The Pirates (2014)

Pirates, thieves, and mercenaries...oh my!

This movie has it all... a great cast, lots of action, adventure, kick-ass pirates, a hilarious band of thieves, really nasty villains, comedy, romance, and a story about honor. It mixes true historical events with fantasy.

China has sent a royal seal and the new name for the korean nation, but the ship is wreaked in a storm and the royal seal is swallowed by a whale. Now the thieves, the pirates, and the mercenaries hired by the royal court are in a race to find the royal seal.

I love this movie and didn't want it to end.

Liza the Fox-Fairy (2015)

Fun, quirky dark comedy

Sometimes it's better not to know anything about a film in advance; this was the case for me, for had I read a synopsis of the film I wouldn't have bothered with it.

Liza is a nurse to the widow of a former Japanese ambassador to Hungary. The widow gets her interested in Japanese popular culture. She longs for love but her only companions are the widow and the ghost of a long dead Japanese pop singer. When she begins to seek out love, the jealous ghost turns her into a fox fairy who is cursed in love. Anyone who begins to love her dies. Now she must figure out how to break the curse and find true love.

The style is right light considering all the deaths that take place around her. It's like a dreamy fairy tale. I loved the music and the scenes of Liza dancing with her beloved ghost.

Luck-Key (2016)

Enjoyable romantic action film

Luck-key is a remake of the 2012 Japanese film "Key of Life" which is also a good movie to see. I think remakes should bring something new to the story; it should be able to stand alone. This one does.

It's a simple story of an assassin who falls and loses his memory. A poor, unemployed actor swaps identity with him not knowing that he is a criminal. They begin to live out each other's lives.

I love how the lead blossoms in his new life as an actor and the romance that he finds. Yoo Hae-Jin is a fantastic actor and his quiet charm really comes through in this film.

There's action, romance, comedy, and a few really touching moments. What more could you ask for?
