Before Dawn (2013)
Most annoying zombies ever!
Okay, to start, it's not a terrible movie, it definitely has it's faults, but as a drama, it's not bad. It has some weak horror elements but I wouldn't classify it as such. It has some similarity to 28 Weeks Later in that the main protagonist is not exactly sympathetic, but
the acting is decent, and the plot simple.
Some of the camera work borders on nauseating (too jumpy) and the 'zombies' were annoyingly over the top, I also agree with one reviewer about some of the music being too much.
A decent try that could use better direction, less annoyingly loud zombies, and a bigger budget. Worth a watch if you like low key, low budget British thrillers.
Devil in the Dark (2017)
More thriller than horror
A Canadian indie slow burn. Well acted, with some nice visuals, but confusing, especially the ending. It held my interest but I needed more back story.
It had some nice creepy atmosphere, and brotherly drama but should have been longer with maybe a little 'legend of' the area so that the creature was explained somewhat.
All in all, it is worth a watch and doesn't deserve the hate and low ratings that some people have given it. I think it could have used a lot more horror and some gore, but you do what you can with what budget you have.
I enjoyed it for what it's worth, and think it deserves a remake with a bigger budget.
Contorted (2022)
Nice visuals
The visuals were good. The acting was good. It has some nice creepiness to it. The story, or lack of a cohesive one, spoils the whole thing.
This movie leaves too many questions unanswered.
Why did the mother throw her daughter from the window? If she was mentally ill why was she permitted to remain with her family after such an act?
What did the father plagiarize that was so bad his editor committed suicide?
What entity was haunting the house and why?
What was the mask, where did it come from?
Why take out insurance policies on your family if you're just going to commit murder/suicide?
Why introduce a character that offers to help (the dude at the funeral parlour with the business card) if you're not going to use him?
What was the importance that the child victims were all adopted?
The entire movie felt like important background ended up on the cutting room floor.
Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey (2023)
If I could give it a 0 I would.
Terrible, terrible movie. Not even one that's so bad it's good, or even funny, it's just bad. Great premise, bad execution, bad acting, lousy make-up effects, bad editing, bad directing, bad acting , I added that twice] so don't waste your time, it truly isn't worth it.
I thought it was a great idea, something along the lines of Willy's Wonderland or the Banana Splits movie, but it had such poor production value, not a drop of humour, and terrible, terrible acting that it just falls flat. The trailer is a better movie than the movie itself!
I've seen terrible movies that were so bad they were good, but this one does not qualify in that category at all.
The Rental (2020)
It only gets a 2 because I like Dan Stevens.
*Spoilers*
Two couples go on a weekend retreat at an AirBNB, immediately get confrontational with the handyman, sneak a dog in (no animals allowed) and proceed to get drunk and do Molly. The entire house is decked out with hidden cameras, one of which is discovered only after two of the people cheat on their SOs. Paranoia ensues. The handyman is blamed, violence ensues, everything goes south, everybody dies. No explanation to who and why, you never see the killer's face, and it ends with him moving on to another AirBnB. The only character I actually liked and felt sorry for was the handyman, the only true innocent victim, the rest of them were unsympathetic.
Kill or Be Killed (2015)
Neither horror nor thriller
A mediocre western with some gore and a 'mystery' that is never explained. The acting was fine, the pacing was good but the editing was choppy. In no way would I classify this movie as a horror other than it had a horrible ending, it was okay up until the last 20-minutes, don't waste your time.
No Tell Motel (2013)
Not Great, Not Horrible
C-Grade horror, mind in neutral and don't expect a complicated plot. It's an okay watch if you have nothing else to do.
Blood Moon (2014)
Not bad at all
To start I love the cast, I've seen all of them in various TV shows and movies and I commend them on hiding their accents (most were English)
The atmosphere was good, the dialog well done and the acting pretty good. A well made B-grade horror set in the old west, I'd watch it again.
Solar Impact (2019)
It's okay
Not bad, not great, just your standard b-movie zombie fare. I've seen better and I have definitely seen worse, this is an okay watch if you're bored.
