The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996)
it's one of the best movies i've seen
This movie was one of the most moving movies I have ever seen. There were parts where I cried. I thought one of the coolest things about this movie was the introduction of Quasimodo. Not that part with Frollo almost drowning him, but the part where he comes out to check on the bird. The first time you see his face, it doesn't hit you as horrifying at all. Then, you see him talking to the little bird, and you realize how sweet and kind this guy is. I fell in love with him right there. By the way, I actually like his smile, I think it's cute. Anyways, you start to really identify with the character when he's sad about only being able to watch the festival. You start to see more emotion in this character and you feel for how alone he is and you feel so sorry for him. But, Quasimodo's ability's astound me. I know that his enormous strength is realistic after 20 years of ringing those heavy bells, but when he breaks the pillars before going to rescue Esmeralda, that was awesome. I like the gargoyles too, that was pretty neat. This is one of those classic Disney movies that you will never forget. Anybody who gives this movie less than a ten is nuts.
The Hunchback of Notre Dame II (2002)
it's OK
This movie is one of the worst examples of animation I have ever seen. I saw the first Hunchback of Notre Dame back when it first came out and then I dug it out again two weeks ago. I also discovered that I had the second one so I decided to watch that one too, and man it was really horrible to look at. However, I'm one of those people that thinks that Quasimodo has always deserved to find his true love. It broke my heart when Esmeralda kissed Phoebes in the first movie and then Quasi started crying. That really made me sad, so when I watched this one, I was more happy about the fact that Quasimodo has someone that loves him back more than how it was that happened.
Someone said that the kiss wasn't that great, which I have to disagree. I thought the kiss was fine, and it was especially funny that while Madeline was kissing Quasimodo that he let go of the rope to the bell. I don't know, I just thought that was cute.
Oh man, no one yet has noticed the horrible outfit that Quasi put on to go to circus. Ew, that was awful, I much prefer his tunic and hose over that disgusting garment. I thought the villain in this movie was OK, he wasn't as good as Frollo, but he was still evil enough. Oh, and Madeline, I liked her character, she was different. But the part in the movie where she sees Quasimodo for the first time and runs off, it wasn't all that surprising that Quasimodo still thought he had a chance with her. Don't forget, in the first movie, after Esmeralda discovers that what she thought was a mask wasn't, she gasped. So, I think everybody except for Phoebes and Clopin were horrified at the sight of Quasimodo. So, by now, he's probably used to people seeing him for the first time and having a bad reaction. However, it did think it was silly that Madeline only fell in love with Quasi after seeing him sing to Zephyr as he was going to sleep. Come on, they could've done better than that. Oh yeah, Quasi doesn't even get to do any rescuing in this movie. The only thing he does is help Madeline at the end. Geez, we all know from the first movie that he's capable of lots of stuff. Anyways, this movie is one of those movies you maybe take out once in a while and watch, but it's definitely not as good as the first one. However, I do recommend you watch it at least once, just to see what happens.
