I just watched All of Us Strangers and needed to review it. That this is an outstanding movie in a year full of masterpieces is by itself an accomplishment. But there's so much more to that.
Andrew Haigh created a beautiful work of art from a love story that anyone can relate to. It's about love in many forms. And loss. Love for our parents, love for our lovers, and the loneliness of being unique and different. And how we cope when love is gone.
This movie will hit differently to each viewer. But you'll surely cry at some point. It's so beautifully woven and powerful. The metaphor of the solitary building with only two neighbors shows that we live alone until we connect with someone else. We are all strangers. But love is that powerful force that can conquer time and space and connect us. It reminded me of Interstellar, by Christopher Nolan, also a movie about love and time travel.
The work and talent of Andrew Scott, Paul Mescal, Claire Foy, and Jamie Bell by itself deserves a watch. The way they convince us that they're Adam's parents and the sweetness of Harry's love make this movie incredibly beautiful.
As Louise Gluck said, "We look at the world once, in childhood. The rest is memory." This quote so perfectly applies to the movie. The actors and the director deserved all the awards. It's a touching and emotional masterpiece.
I highly recommend All of Us Strangers. Worthy watching. Bring your tissues...
