I am discussing. Also, questions raised that need answering from a sequel- but, I don't want to write any spoilers.
If you are a proud deplorable, you should love this- as long as you own who you are. If you are a self acknowledged elite- white shaming, virtue signaling type, you will hate this movie, unless you can laugh at your ideologies (but, people like this are serious about what they feel, so I doubt they will like it).
Too bad that theaters have been closed and thanks to Universal for doing the VOD!
They deserve to make a killing on this movie and I hope they can make up for their losses by this becoming a cult classic.
Crawl (2019)
Excellent!
I resisted watching this movie because the plot seemed silly to me. But, I finally conceded to watch it subsequent to the positive reviews here; and, I'm glad I did!
It's a solid flick, true to its genre as well. The actress is underrated and I think she should be doing more movies after watching this one. Solid heroine- she makes it true.
The storyline is not what I expected, much more intriguing that I imagined. Simple and that is what is perfect about it. Nicely done!!!
Togo (2019)
Beautiful!
Made me want to get one!
Perfect movie! Reminded me of the feeling I got when I watched the movie Sounder as a young child which was played in our school auditorium. Nice feeling!
Perfect Christmas Movie!
Doctor Sleep (2019)
Excellent Sequel to The Shining!!!
This is a sequel to the movie, "The Shining." The setting is years after the events of the original flick. I would have given it a 10 had it been more seamless with respect to the original story; but, honestly, that is a result (IMO) of the different eras between this flick and the original. It's not really a fault and I'm glad that it didn't try to be a retelling of the original story. If that doesn't make sense, I think viewers who read my post and watch the movie will probably agree.
I'm pleased that it didn't incorporate "woke" narratives- yet, at the same time used refreshing and modern characters which should be appealing to all. It's marked with quality actors (acting ) that deserve recognition for their talents...
I simply loved this flick. It's worthy of being the sequel to the time honored classic, "The Shining."
Ring Ring (2019)
It's worth watching
If you like action-comedy-semi horror, it is worth watching. It's not a psycho remake- it is an original story. Not gory nor horrifying by any means. It is entertaining and well acted. I enjoyed it!
The Irishman (2019)
I had a hard time staying interested!
My initial thought about this movie (prior to watching it) was mixed. A great director and a classic cast of actors- but, the actors are past their prime for this kind of movie. I imagined them having to take frequent breaks to urinate, during dangerous conflicts and action sequences, given the combined size of their prostates. And, how can one accept the genuine nature of men who are supposed to be tough when they are 70-80s years of age?
I guess De Niro probably affected my opinion with his proclamation of wanting to punch POTUS in the face. It's hysterical to think that he believes he is a tough and rugged man given his age when even true tough and rugged men tend to calm down (because they have nothing to prove) - his offstage behavior betrays his on screen perception. He has type casted himself, sorry to say that given the true artistic contribution he has provided to the film industry and film fans over his lifetime. He is now just an angry old man who hasn't developed maturely.
I will give it another try, maybe I can get past my preconditioned perception and view it from an empty and accepting perception.
I do have to add, I don't know why actors and musicians do that to themselves. It's like they have decided at some point that what they create will be best if it's spirit and nature will be identical to each creation from that point on. So, they create the same work of art over and again.
But, this may be good because it opens the door to new talent- God knows we need new talent these days.
Ready or Not (2019)
Great!
Original action horror that is pretty humorous to boot.
The leading lady (heroine) is priceless. Love her expressions. I hope to see her in more movies as she could be a super star (as long as she doesn't go the woke, political route).
I don't know why but Australian females are so cool and amazingly beautiful , yet down to earth (not prissy). Love them and loved this flick.
Lucid (2018)
Familiar to me, but I wouldn't call it a thriller.
It's an interesting flick. It's not a thriller in that it's not scary nor chilling (at least I didn't feel it was).
Lucid Dreaming is a real thing. The technique to control your dreams was taught to me to help me overcome nightmares. It does work and works fast.
I don't know if overdone it could cause you to not be able to distinguish reality from dreams- I doubt it though. But, I guess it's possible...
It's worth watching and it is thought provoking - what is the difference between us in a dream and in real space and time?
Joker (2019)
Complicated
It's not what I expected at all. Actually, it wasn't as violent as many other movies today. Yeah, there is violence, but it's not really about being a violent movie in that it's not overdone to the point of being out of context given the story.
It's a new story, not following the classic comic book ones regarding this villain. It tells the story of how the Joker came to be what he becomes. I understand that it's a stand alone movie not intended to have a sequel.
The acting is superb and Joaquin Phoenix should be nominated and get an Oscar for his portrayal. His demonstrates his mastery of his craft without question.
What is most interesting about this movie, and I did not expect this, is the message I got from this movie. For me, it's about what happens to people who are neglected by society. I am not "woke" by any measure; so, I am not condemning America- I love my country. But, we do have to do a better job at tending to the emotionally ill in our society- this is my opinion as a physician and Conservative. This is a story that reminds us of the importance in regard to doing so and the consequences if we don't.
Cosmos (2019)
Excellent!
If you are expecting aliens conquering earth or that kind of action you will likely be somewhat disappointed. But, if have ever engaged in scientific study and enjoyed it- whether that be in high school chemistry or amateur astronomy or professional research- you will enjoy this movie.
It illustrates the passion of the scientific mind, albeit at its rare yet aspirational moments of discovery.
I have to admit I am a geek. It kept me glued and at the edge of my seat.
I would have given it 10/10 if there was a hot nerdy chick scientist (lol) ! Not suggesting that to advocate for equality, just because I like hot nerdy chicks.
