Clinton Road (2019)
Just when you thoght it was safe to watch a Horror film
This film is the gift that keeps on giving in terms of bad and poorly thought out plot lines, characters, oh and most importantly inevitably dull horror.
The Banana Splits Movie (2019)
Such a flaming disaster
Everything about this film screams a heaping pile of you know what. Actual money and time were spent making this film which should really scare everyone. and anyone that loves horror.
Under the Silver Lake (2018)
Horrible attempt at a genre best left ignored
Here's what happens when a director/writer that made a really good film in "It Follows" is no longer hemmed in by independent film making limitations. It feels like he was given a green light and all the talent. funding he wanted for "Under The Silver Lake". The only thing he was missing were the boundaries and or push back that might have made this futile venture a much more focused, solid story. It's kind of like the cautionary tale of the second season of "True Detective". The first season was tremendous, the second season - well it sucked. This film wasn't bad, it was horrible, over reaching and so incredibly indulgent it feels like it was made solely for the audience of 1, the director writer because there was definitely no room for an audience in this piece. Garfield and Keogh are way above this material, an incredible slog of alternating story lines leading nowhere. Like watching a street mime but less exciting.
Lifechanger (2018)
Hyped up Pseudo Horror
With all the build up you would expect a whole lot more, but what you get is a whole lot less in this overly hyped less interesting thinking man or woman's version of Jeepers Creepers or a more accessible version of Under The Skin. Wake me up when it's over.
La nuit a dévoré le monde (2018)
A Slow Slow Slow Crawl with No Real Action
If you're into isolationism and un-captivating film making, then this one is for you. Watching this film evokes a deep sense or need to watch paint dry instead. If you can make it through the entire film you'll regret it with the so called pay off.
Anna and the Apocalypse (2017)
What's not to Love about this film.
Who knew you could have so much fun in an Apocalypse? Anna knew, that's who knew and she delivers with a very funny and welcome turn on the genre. This film walks firmly in the footsteps of Shaun of the Dead, a brilliant turn of events and a horror musical, doesn't get much better.
What Keeps You Alive (2018)
Ho Hum
I'm all for High Concept Horror but give me a break, this is a self absorbed exercise in philosophical mumbo jumbo lacking the dynamic tension that could have been if the film got out of it's own way. Overwrought and laconic.
Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich (2018)
It's Puppets
Like the muppets but with blood and gore if you're into that sort of thing.
Bad Samaritan (2018)
Pretty Cool
Not the worst, not the best. This thriller lives in that middle place but does a good job of it.
Mega Time Squad (2018)
A Fun Ride
Caught this one at the Fright Fest Film Festival, a solid concept that has a lot of fun with itself. Overlapping scenarios get a bit deep at moments but the outcome is well worth the trip. The effects are middle of the road but the performances work and add a welcome layer of laughter to the concept. A comedic take on Looper and what happens when too much of a good thing isn't that good for you.
Summer of 84 (2018)
UM STRANGER THINGS
Its not cool telling folks they can't think for themselves and having thought about it, there's no place to go but Stranger Things with this one. 80's, bikes, a group of friends trying to solve a lurking mystery in a small town, um Stranger Things.
Boar (2017)
BORE not BOAR
What rhymes with BOAR - SNORE - IGNORE - WHAT FOR? - - My life was better BEFORE I saw this. I thought I was watching a soap opera with a pig that showed up a total of not enough. Moving with the pace of a snail suffering a major leg injury Boar trudges along aimlessly.
The Ranger (2018)
Punked by a Horror Gimmick
Got sucked into this one with all the over the top hype at the Fright Fest film festival, I guess putting a punk rock sound track into a films sound design means a film is "Unique" and "Something New" in the genre. It wasn't. The premise and plot are well worn - aka Cabin in the Woods - The Hitcher - Stalker. This film doesn't do anything that's already been done really well in the aforementioned films except for it's 80's theme. Throw in some bad, over used teenage angst and it's a thinly veiled episode of Buffy the vampire slayer in a park with a punk rock sound track to boot.
