Great acting, terrible aimless script
17 October 2023
Very weak script, as if there was no outline or theme at the outset and it could have been improvised on the fly. Ask me what the movie is about, and I'd have a hard time summing it up. It's not about arms trafficking, it's not about border wars, it's not a love/romance or male bonding, or vengeance. I tried my best to stay alert because of the stong acting, particularly that Ian guy playing the older sheriff. But nonetheless I couldn't help but do crossword puzzles while waiting to see who chops up whom or blows away whom. If you do have the stamina to make it to the end, hold out for the final scene during the credits - you'll get to see one more person get blown away.

Dead End (I) (2003)

So bad that it's good
6 October 2023
Worth a watch on a free streaming service. I'm not sure if was intended to be humorous, but when blood wasn't being splattered I had some laugh out loud moments, with the jackass brother's foul mouth and the back and forth nonsense between the mom and dad. There were some good jump scares and maybe because of the budget it wasn't very gruesome, they didn't show the dead bodies, only suggested the damage done. If there's any major weakness, it was the last few minutes when they attempted an explanation for the curse or whatever it was that took place, plus they stole a twist from a classic Twilight Zone episode, A Stop at Willoughby.

Who rated this better than3?
15 September 2023
I saw the high IMDB ratings and decent critic reviews, but someone is paying them off... the only thing that met expectations was the gore. Yes, eyes gouged out, heads cracked like walnuts. But where is the human interest (they're all but bunch of twits, both the kids and geezers. Where is the wit, the intelligence, the plots twists or McGuffins?

I luckily kept myself engaged surfing the net for the first mind numbing hour, then tuned in for some action which was fairly fast paced, but nonetheless dull because you want them all hacked to pieces (except maybe RJ). The best line of the movie is the sheriff's... the last line of the movie. If you dare to watch this, I recommend fast forward to the end, just for that clip.

Very few good things about this movie
28 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The acting was decent, in fact the reason I watched it was for JRM, he is always watchable and he did a great job as the nut job neighbor. However at the end I felt ripped off, with no good resolution for any of the characters.

Spoiler alert - David is guilty of hit and run murder, even though Vanessa survived, Robert is dead, as well as the innocent old lady and David's boss, and the detectives come off as moronic for not knowing the trains didn't run after 10pm.

Also, what was the point of the Latvian location? I assume because it was cheaper to film there, because the location had no bearing on the plot.

Only watch this if you want to be depressed.

Overrated due to all star cast
11 February 2023
If this movie didn't have Denzel and an incredible cast, I expect the individual and average ratings would drop by 3 or 4 stars. In fact, I probably would have given it 1 star and wouldn't have finished watching it if not for them. It is neither suspenseful when looked at as a a detective/crime movie nor scary/creepy from a supernatural:horror perspective. I rarely even think of music, but I think the weak background music is partially responsible; if they overlaid "Tubular Bells" Exorcist type music it might have created a different ambience. And I agree with many comments, why didn't this "star" detective get up and run 900 feet away?

Plot wanders all over the place
7 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This was an shamefully schizophrenic roller coaster ride. The writer and director unsure of whatvto make; is it a stalker/predator abducting Emily Blunt, or is it a ghost story about driving into a a worm hole to repeatedly witnessing a Groundhog Day replication of 50-year old tragic events. And in need of jump scares, throw in a burnt to a crisp ghost corpse spitting up a snake., which was random, unnecessary, out of context, and inexplicable. Not sure why they had the priests freeze to death, if there only sin was to let the crooked serial killer cop burn to death. Probably they threw that in just to increase the body count. Out of my 300 or so ratings on IMDB this is at or close to the bottom. The great Emily Blunt (Sicario is one of my all time favorites) should have her name removed from this production.

Unwatchable
11 January 2023
I don't know who gave the high ratings, most likely the actors and directors, but the acting is so horrendous I couldn't get past 10 minutes. Are they reading from storyboards? Also, the script is so... well, scripted. Nobody talks like this. I feel ripped off that I paid $3.99 to watch it. The fact that IMDB didn't display any ratings from viewers (only the 8.5 composite) and no external reviews leads me to believe that this is one of the worst films ever made. I'm going to check back periodically to see if any reviews appear at a later date. For now, if you're able to access my comments, save yourself $3.99, I'm a fair reviewer, done 200+ fair and impartial IMDB reviews.

Kept me interested thinking the end might be worth it
18 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
First of all, the dubbing was terrible. Did the voice actors even see the movie? Second of all two beautiful women in love with an emotionally empty man (and not attractive)? Finally... (spoiler) the detective who works on both murder investigations follows the police dogs lead him to the obvious location of one of the victims, and watches the emotionally empty man burn the body, and doesn't even look for the bones or teeth, and leaves the case unsolved. Ridiculous. And what's the point of the narrative at the detective's daughter's wedding? Was that supposed to be a profound father/daughter speech? Very unsatisfying to see the case unsolved when everything was spoon fed to the police.

Season 1 ok, Season 2 excruciatingly dull
7 December 2022
I loved Mystery Road (2013) and Goldstone was awesome, I think I gave them both a 9. And Aaron Pederson is always great, kind of a blended Denzel Washington/Mark Wahlberg, but he flatlined in this series. Maybe due to the script which gave him limited dialogue. The first season was average or so-so. But the second season was painful to watch. The side stories (the archeologist and Phillip and Zoe) were filler material and completely unnecessary and uninteresting. So why did I finish? Because I knew it would involve long distance rifle shot! I blame all the directors and writers. If they do season three, get that original writer/ director back.

What a bunch of low lives
19 November 2022
The three protagonists are dull and dreary; Harvey Keitel, a zen/boomerang throwing/aging taxi driver, Emmanuelle, an unemployed petty criminal/drunk( and ravishingly beautiful), who for unknown reasons is madly obsessed with Norman, an average looking depressed unemployed underground greyhound racing addict, each one living in shabby apartments. Then comes the love triangle with unsavory intenions; two characters wanting to murder the third character. At this point you flash back to Reservoir Dogs and hope they all shoot each other. I think the blame is with the director for painting such a gloomy portrait with sorry to say, POS characters. Put this in the hands of better talent it might have had a chance. (And gross more than $400,000. How pathetic.)

Two stars, one for each episode I could bare to watch
25 September 2022
Good acting, but the snail's pace is unnecessary and inexcusable. I was bored stiff in the middle of the second episode. A non fiction movie/show/book should give you some informational takeaways but after an hour and a half I only learned that an opossum is the only marsupial in North America. I turned it off and decided to refresh my memory of the events with a quick read on Wikipedia and then I moved on to something more entertaining. BTW I thought the John Wayne Gacy mini series was great, and could have been a guide to make this more educational and interesting. Don't waste ten hours on this one.

I was waiting for something interesting, exciting, or tense
30 July 2022
But nothing happened. Fails as a drama, black comedy, suspense, sci fi, etc. Maybe the "twist" at the end was supposed to be a shocker but was absolutely the dullest moment of any movie I've ever seen.

What's with the lips?
11 June 2022
I couldn't handle more than 20 or 30 minutes of lame script and horrible acting. And why is a Navy Seal wearing lipstick or lip gloss? They should be billed as the star of the movie.

The ending is worth the wait
4 May 2022
I expected more of an action/thriller, but this was a relatively slow-moving drama, to the point where I was losing interest... but the ending was pretty fantastic and fully redeemed the two hour investment. And great acting across the board.

Potentially a very good movie
26 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
With a little refinement this could have been very good. My main beef is the poor explanation for the cover up of his family's accident and why two years later "they" shut down the experiment and killed all those involved.

Cure for insomnia
12 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
After about ten minutes I realized there's only only like able character, and she is dead. Mom's a huckster fake tarot card reader, the loner is a drunk murderer, and the two detectives are obviously clueless and incompetent. I hung in there for an hour hoping that there would be a twist, that they were all dead and the girl was alive, but alas, it was not to be, so I turned it off and cleaned my bathroom bowl. Thankfully it was free.

Only watchable for the actors
4 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Apart from a good cast, there's nothing going for it. Sleazy characters that we're glad to see dead, a snail's pace, a script we've seen before, and no resolution. Where did the dead bodies go, why wasn't this investigated, who is the villian, and why does he murder five people to see a two minute sex video? Basically, ridiculous.

Hand held camera???

Unless you're watching found footage of teenagers getting eaten by zombies or hunting witches, there's no good reason to film a movie from a pogo stick. I gave it ten minutes then switched to a professionally produced movie.

Meaningless and boring
3 March 2022
If you want to see a man struggling with his conscience, you don't need to pay to see Gawain struggling between his desire to please his uncle and his desire to drink hang out with prostitutes. For free you could watch me struggle between my desire to walk out on the movie and staying to finish my popcorn. I don't care what wannabe intellectuals say, this was pure nonsense. Being based on a classic poem has no bearing on the quality of a movie, it was literally the most boring movie I've ever seen. By the way, the costumes and scenery and cinematography were great.

One of those movies you wish they all croak
26 February 2022
Who is the hero? Who is the victim? Who could we possibly have compassion or sympathy for? The one that seemed the most like able and human was a kidnapper and a murderer, which says something about the remaining characters. I watched through to the end only because I realized the lead is the daughter of David Cassidy and the niece of Shawn Cassidy, which intrigued me.

Decent acting, but slow and pointless plot
26 February 2022
Nothing to really like about this movie. It wasn't bad enough to turn off, but after the great opening scene when she reveals her ghost hunter skills, it's all downhill and in the "twist" at the end is incredibly stupid.

Mediocre "lost in wilderness" slasher flick
15 February 2022
Nothing out of the ordinary, maybe a 5 star rating if not for the ongoing random editing and splicing mid-scene. Speaking of which, I literally never thought of film editing before and have been baffled by how they evaluate/give out acadamy awards for film editing, but this could be a base case for the low end of the spectrum.

A True "True" Underdog Story
8 February 2022
Good drama/action/historical movie. I was impressed by the dedication, perseverance, and patience of Montford, and how it pays off in the long run. As opposed to Dodgeball (the underdog reference), this is actually based on a true story, which I didn't know beforehand but confirmed with some google-ing.

Decent thriller
3 February 2022
Neither great nor groundbreaking, yet a good way to pass some time. Good acting, particularly Tomas, the pilot, and I liked how there were some backstories for some of the characters, and some bonding between people who had far different backgrounds. Ignore the 1 star and the 10 star ratings, those have to be plants, and check it out.

Slow paced story if redemption
29 January 2022
I was expecting an action/thriller based on the blurb, but this is a snail-paced story of redemption with some religious overtones. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but definitely not edge of your seat. Great acting particularly considering the no name cast, and overall a good movie.
