Duet (1994)
Musical Love Saga
This movie is one with K.Balachander's mark direction. He is a master creator of love themes with beautiful, soulful music supporting the screenplay. Actors in the movie are Ramesh Aravind, Prabhu as the protagonists and Meenakshi Sheshadri as the heroine. Everybody played their roles to the point, with some excesses on the part of Meenakshi. Music by A.R.Rehman is good and gave life & flow to the movie. One more important thing which binds the whole of the story is the saxophone music. It is excellent, as it is heart touching and has the effect to make a mark in the minds of viewers as well as those who overhear the music. On the whole, viewers get their share of entertainment with memoirs to carry home.
Rang De Basanti (2006)
Old context presented in a new way
The context which the director tried to project is same as that of Director Maniratnam's "Yuva". But, the director was successful in presenting it in a new context and won accolades for the same. On the whole the movie is good with small weaknesses, which can be neglected. The action by all the actors is good, with credits going to Aamir Khan, Siddharth R. Narayan, Soha Ali Khan and Atul Kulkarni. Other supporting actors did justice to their portions. The movie starts flaccidly and gains momentum to reach peaks with small discrepancies, and finally ends on a note. The movie gives more value to the patrons money and time. Worth watching once.
